I was a huge pvz fan, bought it on Mac, iPhone and iPad, played it over and over. less so in recent years but the minigames were fun.

Played this for half an hour last night and I'm sad to say that familiarity washed over me throughout, followed by boredom. Just felt like playing an expansion pack. At least it was free - I'd happily pay £12 for a brand new exciting experience from Popcap but can't see me dropping £12 on this for the plants when it launches in the UK, or grinding through it to unlock anything; the added new stuff can't distract from the fact I've pretty much played PvZ to death now.

As for the whole 'time travel' bit, so far all I've seen are the same zombies reskinned and slightly re-animated (no pun intended!) and a couple of new ones. From what I'm reading I'm sure it gets a bit deeper later (although it sounds troubling ly like all you do is grind for more stars or coins or keys or something) but like I say, being excited for and then finally playing this made me realise im probably over PvZ now.

If only popcap had put their time and resources into something new :(

Isn't the total price in your local currency pretty similar to what PVZ cost at first launch on original platforms?

Frankly, I'm fine with that for a good game that doesnt also have any expendable IAPs (oops, first strike against PVZ2!) but I won't pay it for this because i found it *considerably* less fun, exciting, interesting, engaging... Any of the things I felt when I first played PVZ several years ago.

But that's what happens with sequels. I'm sure Massive Fans of PvZ, or newcomers, will love it and if so they should be fine with paying for it.

Everyone's already told you this is not on, but I just wanted to tell you that a good way for non-NZ folk to get it is to just create a free NZ iTunes account and then download the official app.

It's easy, you don't need a credit card, you just need a fake NZ address (I used the NZ Post Office address).

No faffing with illegal duplications of the IPA, no faffing with iFunbox. Why anyone would do that instead of just getting the real thing for free and legally, I don't really know.

    No

I only needed 25 stars to pass Egypt and to use the star gate to pirate seas.

Odd... mine needed 20 stars.....?? You sure you're not talking about the Pirate area? Are there even 40 stars in the Egypt area?

No, there's definitely something odd going on with the star requirement for the gate in Egypt (didn't notice any issues in the other two worlds). When I first reached that one it told me I needed 30 stars to open it, but after I earned the 30 stars I went back to the gate and it had changed to state that I only needed 15 of those in order to open it.

I don't get it either, there are 40 stars to earn in Egypt and I need 35 to leave.
I checked for an update in the AppStore, nothing.
Killed it in multitasking, restarted.... Still need 35 stars

If anyone has an advice, I'm open for suggestions

Ummm..I only needed 5 stars to leave. Right when I finished the last level I could leave. I went back and 3 stared the first 2 levels then went to pirate island. This is messed up!

When you beat stage 11, it opens up the other stars and the pyramid of doom.

Sounds like they may be testing different star values to see what the difference is in gameplay (do people with higher star requirements quit earlier, etc).

This is just speculation by me. FYI - I need 30 to leave Egypt.

You have a point here. I think what they are really testing is the rate at which the Keys are dropped, because the keys hold more of the stars, and are more inaccessible compared to the ones in the no-key path.

    Lucky you. :D

To be honest i want more stars to leave egypt. It means more challenge missions, and that adds replay value for me.

I was reading the thread about the variable stars leaving Egypt and I could have sworn it was only 10 stars. I have completed that level except for all the bonus 3 star levels and a few of the ones for keys. I was going to stick around to finish those before I moved on given that 10 stars seemed a pittance to get to the next world. I was worried about all this talk of 30 20 35 stars so I went back and sure enough I only needed 10 stars!

I unlocked it in case they can change it via the server, played the first pirate level so I know that world is open to me and returned to polish off Egypt before moving on.

The game has been very good to me so far. I am finding keys and earning stars so I can progress just fine. Sure there is unlock for the next levels and worlds but if you actually PLAY the game instead of PAY it you can unlock it all. So far the only thing for real money that is not unlock able are some plants - and that is a tangible, not consumable so when the time comes I will certainly pay for my favorite.

Great game - definitely happy with the download and so far the model is not an in your face IAP model but a well thought out one so the developers can actually earn some money for their work.

Some one in this thread said it - there is no such thing as a free lunch. Well there is, it is just you will eat the crusts instead of the full sandwich. Same with this - pay or play - your choice, just don't expect the full experience for free.

Well, the only content you're missing out on in this game by not paying is a mere six plants out of the full roster of 32, which makes the ill-informed front-page tantrum on a certain other strategy-focused iOS gaming site look all the more embarrassing.

Yeah that's what I mean - those that are complaining have yet to even hit the download button. I really hope that all their misconceptions don't spread.

Pay what you want for this game based on the plants you can purchase - all, some, none. It is a beautiful IAP model if you ask me.

Exactly... And even if you want to buy all those plants, we are looking at an $18 total to get all those plants unlocked, which is, TO ME, is a good price point for a game this quality as a premium game.

Since this is a soft launch, we might see some changes implemented, and i was hoping a Bundle for plants. For $15 or less, i'd buy em all in a heartbeat, now that my concern about any paywall has dissipated.
