yeah been my point the whole time too ! actually install and play it - then complain in an informed way. The amount of crap, and moaning in this thread has been unbelievable,....from the people without the game. ...and yes it may change by the time its released world wide, so even better, wait til then and then form an opinion Would also buy a plant bundle, but would prefer $9.99
For the harder waves, what can you do without in app purchase plants? In the original PvZ, you would either use freeze with your strategy, or fire. Since these plants are locked away what do you do? Are there plants like machine pea, cobcannon, gloom shroom, and freeze melon that you get for free that upgrade a lower level plant or is that accomplished solely through the power up thingies? What EXACTLY is there to do other than the main adventure mode?
So I reinstalled the app, created a new ingame profile, played all the way through Egypt .....and still need 35 stars to get to the next set of levels. Btw, the Popcap FAQ says that the game uses iCloud to sync progress. Well not working for me and is nowhere to be found in settings
Are we also making the assumption these must be paid for? Look chances are we must pay for it but that EA/Popcap guy did insist everything is unlock able. PS 34 stars in Egypt. I still need 40
In the TA video, how come some levels have a star whereas others do not? Is this random? Is this preset?
Across the entire Ancient Egypt map, there are side tasks for extra plants and there's 11 'main' stages. Once you beat stage 11, stages 1-10 become 3 star stages.
I'm going to wait for US launch, let them do whatever balancing they need to do. But, does anyone feel like this is at all grindy? That's my only concern. TA Plays video made it look like the game is balanced to strongly encourage powerups, etc, but I guess that won't be an issue if you earn enough coins during gameplay.
It's not grindy. I NEVER had to repeat a stage, other than to meet objectives to obtain stars. I really like the the challenges/objectives to gain stars as they change how you must play the game, and is a good mechanic to up replayability.
Cool, thanks. Sounds pretty fun. I am going to be wary of the f2p mechanics, but I'm looking forward to giving this a shot. Regarding those plants that people say you must buy with real money...seems possible (to me) that you could unlock them in the future map. From the front page: Murray says "Our philosophy is to not be heavy-handed and very soft in our approach. Anyone with enough time and skill can unlock all content." Anyone with enough time...implies to me that maybe we'll have to wait for an update down the line to unlock those other plants.
You can do a lot: this game gives you the tools to set up a great many more varied defenses than the original, and you don't need any of the IAP plants to be successful. I'd subtly suggest to people that they also not underestimate the value of the new Bonk Choy, which is a powerful melee fighter. It's not an assumption. I've completed all of the current content of the game, barring the last couple of stars, and at the moment there is no in-game way to earn the IAP plants. It's only "grindy" inasmuch as the basic gameplay is the same in most levels (there are a number of minigame-type levels as well), but you don't need to replay the exact same stage over and over in order to progress, no. To earn the three stars for each level you technically need to play the same level three times, but the victory conditions and placement restrictions are different and become more challenging for each star on that level, meaning that the level layout and your choices will be different too. If you were watching somebody playing the game and came away thinking that the game was designed such that they were likely to need to buy the non-plantfood powerups, then you were watching somebody who wasn't very good at the game. On the other hand, the plantfood is very useful, but that drops frequently enough from zombies that you shouldn't ever actually feel like you need to buy it with the in-game currency, not unless you've screwed up spectacularly somewhere during the level.
I get a crash when trying to open this on my ipad after playing on my iphone. Anyone know how the cloud save feature is used?
hmm egypt stargate unlocked for 5 for me.. as for power ups, never used the touch based ones, only the seeds with money earned by playing. still don't understand why this is free in the first place. EA should make the 6 plants buy able with coins and make the game 4,99 and still be able to spend coins on the consumeables
Has anyone gone far enough in the game to see if any of the PLANTS are unlockable just by playing/grinding without buying the IAP?
Thanks, my friend. That is too bad. Not fan of IAP utilized this way. Ok with IAP to purchase goods faster but still can be earned by grind. This way, Popcap is BLOCKING the game to be played in a certain way unless you pay. Boo! I had preferred to pay $2.99-$4.99 for the whole game instead. Piecemeal IAP is a money grab when implemented this way. Feels like another Kingdom Rush Frontier.
Man that stars requirement is really weird. There must be some reason why it's different for each person. Perhaps the things we did in the game or how much we played?
