Thanks everyone for the positive feedback so far, much appreciated! Good catch, thanks! I'll clarify that. I always considered (all the way back to MoM) the Floating Island more of a boat; because that's what you use it for, naval unit transport.
Thank you Nullzone. I have been out of town trolling these posts debating on downloading. Seeing all the great feedback, and now such wonderful support for a new player as myself, I'm all in. Thanks to all that have added to this thread, and especially Nullzone for taking time to write his guide. Says a lot about the TA community.
Request - limit Unhallowed Mentor Hero availability to Undead only @doomtrader, got another request for you: When you play Unhallowed, and select the "Mentor" Perk, Planar randomly picks a Hero from the whole collection. It would be more fitting if at least the "Mentor" Perk were limited to Undead Heroes only. Maybe even the "Summon Hero" spell, but I am on the fence about that one. When you expand to other Planes, you could want a non-Undead Hero after all. Thematically it makes more sense if your starting Hero is an Undead. Why would a treehugger Elf Life Druid join Team Undeath? And game mechanics support that as well, unless I am missing something: It seems that living Heroes/Units do not heal on the Death Plane (which makes sense). To get them healed, I needed to resort to shenanigans like liberating a Plane Gate, and sending them through to a non-Death Plane where they healed.
Has anyone experience with casting Healing Familiar? I cast it on a hero (and can see "Healing Familiar: target gains heal" in the hero's 'Spells list') but unfortunately I can't seem to get it to work. In the Army popup on the world map the hero appears with an upward green arrow next to it but I can't seem to activate it (yes, my hero needs healing). On the Battle Map I can see the 'Heal spell' under the hero's abilities but can't cast it. I must say that I am totally enjoying myself with this game I can't help but feel there are still quite a few bugs to be sorted out. Let's hope this doesn't turn off the early iOS press and result in off-putting reviews for this is a GREAT GREAT game.
Is there a work around for the Druid bug in the tutorial to be able to complete it? Great work on the guide Null
@doomtrader: would you consider providing us with an email address where we can send bug reports? (Personally I don't like in-app links for such reports as I try to keep the address I use for my iOS devices limited to a handful friends/family.)
The druid tutorial bug (as reported several times upthread) has been fixed and sent to Apple for review.
Your Hero gets the combat Heal spell, which can't be cast on the overland map. Check next time when you are in a battle: it should show in the Hero's spell list, castable if the Hero has enough Mana.
Aha my mistake then. Thanks! In battle my hero had 0 mana which is probably why the casting froze and threw up errors (touch display didn't respond properly, the only way to escape was to use the switch unit button). So how do I provide my hero with mana?
The first part sounds like a bug. If you can reproduce it, throw it at doomtrader Giving a non-caster Hero Mana can be done via crafting Items with +Mana on it. But those are pretty expensive to create, a few hundred Mana minimum. I don't think it's worth it to force-upgrade a non-caster like this. If you have the spare Mana to create e.g. a +Mana Amulet, you'll be much better off by giving it to a spellcasting Hero. If you don't have one of those, well ... use the Mana for something else
This kind of feedback needs to be taken seriously by Dev. It's bad if a player starts asking how to restore a mana.. All these little things need to be explained well in the tutorial
I'm not sure this level of detail can be explained in a tutorial. But I agree that it should be available in a manual of some sort. This is a very complex game with many intricate subsystems. I'm reminded a lot of FFT. My favourite guide for that is Fraundorf's FFT FAQ which weighs in at 571 pages when printed using 9pt. Courier. I like such details.
@Rinoa: Patience doomtrader already wrote that they plan to have the game manual available next week. Sure, would have been nice to have it right at launch. But the fact that they'll provide one at all is already quite something. Game devs just don't do those anymore, sadly. But fully agree, a short note that Hero Mana refreshes needs to be in the tutorial. @funambulist: Oh, I forgot scenario 2; thanks for reminder, Rinoa. If it's a spellcasting Hero, they refresh their Mana pool either every turn or every combat, and for free (i.e. doesn't drain from your reserves). I didn't do 2 combats in one turn with the same units yet, so I am not sure which one it is.
I'm aware, I may have not been specific enough. If there is a way to get around the bug to complete the tutorial without exiting out of tutorial. I just was making sure I didn't miss a backdoor way around it.
Nein. It wasn't a spellcasting Hero (it was Kathentira Dire who doesn't have casting ability). So methinks I wasted a spell. No harm done. Lots to learn here.
