Myrodant lesson learned I feel so dumb now, didn't read my own guide Since I'm still struggling in my current Bugs game, I went back to the start and tried the "Big Bugs" strategy. Wanted to see how fast I can get one of the Beetles out: Works, 4 Bombardier Beetles by turn 15. Much better than using all those chaff units first, I dare say. All you need is a Stable & Fantastic Stable, then in an average Capital you can crank out a Bombbug every 2 turns. Having a spell to increase food production is highly recommended. I know what I'll be doing next Bugs game... hhmm, I'll do it with the same one, then I can compare directly. Also, I had to get creative a bit, using spells I normally don't touch: - Bug Seers + Fire Weakness makes for some nice heavy hitting glass cannons: while they can really lay down the hurt, they die when you so much as look at them sharply - very similar to Grey Elf Archers. UPDATE: that might be a good alternative to the big Beetles, need to test that. Usage would be like the Elf Archers, I think. - Jumping Hero defense: My measly 3 towns are close enough together that, even without roads, Klickwyk can move to one town and attack in the same turn. Before the last enemy dies, I cast Recall Hero to teleport him back to the Capital. - Parttime road building: After each enemy wave, move your 2+ Engineers out to build one piece of road, then back to safety as soon as you spot the next enemy. Slower than using escorts for them, but needs less units and I lose less Engineers. And I needed a bit of a break from that hardcore Bugs game, so I started an Orc Augment Mastery one for fun: Oh boy, does it feel GOOD to have a powerful starting army again. Augment works extremely well: Throw Heroism on the starting Skald and Wolfguard, for instant mini-monster army just add water I won't post a detailed play report for that game, since it's a pretty much standard Orc game - nothing to write home about. If anything really interesting comes up, I'll post it though.
What to do, what to do? Alrighty, I'll dive in later today and see if it messes up my savefiles UPDATE: The 400+MB downloaded really fast Looks like my Saves are still ok. I tried all important ones, and they all loaded. Didn't have time to check in detail yet, if e.g. any units or towns disappeared. Expect some detailed feedback over the next days and weeks. Two I can give right away: - Alchemy at 3 points makes it pretty much useless, just too expensive. Except for very short games, where having more Mana/Gold as needed can really ruin your opponents' day. - Summoner now gives 20% Discount on casting costs: Seriously? I played quite a few games with Summoner Circles, and that School was powerful enough already. Later on it won't matter much, since you should be swimming in Mana then. But for early- and mid-game this will boost Summoning even more. Need to crunch some numbers, e.g. how many more Harpies I can now throw out by Turn 25 or so I still stick with what I said earlier, that you should revert all balance changes and start them from scratch. @Wastelands: Also, I noted that the tooltip says "reduces the cost of all summon spells by 20%". That's ambiguous - not clear if this applies to casting costs, upkeep, or both. You should improve the wording in the next update, e.g. to "reduces the casting and upkeep cost of all summon spells by 20%".
I agree with your point on alchemy, it felt a bit too good before tbh, but this change makes it very very bad, especially early game lol. Balance changes arent bad tbh, a lot of games get them, i dont think they were necessary but they wont impact my enjoyment with the game. The only balance change ive felt necessary so far was the one done for the skeletons on one of the early patches, they were way too easily abusable.
Fully agree on the Skeleton nerf. But it was fun to abuse the hell out of them costing nothing To be more precise then: I think all balance changes past iOS version 1.2.5 should be revoked and re-examined asap. Ok, since I didn't do one of those in a while: Summoner game will be next on the list. If you want to see a specific race with it, I'm open to suggestions.
Unhallowed w/ Summon I did a good while ago, found it quite boring actually not to mention that Death suits them so much better. Looks like I'll go for Dracs then. Pumping an already powerful race with Summons should be quite interesting indeed. Most likely I'll finish my Bugs game first, so I'll wait a bit for more suggestions.
Add a Leaderboard button? @Wastelands: Since iOS10 removed the Gamecenter app, now you can only see the PQ Leaderboard when you complete a game. Can you add a Leaderboard button to the main menu? Oh, and: Holymoly, how the heck do you get 55.000 score? I wonder if that's even legit, since the next one down only has 15.000 or so. But 15k I can see ways to get there. 55k ... not so much. For comparison: Since I don't have that much gametime, I usually only play 2 Planes with low number of dungeons. My highest recorded score so far is 7.700.
Item rewards from dungeons are still hilariously broken, should go on top of the fixlist for the next updates: Started the Drac Summon game for fun, got a 1200 Mana Robe on turn 5 from a pretty easy dungeon. Feuer frei, Summon away! I still don't like Gargoyles too much, but with their higher HP and Elemental & Mundane Resistance, early on they are great for putting Healer Familiar on. Just keep in mind that they are Constructs, and can't be healed themselves. And they are slow compared to the rest of my standard early summons, with only 6 move against the Harpies'/Sprites' 10.
[Play Report] Draconian Summon Mastery Turn 30 Drac Summoner, what I can say... I do NOT want to face that in Multiplayer. Quite the monster. It's turn 30, I took 4 enemy towns already, and march on the first enemy Capital. I have a bunch of Summons and a Summoning Circle in storage, just in case I need some town defense and/or garrison anywhere suddenly. Oh, and I built my first 3 Doomdrakes already And I played far from optimal, since I wanted to experiment: E.g. if I'd gone for more town conquering, I'd have 10 by now at least, not 5. With less playing around with the Summons, and being more business-like about it, I'd have 2 full stacks of Harpies, Gargoyles, Sprites, and not only one. Game setup was the usual: Archmage difficulty. 2 Planes (Prime & Paradise) this time with 2 Continents and not my usual one. Largest map size. Fast Movement, Gamespeed x4, Features & Resources on Low, Neutrals on Medium. Picks are: Summoning 9, Summoning Mastery, Summoner. Archmage (I just love the Spellcraft bonus). Butcher, Tyrant. Summary: Brutal if played for serious murder mayhem. Can steamroll you with two-three fullstacks of okay Summons (Harpies, Gargoyles, Sprites) AND a fullstack of Doomdrakes on turn 50 or so. Better hope for a large map, so you have time to build up before the hammer hits. Clock just struck midnight, calling it a day. Expect more fun news from the frontlines tomorrow
I kind of expected it to be very good already to be honest, since draconians tend to take time before pulling out good troops, the summon make a very nice plan-B in the meantime, haha
@Doomtrader PLEASE! Never force an intro vid and tutorial on the player. I'm even okay if that's default behavior, but please give us an easy way to skip them.
True that Dracs need time to build up in a new town, due to their slow popgrowth. But in your Capital? I wouldn't call Doomdrakes in under 20 turns slow If you need something earlier, you can build Galeriders in ~5 turns. I wouldn't waste resources on adding Trackers/Hunters to my main army. Fresh meat for the grinder We have a most honored and esteemed new guest, I mean. Yes, that's it Welcome, Nina! What devices and iOS are you two on? Just checked on my Air1 with iOS 10.1.1, and all seems ok zoom-wise. But yes, it would be good if we could zoom out a bit further. Did you do a fresh install? I think the first time you start the game, you cannot skip the tutorial right away. But been quite a while, so I am not sure on that. I updated my existing installation: Intro movie comes up, tap to skip works. And the tutorial only starts when I select it from the menu.
[BUG] First unit in army doesn't represent army on map With 1.3.1f, the first unit in an army is no longer used to show/represent the army on the worldmap. Instead, it seems to be partly random, and partly depending on unit type. E.g. I had one army where the Sprites always were shown on the map. At some point it switched from the Sprites to the Harpies, but I could not figure out yet what triggers the change. At least for me that's important, I usually use the "army icon" to identify them. E.g. a Doomdrake army gets a Doomdrake as first unit to represent it on the worldmap. And sometimes I just want to see a specific unit because I like the way they look. This did work correctly before the update.
So is this game worth the price of admission? I enjoy Age of Wonders 3 on PC and this looks similar to that, eh?
I never played Age of Wonders, so I cannot comment on that. PQ is definitely worth it. Else I wouldn't spend that much time playing and writing about it You can always start with the base game to see if you like it, and get the full content pack later. If you ever played the good old Master of Magic, this is exactly it - only a modern remake with some nice improvements.
If you know a bit about PC gaming see it like this : Its like Civilization II and Heroes of Might and Magic IV had a baby, with a few added mutations during pregnancy. Edit : Yeah most definitely worth it, theres absolutely nothing close to this on the app store, it is a full PC 4x experience, not a dumbed down thing like those awful Civ games on iOS.
