I am intrigued but I am not the hugest strategy game fan so I'm on the fence. Did the price go up a bit since release? Would anyone suggest this to a person new to this kind of game or is it more for seasoned players? And IAP on top of a 13 dollar price tag? What are they?
@repulsa: IAPs give more races, hero units and Planes (think maps). The whole pack was 20€. Base price didn't go up. I am honestly not sure if I can recommend it unconditionally to a newcomer to the genre, and "not the hugest strategy fan" on top of that. Yes, it's perfectly playable and fun for a newcomer, too. But the immense complexity and amount of options can be overwhelming. And might very well be out of easy reach for a new player: quite some of the in-depth stuff requires more than basic understanding of the genre. On the plus side, it's Fantasy, which is really rare if not unique. Graphics and environments are very good, and add a lot of atmosphere. UPDATE: I think you can compare it to The Quest: perfectly play- and enjoyable without really digging into the gritty details. But there is always this extra layer of complexity lurking under the surface, ready to draw you in. If you are willing to take the deep dive into the Strategy genre, I dare say this is by far the best choice you can make on iOS.
I think just based on this ^^^^^^^^^^ I'm probably going to jump in.....I only have an iPad, so room on the already limited drive makes buying bigger games a risk (especially since I don't have a backup on a laptop or computer if the game disappears from the App Store). Hmmm...decision decision....
With regard to the IAPs - I'm wondering if it is worth getting the "Starter Pack" or if the "Landscape of Caldrean" pack will provide the best gaming experience. Is the former worth the extra money or are the additional special units and veterans potentially game-spoilers?
Hey guys was wondering if anyone else was having problems with the tutorial when i get to the battle and select the druid his magic screen doesnt appear but the tutorial tells me to select his magic which i cant do so i just get stuck there anyone else have this problem?
You need to be more than 3 squares away from another city. -if your not, then the 'build city' icon is greyed out. You might be able to build closer, if you got a unit with you - dunno...
Quest you can play perfectly fine without ever dabbling into any of the more advanced mechanics like Alchemy. Or, you can get into it as deep as you want, using synergies between alchemical potions to boost your Intelligence, get a higher enchanting skill, and make better enchanted items that fit well with your playstyle. Same for spells: go around with a standard set; or put thought into which ones complement your Rasvim melee fighter best. Planar is very much like that when it comes to mechanics. If you don't play on a high difficulty level, you never need to bother which spells and schools work best with low-population high-magic Darkelves, or fast-growing Insects. Do you focus on combat spells, city enchantments, or boosting your units? Same as with Quest, the deep mechanics are there if you want to dive into them. But they are entirely optional.
Strategy Guide - first part is up Just put up the first part of my little guide. You can find it here: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?p=3786745 As I wrote there in the introduction: Please do not post regular comments in this thread, I'd prefer if it stays clean and easily readable, with content limited to only guides. If you have questions, problems, etc. , please post them here in the main thread. In case you want to write a guide piece of your own, feel free to post it to the guide thread. However, I’d appreciate if I can take a look at it first.
Nice work @Nullzone. I'm already starting a new game in order to follow along and learn. (Note to others: the save and load boxes allow a player to have multiple games going at the same time.)
@Nullzone: some small clarifications requested concerning the first part of your strategy guide. You write: Our focus on Summoning gives us a lot of spells right off the bat. We get all 6 of Tier 1, 4 in Tier 2, and 1 in Tier 3. Setting up WITHOUT the optional negative discipline 'Tyrant' I can pick 8 Tier I spells, 4 Tier II and 1 Tier III. So what do you suggest for the additional 2 Tier I spells from your other suggested Magic Circles (Augmentation and Mentalism)? You write: On Tier 2, we just take all 4 available Summons. In fact under Summoning we are offered 6 spells. While Wall of Force is not exactly a 'summons', Floating Island is. I assume however you mean Raise Zombies, Harpies, Owl Bears and Gargoyles though huh? Thanks!
Oh damn... I'm not very sharp this morning. I see that you specified which spells earlier in your set up guide... 4) Augmentation 1: 1 point. To get the Fertile Soil spell for more food production. 5) Mentalism 1: 1 point. For the Tranquility spell, which reduces Unrest in a city by 20%.
Thanks Nullzone, following your guide with game called, wait for it.......Nullzones! Will continue to experiment with my old setup until more episodes from yourself are published. You are doing a great service, much appreciated.
