Thanks for the help a few days ago. Regarding the Spell of Domination. Is there something resembling a tech tree to find this thing? I have slapped down a Sorcerer Lord, and think I may be nearing an endgame. Thanks, CJ
Thanks! Well I've dabbled in a bunch of games, mainly easiest difficulties. Then I ran the first build in the strategy thread - playing grey elves and the summoner build. My problem seems to be that I spend so much time trying to get my city(ies) to produce much of anything that I can't also seem to build any armies that survive long. Also been trying to get at least one really strong hero in a given game, but they seem to die quickly, and all those resources are gone. My general pattern with 4x games is usually fairly conservative, with a lot of build-up and intelligent skill/research choices to gain the upper hand mid/late game. I'm not great at a blitz military strategy. But maybe that's what's required in this game. Would really love some good long games to get a better feel for the dynamics. I appreciate any advice.
Superhero build all the way. I never lost a single game with it. Nullzone has great suggestions on how to build one but I could happily provide my insight as well. Inbox me if you want more details.
I am also fairly conservative too and then a blitz late in the game and raze all their cities. It does take a bit for me to get well established and set for my blitz. It might take a little more learning and an easier enemy. I hate fighting Draconians.
@tjb: That'll take a while to answer. Will see how far I get before I run in the red (still recovering here). First, Heroes: The Superhero strategy Lickzy mentioned works pretty well, but also is rather boring as it doesn't leave you much wiggle room to do something else than pumping your Hero. Summoning and Heroes don't go well together. You'll need all your Mana and Casting time to summon creatures. Normally, this leaves no room to properly kit out a Hero. With Summon Mastery, I usually rely on cheap units till at least mid-game (turn 50 and later), like Owlbears and Harpies. Remaining Mana goes into combat summons, like Slimes and Phantom Warriors. Endgame, I used expensive - and thus powerful - Summons like Djinns and Archangels as Hero equivalents. Giving Heroes a ranged weapon if they don't have one also increases their lifetime expectancy. Much safer to stay out of melee before you are geared up for it. Towns: Early game (till at least turn 25), it's easier to not focus on improving the town itself, but keep on producing good - and cheap - basic units. With the Elves, an army of 6 Archers, 2 Druids, and at least 3 Owlbears can be ready around turn 15. And your starting units are good enough to take out a few low-level targets in the meantime. Next episode: "I hate fighting Draconians"
I honestly have no idea where that comment comes from... In a longer game I usually recruit ( or summon) new heroes and turn them into super heroes. Often, I will leave a single super hero at whichever city (or cities) I own and send my armies out to destroy enemy cities, enemy armies or just cause general destruction. I find Tons of "wiggle room" to do things other than "pumping my hero". Perhaps I'm just playing mine wrong?
@Lickzy: Ah, I see, should have been more specific. I refer to casting spells here. At least in my two Superhero games, I was constantly - almost till victory - busy casting Enchantments on my Heroes. I even had to deliberately take a break from it when I wanted a town or global enchantment.
@Nullzone: what is a good tactic with Orcs? The lack of ranged units (until I get their magic units) makes early game a bit deadly. Try to get magic units fast or just keep pumping units for overwhelming my enemies?
It's just frustrating that my heroes often die their first battle, despite having an entourage and casting spells myself. Am I really that bad at the game? Ps is there a more appropriate forum I should be whining on?
I personally reached the point where im waiting for the fix to the "spell boosting" problem to happen. Kind of a bummer to have to reset my game everytime i boost a spell to not feel like im cheating... lol Any ETA on the update ?
At least for me, swarming worked extremely well with the Orcs, here's my play report for the first 25 turns of my first testgame: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?p=3794092#post3794092 My rule of thumb: 1 Skald for 3 Raiders, makes a good mix. If you don't mind losing a unit or two, for early game you can even skip the Skalds. Heroes are pretty squishy early on, especially the casters. Maybe you are trying to tackle stuff that's a bit much for you yet? A good indicator is: If you win the battle with zero losses, all is well one loss is still fine (stuff happens). If you lose more, you bit off more than you can chew. Exception to the last one are high-tier fights - e.g. vs. Demons or Djinns - where they can kill a unit or two in one turn. However, if you stick to fighting on your level, you shouldn't have much of a problem and your Heroes should stay alive. Could you give an example of a battle where your Hero got killed in his first fight? Oh, and there's Wastelands own forum as well: http://forum.wastelands-interactive.com . But this one here seems to get more traffic, so chances for help are higher on TA, I'd say.
Our 'friends' at Explorminate did a podcast on mobile gaming and mention PQ again: https://explorminate.net/2016/05/06/the-xx-show-4-the-mobile-gaming-show/
Lickzy, I played around with a few Summoner/Dark Elves games to play around with sprites, and found an interesting quirk. I cast a Sprite right away, and it took me a few turns to be able to do so, then set the Sprite to auto-scout. She just sat there. After a turn or two, she would then take off. Early game it happened again, as if she was taking a turn off, then started going again. Through several games I was able to recreate it and have a guess about what is going on. It seems that when I was researching or casting, and I was in the negative on mana, the Sprite would not auto-scout. Once I had built up some mana in storage, this was no longer an issue, the Sprite would auto-scout every turn. Just a hunch, but it satisfied my curiosity. So it's possible it is an as-of-yet undocumented quirk with Sprites (and possibly other creatures). @nullzone, do you have any insight? Did MoM have anything like this?
Bug Reports I sauntered over to @dev forum today, and they are getting traction on chasing down late game bugs. Also, they are categorizing each bug as RESOLVED when they fix it. Getting excited for the next release! (@dev, which will be soon?) I'd encourage everyone to continue to post bug reports at their forum, and send a Save Game at the same time you post to help them fix more quickly, especially in late game/advanced game situations. yes, this is still on our part to close all those bugs, and I'm really hoping to have the patch ready before 13th May.
Like they did when they released this game that was full of bugs? Agreed. They should not have rushed the release of this game. More like a beta than a finished product.
Can't find the answer; sorry if it's been asked before: Why is the rotate backwards in battles? Really annoying.
