    AoE Spell List?

I played a game just a minute ago, and I had a caster hero with Ice Storm. 5x5 cold damage. I loved it. I could decimate, and even destroy whole ranks of enemy archers with my opening salvo. Has anyone compiled a list of useful tactical spells like this? I'm currently try to find a balanced build that will give me a useful AoE spell from the get-go.

Also.. How can I get more in depth info on my heroes outside of combat? I can't even really tell the class of a particular hero, much less get a list of spells and such. Of course, I can equip them and such, but the only time I see their class listed is when they level up.

What is that Green Arrow Icon?

When I drop down my army list (from the upper left of the screen with an army selected) one of my heroes has a small green upward pointing arrow to the upper left of its portrait. It's been there for a couple turns now, and I can't see anything about it from the detailed view of the hero. What could it mean?

All heroes are created as is, what i mean by this is : they not randomly generated.

If you want to know the class of a hero, open the game manual, near the end you get every heroes name and every class they fall under.

As for what equipment they can wear you can find that in the manual also, page 31 and 32.

The green arrow means that unit has an active enchantment, if I remember right (cannot check directly now).
Did you cast anything permanent on that Hero, like Stoneskin?

    Clashing Circles?

I was making a toon, and had selected tier VI water and summoning - both give you 6 tier 1 spells, and both have phantom warriors as a tier one spell. When you select it from one Dicipline, it is already selected for the other, thus preventing from spending all 6 points as required to proceed.

Perhaps there will be a fix for this in the future.

You dont have to spend all those points to proceed, just pick the 5 other spells, then press start, there will be a message telling you : "You can still spend more points, are you sure you wish to proceed" just answer yes and your game will start #

Here's a compilation of every spell list I did that someone made. Should cover every spell in the game. In particular, just about every destructive spell of the type you're looking for should be under 'destruction'. While I wouldn't recommend investing in it - see explanation below - it would be a good start to finding what you're looking for.

Personal recommendation: Water/Destruction 2 on any build gets you access to Cold Pulse, a fairly cheap strategic spell that can be cast on any opponent army - this includes ones garrisoned in cities. Does 4d6 ice damage to each unit. You can save up to six uncast spells, so you can cast one cold pulse every 1-2 turns, then drop them all to nuke an army the turn before you strike.

Fire/Destruction 3 gets you Fireball, and Fire/Destruction 4 gets you Fire Storm - a more powerful fire-based version of Cold Pulse, but it has to be researched.

Death contains a lot of very powerful spells, but getting the best results out of it requires playing as the Unhallowed against living opponents. Using death spells as a living race is a double-edged sword at best, but it can work with the right build.

Don't invest in Destruction - it's not worth it. The benefit it confers - access to a wide variety of different elemental attack spells - isn't worth giving up the other tactical spells that investing those points in another school would have. 90% of the time, it makes no difference whether you cast ice bolt or fire arrow, and the 10% of the time it does, your army should be capable of making up the difference.

Where do you get the invulnerability spell from?

JEMelby, I've been working through a pretty definitive spell list of this games direct predecessor, World of Magic. I haven't personally found any difference in PQ's spells. The thing I really like about this list is that it is multi-tabbed spreadsheet (on Google Docs) that I downloaded, and could modify/sort to my current interests, then use it as a roadmap of sorts to try out new things.

Also, the forum link below is the same place to post bugs, etc... definitely worth registering there.

Why does the casting cost of Invulnerability and other spells keep increasing?

On the battlefield? The only reason for this would be increased spellcasting penalty from distance to your capital.

Can't you cast it on the overworld and just pay the upkeep?

Lasts 3 turns? I've had freezing weapon on my hero and has never gone away.

Some buffs/enchantments have a turn by turn mana upkeep cost where as others are infinite such as the weapon enchants.

I found this out the hard way.

I made a "super hero" but he's useless a far distance from my capital as I lack the mana to cast invulnerability #

Weapon enchantment on a unit are infinite as long as I have the mana upkeep.
Invulnerability only lasts 3 turns in a battle for a reason. Why play the game if your units can't be killed. I see invulnerability as a great tactical spell when your outmanned.
