You got me convinced already, thanks for the interest, everyone! I might even have part 1 "Creating a new game" out later today.
Small UI thing... Does anyone else find the scrolling lists in the city window (units, buildings to build and buildings already built) scroll much too slowly? I'm using an iPad Air 2 with the latest software update and feel a little shock of surprise each time the list responds more slowly than my finger.
Scrolls fast enough for me on my Air1, but then I'm not in a rush it could be a bit faster I guess; going all the way to the bottom/top does take a bit, admittedly.
I'm not in a rush either. But every time I experience it, I feel it jarringly stands out from the rest of the UI experience—which is smooth. (Excepting what I find to be the too abrupt transition between the end of a battle scene and the subsequent victory or loss screen. That's so fast it feels like something has crashed.)
Planar Conquest Manual Our designer is going to write the manual for Planar Conquest. It will be available this week.
Good to hear that, thanks a lot for the update; and of course for putting in the effort of actually writing it!
You know, you could always write one yourself Jokes aside, the ingame help and available data is already immense. Having the manual, and/or a strategy guide is just icing on the cake. My first guide post is almost done, I'll have it up tomorrow if not this evening.
What he said. Seriously, the game's in-game contextual help and hover text is great (albeit still hard for me to trigger at times), I was looking for more of a fun beginners' tips kind of guide.
Has anyone been able to found a new city using a settler unit alone? Where page 40 of the 'Worlds of Magic Manual' states: It is often (if not always) a good idea to send an army to escort the settler unit. Losing them is costly. I find that I absolutely can not start a new city unless the settler unit (in my case a Pioneer unit of the Grey Elves) is accompanied by another unit. @doomtrader: is this perhaps a bug?
Yes, I have been able to found a new city with just a settler alone. You need to be aware of where you try to found a new city because it won't let you throw one up wherever you want.
Yes, works fine for me without an army to accompany them. However, I do recommend to take at least 2 units along, 4 is even better. For one, you want to protect your city against roaming monsters. And 2 garrison units reduce unrest by 10%. This means you can set your taxes higher without getting Rebels. @doomtrader: I could not build a city on a mountain square. Is that a bug, or intentional? And crafting seems to have a bug as well: Items like a basic dagger with only a +5 damage/to-hit enchantment show up with 0 Mana cost, but do cost Mana to craft. I'll put up the first guide post tomorrow morning. Played on a bit in the meantime, and have enough notes for several more. Will take me a few days to polish them, though.
Hmm. Thanks both of you for your replies. I do then believe it was a bug as I was able to start a city with the Pioneer as soon as I moved an Archer to the same spot. (And I replicated the situation: 'impossible to found a city and then able to found a city' using a backup.)
