@Eli: I do understand the malady you are in with reviews; not just for this game, but in general. Can only speak for myself, of course. I always try to not come across as "being onboard the fanboy train". If I have criticism, I attempt to point it out in a civilised manner. Sometimes fails, see my own comment about the review, no problem admitting that. But yes, I have seen the behaviour you describe in way worse degrees ... and don't like it one bit. I guess what I want to say is "show the proverbial raving-mad foaming-at-the-mouth fanboys the proverbial finger, and write good reviews for people who appreciate them"
Unfortunately not (yet). I asked for it a while ago, but don't know where it is on Wastelands roadmap, if at all. Having different mechanics per race would be a nice touch: Humans and Orcs pack up everyone and trek to a new place; Dwarves turn the town into a mobile fortress, put treads under it and move it as a whole. Unhallowed recycle you into a gooey pile of Negative Energy, while Insects turn it into biomass; Elves hug a few more trees until the town gets overgrown by forest; and Darkelves just sacrifice everybody who isn't out of town by the count of three
It's got to be a bug. On my first Playthrough I bought the exact same thing and the damage was pretty underwhelming by comparison .
Well, developer spends couple of years working on a game, trying to improve it step by step and in the end, some guy who spent 15 hours with it writes that: - nodes don't have guardians (untrue) and makes a point from it for some reason - there's multiplayer in the game (untrue - granted, that's a con but still, didn't he even check?) - spends a whole paragraph on a bug that was in the first iteration of the game and was fixed immediately (I mean the tutorial bug). No one, who reads the review NOW will get to experience that bug since it's been fixed months ago. It's just below the belt - why the price drama? He'd rather see a 40$ price or spend 120$ with microtransactions? I don't get it. - says that the devs moved to another game from Worlds of Magic, instead of fixing it, missing the fact, that PQ is exactly that. - there's more untrue things but I don't care to check again now There's a lot of untrue statements in this review, that's what's bugging me, not the score. His 15 hours may have ruined years of work of someone else, made them "totally wasted", if you will. Also, people are always saying that reviews are unfair, no matter on which side the pendulum swings. Reviewers need to be ready for criticism as much, as game makers.
I guess my point more was with how emotionally invested you guys have gotten in this game, there's nothing we could write that'd make anyone happy. So, we'd dump a ton of time on to something that serves little purpose when we could just devote those resources more intelligently.
Of course you wouldn't make anyone happy. That's not what reviews are for though (making people, who already own the game, happy), they're for customers, not fans. I mean people who are on the fence, make the purchase or not? I'm not saying you should do the review, it's your site. I just find your arguments a little odd.
I know how you feel Eli, i understand how the community can be, if you would just allow me though : the problem we had with this review that was linked earlier is that the reviewer was clearly just bashing things that arent even true / were fixed, kind of hard to take a review seriously when half of the complaints the guy had are nowhere to be found in the actual game. the fact that he didnt like it is one thing, bashing using lies as fuel is another. The comment left at the end regarding what their other reviewer (Troy) said, sounds way more objective, its just sad to see a game being bashed without reason. If the game would get lets say three stars, and then i would read "i didnt like x point because it makes you feel ABC and made me lose enjoyment" then ill just accept that and move on, someone saying "this game is crap because there was a bug on version 1.0" is just plain idiotic.
We don't have that fancy popup asking to rate the game yet included, so it would be cool if you could share your thought about the game with those at the fence. The more the merrier!
Where are these Steam reviews? I'm looking at the Steam page now and as it is not yet available there are no reviews.
Why does auto scouting not work? I've made it work once but now when I select it in my Sprite it doesn't move unless I move it
They're right here, http://store.steampowered.com/app/265970/ But as mentioned in the thread if you read it, these are reviews for the older Worlds of Magic not updated to current Planar Conquest on iOS.
Those aren't reviews, that's a crucifixion but to each their own. All I know is this... This is the most expensive game I have purchased for iOS. Do I regret it? Absolutely not. No game is going to be absolutely perfect for everyone but this game is perfect for me and that's what's important. To spend $20 bucks on a game is FA to me and I recall the days of buying new PS1 titles for 70+ dollars when I had to rely on EGM for reviews. I get that everyone is on a different budget but I feel I and others are getting their money's worth. I know I could pick up a free game and play for countless hours but at the same time that supports something I despise ... The F2P P2W model. I'd rather spend the money on a complete title and not have to worry about timers and currency and all that BS and then buy DLC if I really enjoy it. I have no idea why I started typing this message but to sum it up, those Steam reviews are not reflective of the enjoyable experience that I and many others are having. If you're on the fence, spend the money and give it a go. Don't listen to people complain about an unfinished title on a totally different platform they they got butthurt about. As for Eli and his lack of reviews... Who cares? I don't rely solely on TouchArcade to tell me if I should buy a game or not, we all have different tastes, likes, etc. What we should be greatful of is TA taking the time to post about the game to draw attention to it. If it wasn't for their post I would have never found this gem or picked this up. So we can be bitter that their not about to do a review or we can be thankful that they gave the game and this thread some publicity and we can all enjoy it. Thanks Mr. Hodapp !
Ouch, seems to be a bug in v1.2.3 v1.2.4. Definitely worked in earlier versions. I just checked with a Sprite - as you wrote - and a Magic Spirit: Autoscouting doesn't do anything now. I'll report it over at Wastelands' forum as well.
It works in version 1.2.4, maybe you can explain more in what condition it stop working.. If you already explore all area it will stop auto scouting. Edit: sorry..I am talking about magic spirit
