welcome! I play on both my iPhone 6+ and iPad Air 2. The ONLY thing I had trouble with on the phone are some of the descriptors/help screens being on the small size (text-wise). Playability is great on either, although you can't start a game on one, then continue on the other.

@Dethredus: Play on the Air ;) I'm on an Air1 as well, and would not want to play PC on a smaller screen.

@4X: Noticed that only now: Turn 100 and 6 towns? You sure are taking it slow :) I usually have around 15 well-developed towns at that point. 2-3 to produce armies, and the rest to provide upkeep.

@athros: Thanks a lot for doing all the work on the unit stats, this looks good!

@Mintdragon: If/when more people post game reports, we can make a new thread. For the few I post it feels like a bit overkill, even they would be easier to find. Might start one anyways next week, and copy the existing ones over.

I tried a speedbuild yesterday (works, will post it later; need try with more than one Plane, though); doing another game for the beginner's guide soon.

And while I'm not as old as other people here, I do consider myself part of the old guard ;) started with Arcades (Pong, Asteroids, etc.) somewhere around 1980. Think I was 9 or 10 when I got my first computer, a C64 (with a black&white TV). Friends of mine had the Atari VCS (2600?) and a C16 a few years earlier, fun times.

I'm playing on big maps with lots of water mostly now. Gives possibility of exploration, while not getting too many cities to keep track of. Also now mostly playing on 3rd difficulty, feels like good challenge but not too hard.

Currently on about turn 100 with 10 cities playing dwarves. With new AI i dont wander around as much w main army, so slow movement not as much of a problem. Think i have a shot at winning this game - will be my first in that case on new AI.
(9 earth, 1 fire, 1 water, earth mastery, mentor, merchant, alchemist, butcher, tyrant and the max 1k gold one).
Merchant is maybe a bit too good, and alchemist as nullzone have noted makes the max 1k gold negative irrelevant.

    Diving in

Yet another lurker who watched this amazing thread grow until I decided I had to experience this game for myself. Picked it up last night, and right off the bat am very impressed with the overall production quality. I don't think the screenshots do it justice.

I'm trying to do the tutorial but it freezes up after that first battle, every time. Unless I'm mistaken I thought the "Druid bug" was fixed in this current version?

I'm playing on a 6+, and a lot of the UI text feels almost comically small...would love an option to bump it up a bit. :)

Minor visual nitpick- the crossed swords background on the enemy side of the battle intro screen. It's ripped straight from one of the most common Jolly Roger flags out there:
All the other elements in the UI look so nice and well-crafted, and to me that one graphic just sticks out like a sore thumb, as if it was a placeholder that never left. Not a biggie, just kinda kills the immersion factor.

All in all though, I'm really impressed with the little bit I've explored so far and can't wait to get lost in this!

@calabash11: Welcome aboard! :) As always, if you have questions, just ask away.

Not only for you, but for everyone:
Seconding what Mintdragon wrote earlier; would be great if more people post game reports, so we get more strategies and things to talk about.
Personally, I am especially interested in spell/casting strategies: which schools you choose, and why. What you spend your time casting on, and in what order.

The more I play, the more I see how I always follow a few specific casting strategies, e.g. relying heavily on combat summons (guess I have to do a Destruction game sometime soon) and town enchantments.
Only rarely do I do something different, like mass-casting Wetlands to improve my Unhallowed towns, or using boost spells in combat.

No one wants to read my battle reports haha I prefer longer slower more epic games. My days of zergling rushes are far behind me in my old age. :)

@Nullzone finding something that works isn't bad. Its perfecting a strategy, something to be proud of!

That being said I like to challenge my self and change it up. Thus why I have 300 + hours on WoM. Adapting to different game styles and trying things I would have never tried has been exhilarating! (No Magic play through on the hardest difficulty with 8 AI and all planes? Actually did it on WoM :) )

    Spell Listing

@Nullzone, is there a list of spells anywhere? Perhaps its obvious and I have missed it. The first three Tiers can be seen within game setup but that leaves out a number of others.

I'm with StormbringerGT here, I'm going so slow, who'd want to hear about my reports? I'm pretty new to the whole 4X thing though, so I have a lot of catching up to do. If anyone cares, I'm still on my first game, around turn 110, six cities, drove Mu Bei out of my plane, but still have some Neutrals around. I've gone to the Prime Plane just now, and oh my god, this game has some depth to it. I'm having a bit of a hard time keeping up with everything, and I really feel like I'm under-utilizing the arsenal at my disposal. Being on the easiest difficulty isn't really challenging, but it sure is a great way to get familiar with all the concepts and starting to figure a strategy out.

Another thing, this game has basically stopped me from using my iPad for pretty much anything else, because I tend to just hit the lock button instead of leaving the game, so whenever I get back, I can't resist playing it. The only reason I'm here right now is because it crashed on me, and I took the chance to check up what's happening on the web :)

Durnit, I shoulda never posted in this thread. Now I can't stop myself from checking it, and it will not be too long before I'll be unable to stop myself from buying that hit button...

Just started a new game. I wrote up a quick randomizer script for planes and came up with

I decided on the Myrodants for race, and the Sorc setup of:

I'm doing Mageling difficulty, all of the other options are the same.

    Finally, the starting position is:

    Random game

This makes me think a "random" choice for the new game steps would make for some interesting matches as we become less inept. Force the learning of new combinations. @doomtrader

i am trying all kinds of different stuff too, but some (like Summoning for a speed game) work just too well ;)
Your "No Magic" playthrough, now *that* is something I'd love to see a report of. Got one on my list too, but can take a while till I get around to it.
How long did that take you? I'd expect at least 250 turns for something like it (if I really rush things); but most likely a lot more.

Perfecting strategies is fun on its own, not worried about that ;) I'm still learning new tricks all the time.

Latest one is selling all unneeded buildings in Upkeep towns once they are fully developed, to keep costs down (had to do that with the Unhallowed, was running out of N.E. And it works really well).

Another thing I always forget is that gearing up later towns to high-end unit production takes way too long.
Much better to only use two or three early towns (from before turn 50/75 or so) for that, and have newer production towns just crank out low-level throw-away armies (say, Archers and Reapers for Unhallowed).

There was a link to a list of WoM spells somewhere in this thread, don't know right away where it is.
@doomtrader: Could you make a spell list available somewhere? Would be really handy for reference.

Nonsense ;) that what makes things interesting, seeing the different playstyles in action etc. And especially info from newer players would be great; so others who are in the same boat can see how things go when you start from scratch with (almost) no prior knowledge.

QUESTION: How is combat casting distance penalty calculated?

@doomtrader: Can you add to the manual how the combat casting distance penalty is calculated?
I still could not figure out how it works exactly. E.g. just being on a different Plane does not always result in higher casting costs. I had battles on other Planes where I only had the basic casting costs.
On my Home Plane it seems to be distance from my Tower. Would like to know when the penalty kicks in exactly, and how it scales with distance.

I spent a good chunk of time playing (first real time playing the updated version) and had a couple of glitches that I had to force quit to get around. It's not the end of the world thanks to auto-save but I'm sure these issues weren't present in the previous version.

    1) think I tapped something too fast in battle view during/after enemies turn, so when it was my turn again, all I could do was move/drag the camera. Pressing on any unit or button was just dragging the camera as if it didn't know what's under my finger.

    2) in the overworld view, it got stuck on "waiting for other players" (2 planes, 4 enemies).

Games definitely more challenging now from what I've seen up to turn 70-ish in this game. I've got a 16 stack enemy stalking near my cities and that's not my only threat. I'm spread a bit thin now I brute-forced taking over 2 cities on my continent but let's see if I can turn it around (if my save isn't bugged!).

EDIT: yep, unfortunately that game file is corrupted :( End my turn and it gets stuck on waiting for other players again.
Dammit I was enjoying that. How disheartening!!

    @doomtrader: Bug List

I have played a number of games since the release of v1.2. I tend to play long games as I like to explore and these bugs seem to occur after 100 or 200 turns. I am playing on an iPad Air 2.

    1. Game hangs up on "waiting for other players", after I press the end of turn button. My short term fix is to exit the game and then restart and load the last save game. This one happens fairly frequently after 100 or so turns. I sent in a save game on this. I have also seen this bug reported by others.

    2. Units and some terrain features separate from the rest of the screen. When I try to interact with the game this top layer just slides around. Same short term fix as in 1. above - reload a sabe game. This one has only happened in my games twice.

    3. As I reported a couple of days ago, I have also had one case of my city garrison units disappearing. This happened over several turns. I was not at war with anyone. I had plenty of money, food and mana. No spells were cast on my towns and I was not being attacked by independents

I believe these bugs should be put on the list to be fixed.

The game is great fun. If you can squash these bugs it will be easier to get others to want to play.

    Planar links map

@doomtrader it would be helpful for players if we had a way of visualising the entry/exit points of the planar gateways.

I have mocked up a very simple example of what I'm talking about. This would be useful as in some cases two gateways to the same plane that are very close together on Plane A, but far apart or in differing orientations on Plane B.

    Bug reports

    1 - unrest is unreasonably high (99999999%)
2 - Sometimes when I have finished researching a spell, and click the "next turn" button, no spells are displayed. This has happened twice so far

Realized I never asked the obligatory question to this piece of extremely exciting news: will multiplayer be asynchronous, with proper iOS notifications, etc?

(There is an ancient and eternal hardcore iOS gaming dream of a second proper 4X with async, for those of us who have already explored every single solar system in Starbase Orion down to the dust particles at the edges, and I could not imagine a more exciting candidate than Planar Conquest.)
