OK, lightbulb went off, I get it now... Took me to turn 35, Score 1297, but have my first win. Much thanks! I'm sure I'll have tons of questions for everyone going forward, but have a base to start building from. Also figured out that if there is 'something that needs attention' (no production in a city, no spells being researched, etc...), the spirits won't auto-scout. Question answered.
Found a web review: http://www.psnation.com/2016/02/05/strategize-your-way-to-victory-in-planar-conquest/ And the article has a Press Release from the dev: We know that Worlds of Magic had lots of issues admits CEO Leszek Lisowski We fixed many of them in subsequent updates, but weve eventually realized that if we want to unleash the full potential of our 4X project, we need to overhaul it and relaunch it. Thats how Planar Conquest was born. The game will not only feature new UI, enhanced AI, and revamped graphics, but also will be expanded with cross-platform multiplayer, intuitive map editor, and more. Best of all, Planar Conquest will be free to everyone who already owns Worlds of Magic. Of course, expansions will depend on sales, user base support, but I think they are thinking alongside of your thoughts. It screams async multiplayer. Could you imagine a 4x4 team game using all of the planes? or an 8 person FFA game? WOW. I'm in. And I'd be happy to start with 1v1
Congratulations are in order, it seems and tons of questions are perfectly normal for such a complex game, just ask away. I played Master of Magic on and off for >20 years, and computer games in general since I was 6 or so (original Asteroids, Pong, Pacman, etc.) . I have quite the experience to draw from, which does make things a lot easier most of the time. You got it almost right Pre-set movement - like autoscouting or sending a unit off to a target a few turns away - is done at the end of the turn, after you hit the "end turn" button. You should notice that after "end turn", your units on the way to somewhere will move then. When all your movement is done, you'll see the "Waiting for other players". And when that's done, the next turn starts: turn counter goes up by one; spells, buildings, etc. that had one turn left to complete before you hit "end turn" are done now, etc. That's quite similar/identical to lots of tabletop wargames, where often you have separate turn phases for movement, combat, magic, etc.
I see fresh blood here. We are working on the Multiplayer. Hard to say when exactly it will be released, but most probably after the PC and console release. We are aiming to make it multiplatform, so you will be able to play with many more players, and also with your friend who will get the game on different platform.
Please allow an allied / cooperative victory for multiplayer. The kids (9+) enjoy the game and it would be nice to be able to play with and support them against nasty AIs. Competitive would not be possible unless there was a strong handicapping system
@Sithandril: Coop-MP would be nice, seconding that. My kid isn't old enough to play by himself yet, but likes to watch and boss me around ("Daddy, let's go fight over there! Get the monster!") You could handicap yourself as much as you want, that's easily possible with what is already there. For example, only select negative traits but less - or none at all - positive ones, less Spell Schools, or a race that has a harder time against what your kids want to play.
Our programmer went a little too far in his righteous zeal to purge the localization file of all redundant entries. It's fixed already and should be in the next update. Neutrals have less 'patrol' armies and more 'offensive' armies, so indeed they may be a bit more agressive.
Good point... it had never occurred to me that you could start without spending all the attribute points... Nice to see you can start without spending any and that it is kind enough to warn you!
If there is something specific that you want to know and wish to be inserted into the manual, hit me up. Currently I know that I need to add all terrain bonuses.
Damn! And here I thought I was an old gamer having gotten started in 1981 on an Apple][+ (64k RAM and two monstrous floppy drives!) It's NEVER too late to play Master of Magic! I downloaded a very nice fan update which I posted earlier in this thread but will dig up again if anyone is interested. It purports to fix many of the bugs from MoM and plays quite nicely in DOSBox. The AI is downright brutal now I've also been playing quite a bit of Age of Wonders 3 (with both very solid DLC). It's a different experience, but still the very closest ANY game has come to repeating the experience (not necessarily the mechanics) of MoM!
Finally threw caution to the winds and just bought the base game. Nullzone your enthusiasm has proven irresistible
Well done Wasteland Interactive! After playing a couple days on the testflight (emailing you a list of notes doomtrader ) I can say this game is looking great! I haven't played a game like this on the tablet. 70 hour work weeks until our own game launches hinders this a little bit, after working 14 hours I found my self in bed playing until the early morning. Now I have 4 hours of sleep and another 12 hour day ahead of me. Huzzah Wastelands Interactive! I also never though I would want to play a game like this on the tablet. But Holy smokes you guys made it work while keeping all the depth of World of Magic. I bought the PC version and was happy with it and I'm very happy to see the project reborn and not die. This is the answer to MoM. I am more than happy to purchase Planar Conquest on the tablet and when it comes out for the PC and consoles. I cannot wait to see how this works on the consoles! From one developer to another, keep up the good work. I know your pain! I really hope this gets the public attention it deserves. So talk about Planar Conquest. Talk about it at work; on facebook. Tweet. Hop on steam and mention you thoughts about it. On Gamefaqs. Be honest with your opinions and get the game the exposure it needs. WI being small means their marketing is small or nonexistent. Help where you can help. I want some expansions. >
Seonding the expansions, StormbringerGT Something like Lords of Magic's Legends of Urak quests would be fantastic, to scratch that RPG itch as well. But let the dust settle a bit first, I am quite sure our good Wastelands folks still have a lot of things in the pipeline for a few more updates. @Redwind: Why, thanks, my pleasure This is the game I enjoy writing for/about the most, directly behind Nimian Legends. @Mintdragon: Started another Grey Elves playthrough for the beginner's guide. But even with a medium map, I might have to slow down a lot. Turn 11, and first enemy Sorcerer fell to my forces. Don't think I can stretch the game till turn 50 and beyond, so most likely it'll have to be another on a large map after that. If I have time, I'll put up an in-between battle report tomorrow.
Expansions! I know the team is working hard to have the PC and console versions up but man would it be great to see additional content.
The thing is the price ceiling might be difficult for people to adapt on IOS. It might be good even to allow users to download the game, just make a tutorial/demonstration mission free with limited facilities they can build & let them have a feel of it. If they like it, they can unlock via IAP which is the base game price. I think this will generate more potential for new adapters.
This is exactly how we did it with our upcoming game Pathfinder Adventures. Planar Conquest could have a free version which consists of two races across two small planes and a limited selection of spells. When people scroll through lists they look for that word "Free" and those dominate the top apps. You should also talk to google and apple and see if you can get a small window of "featured" game time. Google has been quick in the past to give it to games they enjoy and your game fills a unique spot in the market. You guys have my email already so shoot me a message and I can get you some contacts.
Haha, I know right? Then again I'm a freaking pacifist who has just signed a pact of non-aggression with Mu Bai, and is too busy cleaning his own plane of thugs and bandits
