I've been following this thread quite actively and am right on the threshold of pressing the buy button. If not for abandoning my "old" iPad in favor of my much faster 6s Plus, I'd already be all over this. As someone who at least looks at every last "spiritual successor" to MoM, and buys many, I was very excited about WoM and then extremely disappointed with how broken it was on release. To say that the dev involvement in this thread and overall responsiveness is inspiring renewed hope would be a SERIOUS understatement! Apropos of nothing, if you still have your old MoM install or want to buy it from GoG for a song, there's a new patch to the older Insecticide (1.40n). It's forked from someone's mod called Caster of Magic and is being billed as the unofficial 1.5 patch. http://realmsbeyond.net/forums/showthread.php?tid=7954 The AI is downright brutal. I suspect there's some generous cheating going on, but even on Hard, I get swarmed by enemy wizards quite early. It's a blast for some serious MoM playtime!
Heros? Apologies for the n00b question. I started another game. Where to get a hero? Edit: I see from @nullzone's guide that you do not start with a hero if you do not choose "Mentor"
Thanks for all the work, athros! Great job! On my side, I put up a 2-part guide with my thoughts on using the different races as vassals (aka not your main race): Part I and Part II. @faceleg: I see you found the Mentor trait @Dethedrus: Jump in, it's definitely worth it.
Jump to x from notification @doomtrader another convenient feature request. When something happens like a Stable is completed at city X, which causes the notifications icon (left) to glow red, I push the icon which causes a detail panel to display. I then push "cities" to see the notification for the stable completion. It would bet GREAT if I could press on the stable icon (or a "jump to x" button) and go directly to the city in question. You see I'm dumb as a plank and believe it or not it is possible for me to forget both the name of the city and the building completed in the time it takes me to close the notifications, open the city chooser, choose the city. I realise it's non trivial as you'd have to implement the functionality for all things that show up in the notifications panel, but oh boy this would be a convenient feature. EDIT: I just noticed that I can open the menu (+ in lower right) without closing the notifications panel. This makes it much less likely that I will forget what is going on.
@faceleg: About noting when something's done in a town: I have the same selective dementia, so I feel with you What I do is: When I absolutely need to pay attention to a town after they complete a building/unit, I only put that one item in their queue. That guarantees that they'll pop up with "queue empty". I can then take a look and decide what to do next. What I'd really like to have is renaming towns (asked that before). So I can call my main military town "Camp McCuddles" or something like that.
Edwin (and of course rest of the team) would like to invite you to the first video from the "Understanding Planar Conquest" series. Part 1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRQxCu_-EEs Please leave us your comments what do you think, how to improve and what would you like us to talk you about.
Yep I'll see if I can get around to listing all the bugs and requests in this thread next week, it is getting a little crowded
This is a big one for me, but I actually want different colored chests more (material in chest is a different color). I'm thinking gold chest - gold color, mana chest - light blue color, XP chest - purple color. I do like auto scout and I'd love for it to skip XP chests since they are of almost no value for your scout besides denying enemies the XP. However, I often direct my units every turn, including scouts, and I find myself constantly holding down on chests multiple times to confirm the contents. Also renaming towns would be quite nice. I can't wait any longer for the new AI!
Another thing to think about. In Warcraft 3 each faction had a "alter of Heroes" building. The factions heroes could be summoned there for a price. Please consider the strategic and implementation complexity of having a similar building for each faction in PC. It would be a way for the player to choose the hero they wanted early on, while ensuring the heroes were in theme with their chosen race. Personally I would much prefer this over random hero summoning spell we have at the moment. Being able to hire heroes at the inns is great though.
I *LOVE* that a very expensive game (in Appstore terms) is still on the list of hot games after a couple weeks!
UPDATE: I've got the units parsing WITH spells. Now I'm working on a text format for the units. The repo has been updated with the latest script.
