Hi Baracus! I think that @Nullzone has answered your questions better than I could. I've been messing around with PC for about a week, trying to figure out the system, starting many games with different builds but not finishing any of them (yet). As mentioned last night's game was really short, I think it took me about 2 hours to play. If you like rogue-likes I encourage you to check PC out. It reminds me of one of my favourite games: Final Fantasy Tactics.
Pretty much same as me, though I've been following Nullzone's builds and playing around within those starting settings. Most of my gaming sessions tend to be no more than a couple of hours at the moment whilst I learn the basic game mechanics.....but it's so damned exciting because there is SO much to learn, even after a week, it's as if each game is preparing you for bigger and better things. At the moment I'm focusing on battle tactics and also new city placements which isn't as easy at it sounds as a lot of my second city placements fall into debt really quickly due to poor gold per turn revenue - any thoughts?
The Skeletons need to be re-balanced, I just have no real idea what to do about them. Either make them cost 1 Mana/turn upkeep; or do not let them count as garrisons. Air Elemental: it's a flying unit. Unless a unit has "long reach", you can only hit flyers on counter-attack. Swarming them works pretty well indeed Undefended enemy towns: the strategy AI needs a serious boost, even on highest difficulty it's just muddling around and doesn't pose any real challenge. Didn't finish a single game yet, just playing around and trying different things. When the crashes get fixed, I guess my Unhallowed game should rack in a nice score Nodes & siphons: I think you can capture them and build your own siphon, but didn't try yet. I saw a nasty spell that turns a Node around, making it drain Mana instead of creating it. @Paganfox: nice to hear you like the guides, thanks! Gold revenue: Most of mine comes from Spirits exploring and dungeon rewards. Which race do you play? That'll make it easier to give some recommendations. In general, don't go overboard with buildings and units, balance them against your gold income. I sometimes set towns on Housing or Trade, to generate more income. Towns with low production bonus I only build food/mana/gold bonus, and a basic unit building to create garrison units. If I have another town nearby, sometimes I even skip that one. With more garrison (units that only need Food upkeep are great for that) you can set your taxes higher. And there is at least one spell that generates more gold: Prosperity, really nice one. Currently using it to great effect with my Orcs.
I believe the fact that there is so much to learn is one of the main attractions for me. (Ever learned to play 'Magic Realm'?) PC is pretty much the antithesis of a "pick up and play" game isn't it? Interesting question. The standard answer would probably be: raise taxes and (1) increase the garrison size, (2) build 'temples', (3) cast 'calming' enchantments—to compensate for the unrest. This isn't working for you?
I'm not sure you can capture them once they have been captured (which is why I was looking for confirmation). But that nasty spell... oh wow!
Nice spot on Frontpage\Hot Games Just noticed Planar has #2 spot in the Hot Games list on the TA Frontpage, right below FF9. Quite impressive, and well deserved!
Yes indeed, your enthusiasm amongst others' has been quite infectious!! I've been keeping my eye on where it's been "ranking" and love that people are loving this game....think we've stumbled on a true and lasting gem!!
Great Game! Nerf Summon Skeleton! This game is great and I love having a deep strategic game on my 6+. However, there's a couple glaring issues that I hope will be addressed: @doomtrader This is my biggest complaint - Skeletons. I can't play a game without summoning skeletons because they are completely unbalanced garrison units. If they are left as 0 upkeep units then they should not count for reducing unrest when garrisoned. I often spam skeletons as much as I can and put 2/4/6/8... on each city to keep unrest down with absolutely no penalty and a decent defense. I hope this is addressed ASAP. A couple smaller complaints would be the enemy AI (too easy due to unprotected cities and odd/pointless moves with their armies) and Unhollowed able to take the negative trait Tyrant (no unrest for Unhollowed. If it's intended that an Unhollowed sorcerers can take this then it should applied automatically). In all, I highly recommend the game to fans of the genre and I commend the development team for being in touch with their community. Thank you for this amazing game! I hope we'll see more DLC!
Haven't bought the expansions yet and one thing that has been driving me crazy is that sometimes, when you go to interact with some feature on the map, it will show possible units from a race I haven't purchased, like dwarves, and then when I do interact with it, it converts them to low level High Men engineers which I can quickly and easily defeat. Can the game either include other races as enemies or simply not include unpurchased races from assignment as enemies??
New Bug I ran into a new bug this weekend. My army moved onto a feature (ruin?) on the main map. A battle started with the garrison of the ruin. After the battle was won on the tactical map the army reappeared on the main map - but everything was now different. Everything but the cities (features, reasources, armies. etc) now moved as the cursor was moved. Their was no longer any way to interact with the armies or cities or end the turn. So I shut down the app. Then I restatred the game and reloaded from the last save. All appeared to be normal again. However, as soon as I reentered the same terrain feature and fought again the same problem reoccured. When I shut down and reloaded the game again the second time, I bypassed the terrain feature rather than entering it and went on playing the game without problem. I am playing PC on an iPad Air 2.
@trystero: I also haven't bought the expansions yet (I'm sort of saving it as a reward after winning a few times with the High Men, Grey Elves and Dark Elves...) and, like you, see and fight against races which I haven't formally purchased. As a matter of fact I've just started a new game playing the Grey Elves and, using the Mentor discipline, have the Myrodant gladiator Klickwyk fighting on my side. @4Xgames: while I haven't seen the shifting features bug which you describe, I have seen defeated features (for example a watchtower) remaining on the world map. An attempt to interact with them results in 'nothing happening'. I'm still unsure about the status of enemy siphons. My few attempts to interact with them has also resulted in 'nothing happening' which led me to believe that once a node has been captured for a sorcerer lord it can't be lost again. Would love to hear whether I am right or wrong about this assumption...
Future feature request @doomtrader Would it be possible to add access to the game's complete spellbook (all circles, all tiers, over-world and tactical) as well as the complete bestiary (this latter was requested by @Nullzone earlier in this thread) from the main screen at some point? Thanks! Edited to add: At the moment, as far as I know, there is NO way for us to peruse the higher echelons of strategic spells, that is, at least in game. In other words: it is impossible to pursue a particular strategy if one is unaware of its possibility (has yet to peruse it).
Seconding the full spell list. Ingame would be luxury, just having it as a PDF would already help a lot. @doomtrader: any chance you can push that out quick&dirty? Does not have to look pretty I am currently trying to figure out the best Magic School picks at start for the Orcs (hint: I am so *not* going for Water 9 & Water Mastery again; did that for flavour reasons). And I am quite struggling with the synergies between schools: The manual states that (most) spells belong to multiple schools, and any combination of picks in those schools will give you access to a spell. Right now, I am doing by trial and error, and it's really tedious.
Found a couple of hours ago: this spread sheet put together by an early access Worlds of Magic user. Don't know to what extent it is still pertinent but perhaps it helps some in the interim. Edit: @Nullzone, agreed to .pdf but in-game would allow it to be sortable using PC's lovely spell book interface!
Suggestion concerning location of eventual 'compleat' spell book Rather than the main screen it would be perhaps more apt to add this to the sorcerer's mirror. (Makes looking at oneself more useful!)
Skeletons will get nerfed. This is a bug. Unhallowed aren't supposed to get living units out of features or inns. I haven't been able so far to get them as rewards - was it any specific one?
Good to hear If I may, I'd suggest the following: - Keep their unit stats as they are - Let them still count for Garrison to reduce Unrest - Increase their upkeep cost to 1 Mana/Turn - Increase their Summoning Cost to be more in line with the other Summons. Comparing them to the Mummies, I'd think at least half the cost of those. The current 20 Mana is way too low. I don't know off the top of my head what all the different Summons cost, and what stats they have. So I can't suggest a more specific number. Those were High Men Settlers. I think I saw High Men Paladin for hire once too, in that Unhallowed game; but not 100% sure on that. I cannot remember that I saw any other races' units, so maybe it's limited to High Men only. Oh, does "not supposed to get living units" extend to Heroes as well? Because being limited to Undead Heroes only would be pretty nasty. For Summoning everything should be on offer. I interpret that as summoning e.g. Goody the Paladin and bind him into servitude. Like what other mages in works/books of fantasy do with Demons, Spirits, etc. Alternative interpretation (because I really liked the ghost Hero Ixi): Summoning a non-Undead Hero summons their Ghost (and not the real living entity). Then they could get the Undead trait instead of Living, as I suggested earlier. A third option could be to limit the list to thematically fitting Heroes: e.g. "Goody the Paladin" is off the list, while "Bloody the Murderer" is perfectly fine
I mean in other features, not inns. Was it on a specific feature or on a specific plane? only units and cities.
