Bug? - Weapon Enchantments don't work with ranged Wand/Magic

    Got another one:
Just learned that Weapon Enchantments like Ice or Unholy Weapon only work for Melee and normal ranged (x/bows); but not for magical ranged attacks.
That doesn't make much sense to me. It's magic, and shooting several magic projectiles or one with combined effects should work just fine.

Also, the 2-handed Wand is Melee only, not good for a Magicuser. Would be great if that one can do both Melee and Ranged.
And if you could use either a 1H Wand and a small shield (call them charms or foci, and make them a separate crafting category) , or dualwield the wands.

@fun: Combat is a bloody huge subject, can't cover that in a short post.
Let's do it the other way around: tell me what units and spells you have, and fighting which enemies you have problems with. And I'll see what I can come up with.

This could be maybe possible for Air devices.
I will talk with the team and we will see could that be implemented at some point.

I have't played the steam (Worlds of Magic) version but I guess the advantage would be the ability to see at a glance the relative 'health' of each unit (i.e. the number of figures left within a unit) while battling.

If anyone is curious to see how this might actually look... check out this video of the designer demonstrating the tactical battle board.

Yes, though to be honest, I just love it for that old MoM feeling. It also makes the battles feel grander in scale.

You've probably already found it... if not, pressing the 'knapsack' button on the right brings up the 'forge' pane. Press the 'knapsack' button again (on the forge screen) to switch to the equipment pane.

Note: Refer to the manual pp.28-29 for specification of exactly what equipment your hero can equip. :)

I see the forge-> inventory pane, but what after that? Is there an equip button I just see a bunch of equipment I've made, but kinda looks like a dead end on that screen

Edit:found it, the equip button was not popping up in my game, I started a new one and created a weapon that I was able to equip immediately

Unhallowed Loophole - get another race, with some luck

Remember that the Unhallowed cannot have vassal races?
Well, I just found a loophole, and Mr. Master Lich is now proud owner of a Highmen seaside holiday resort ;) rumours have it he'd prefer a move to the mountains, for skiing and such.

    Now, how does it work?
Simple actually: You need to be lucky enough to get a Settler from another race, via dungeon reward or - like me - hiring in an Inn. For whatever reason, these guys didn't even starve, and I could move them a few turns away to a better location.

However, I do think this is a design oversight and should not be possible, as it does not fit with the Unhallowed mechanics and theme at all.
@Wastelands, that's not intentional, or is it?

UPDATE: Expanding on that a bit, it shouldn't be possible at all for Unhallowed to hire in Inns or get as dungeon rewards any unit that requires food upkeep.
Also, that you can for example hire a goody-two-shoes Paladin is more than a little odd.
An interesting alternative would be that any such unit immediately gets the "Undead" trait, and food upkeep requirements get replaced by Negative Energy ("Why thank you, Mr. Paladin, for joining us for the next year. Would you mind signing our standard hiring contract here, here and here? Excellent. Now, please allow me to direct your attention to §214, particularly subclause IV.b , page 81. My associates will be overjoyed to accompany you to the nearest sacrificial altar. On behalf of my Master, the Unhallowed appreciate your cooperation.")
Creating more Undead should be a trivial exercise, even more so for an accomplished Sorcerer.

Quite a lot to implement for just one race, I am fully aware of that. But it would fit very nicely thematically, so I hope you folks at Wastelands can consider that for a future update.

After all the unnatural silence it's going to be strange to hear this game.

@Nullzone Great ideas regarding the Unhallowed....love the idea of anyone unlucky enough to fall into their clutches becoming corrupted!

    Nice idea Nullzone :)

I will ask to take a look what is going on with the Unhallowed.

By some sort of crazy fluke I just won my first game in less than 20 turns.

Congratulations! What happened to your problems with combat? I take it you worked things out then?

I've been lurking in this thread since this came out and the enthusiasm is infectious, especially from Nullzone and yourself!

But I haven't bought the game yet. Main reason being that I just don't think I'll have time to play a game through, to do it justice.

I love 4x games (tho usually in more traditional civ or space themes I should say), but they tend to go on for a long time and I have very little gaming time these days unfortunately compared to when I was younger and could really sink into a game deeply! I have the feeling I'd never complete a game...

But 20 turns sounds do-able! What makes you say it was a fluke? Have you played again since and it take longer? How long would you say a playthrough would take on medium sized "map" once you get used to the interface and mechanics a bit?

The depth looks great and I love to learn new systems. I'd even be up for some 'magic' to take me out my comfort zone. But can see me just not coming back because I need hours to sit and concentrate.

    Any advice, guys? :)
    Thanks in advance!

    @Baracus:
Adding my 5 cents ;) and thanks for the compliment!
I don't have much gaming time either, usually play in small chunks of 15-30 minutes, more when our kid finally sleeps ;)

20 turns is *really* fast and must have been on a smaller map.
The largest map you can get is with 7 Planes, each sized "gigantic" (which is not an understatement).
My current game is at turn 100. While I could win in maybe 20 more turns (I think), I am taking my sweet time and keep fighting battles and powering up, instead of rushing straight for the last opponent.
So, a really long game can take me a week or two to finish, and I don't have a problem with that.
With Warhammer Quest for example, I clocked in at 150 hours or so when I stopped playing. Kept me entertained for months, and I expect that and more from Planar.

A "medium" size game should be winnable within a few hours of total playtime, I guesstimate.

If that's your cup of tea, you decide :p

    Thanks for the reply :)
    Hmm, interesting!
It's definitely my cup of tea, probably will give it a shot!

These days I tend to like games either with a shorter loop, like FTL (around couple hours for a successful run but can save it anywhere) or even shorter like the recent Space Grunts or Rust Bucket, so it feels like I've actually got somewhere! I can squeeze in a few fights on those during the week.

For PC I'd be looking at weekends only I think :)
Do you think it's easy to remember what you were doing if you come back to the map without it fresh in your mind? I mean, is there a good overview or summary of the state of the "world" at any point?

Sorry if this sounds vague! :D

@Baracus: don't know the other games you mention, so I can't compare.
But something happens every turn (a battle, a spell or a building ready, etc.), so I get a constant feeling of progress.

    World overview:
Hhmm, you have screens that show your towns and if they need attention, what you are doing in the magic department, etc. The "end turn" button even changes accordingly (e,g. into a spellbook if you don't do research) and brings you to the relevant screen. Very well thought-out UI feature, cannot remember ever seeing it before.
While my memory for certain details (which one was my main production town again?) is terrible, I have no problem recalling what my overall plan and strategy was, and which actions I want to do when I come back to the game hours later.
But that depends a lot on how you roll, so your mileage might vary.

6+, Crashing. Can't handle 7 races, large world, all planes

Just tried to do an all out.

All races, all planes, large world options. Gets to the Chappie running away from the wood elves loading screen then crashes.

Chose Orcs as my race with the mentalism tyrant demon as the sorcerer lord.

Tried 4 times already even hard reset my iPhone.

I'm on iPhone 6+, 9.2.2 update, and 11 free gigs of available phone space.

First time I've tried this, and so, first time this has happened. Hope this was discovered/reported already and fingers crossed included in next week patch. I really want to experience an all out.

re: Crashes. I have the same on my Air1, large games crash every 15-30 minutes. Because it's so consistent with the time between crashes (30m without is an outlier), I suspect a memory leak. Fingers crossed for the update ;)
I stopped my Unhallowed game, and started a smaller one with Orcs. No crash in over an hour, plays much better.

Thanks! I think I was just lucky. It was a small game, one plane, 30% landmass, 1 opponent, easiest difficulty (Adept), normal world size, resources, features and neutrals all set to common. I played High Men and summoned many, many skeletons. Man you were spot on in your earlier comment about these units. The fact that they are cheap and require no mana upkeep makes them the perfect swarm unit. Easy for newbies like me to play.

The most difficulty I had combat-wise was dealing with an ornery 'Air Elemental'. The trick to beating it: surrounding but not attacking it—only retaliating.

As to the coup de grâce: my opponent's city was situated just across from my own shining capital and, to her remorse, she left it not very well guarded.

I haven't checked this morning but last night's win put me as number five on the global single player leaderboard (as Blanchot).

Quick question: once a sorcerer has successfully built a siphon on a node it can't be lost again right?
