Yeah and that would be contrary to all of the other achievements, which up until now can be done on any difficulty level. That's not to say our good buddy James hasn't pulled a new trick on us, but he seems like a consistent sort of fellow so I would be surprised if it was difficulty-specific. Then again at this point I'm pretty much out of ideas, so by all means if someone wants to test things amidst the accelerated assault of cure research on brutal, you have my utmost respect!
I'm with redpill on this, we've tried just about everything ( but obviously not the one thing that we need too ) The traditional infect and kill via lethality - there just isn't enough lethality to get the job done. I still think this is a event sequence like POTUS/ Splain/ nuke, but not as complicated, but out of ideas on how to start the sequence. Will the next update have hints/clues?

Most I've killed is 2.3 billion, I just don't see how to get past that. Even with the creationist gene you still start getting symptom mutation by 3.5 billion infected, at which point you can burn DNA to devolve and get another few hundred million or go lethal. From that point I don't see a path to anything but defeat, I don't know what we could be missing.
Wow! This has actually a lot of potential to be a pretty unique plague. For one, it will surely have a unique transmission map. Appliances 1 - Berserk toasters and bloodthirsty shavers. Appliances 2 - Washing machines trying to electrocute you. Appliances 3 - Cookers trying to burn you and your family alive. etc, etc.
The solution is either a special event (I haven't "sniffed" any relevant text to it) or something completely counterintuitive. I'm leaning towards the second case...
Theory: Can you guys try evolving an only Coma, Delirium & Acute Encephalitis combo? (Devolve all other symptoms and only keep those three). Add any ability cure resistances you can afford. Creationist or Genetic Mimic genes I guess. My nose is telling me that there is something lying hidden in there. PS. Psychosis could also potentially be a part of the combo but I'm not sure. PS. You must absolutely devolve Insomnia, Fever and Photophobia. Those three are traps.
Best I've done is 5.5Billion infected before mutation, starting in the USA on casual with creationist. It is random though, generally it's 3.5-4.0 billion. But even on 5.5 billion most I killed was 1.0 billion, I just evolved all the lethal symptoms I could.
I've done that a few times actually, nothing really happened, except that one time where they shut down the trade routes. They just cured my disease. I even let the cure run all the way until the ending screen popped up just in case something happens. Nothing. :/
I just killed 1.5B before the cure but I was very unlucky because both China and India were infected very early. The cure on the other hand was quite slow. Significantly slower than usual. I wanna try this strategy at Canada, infect USA early and have them be the first countries to have their research shut down. There might be some hope there. PS. It seems that this strategy works better with Genetic Mimic. Also, Psychosis seems beneficial after all. Steps required: Get Genetic Mimic Start at Canada(?) - Definately away from China/India Evolve Drug 1/Heat 1 Wait until first symptom Evolve Insomnia, Fever, Photophobia, Coma, Delirium, Psychosis, Acute Encephalitis Immediately devolve Insomnia, Fever, Photophobia. Immediately evolve Genetic Hardening Evolve Genetic Reshuffle 1/2 when you can afford them.
Ok, there is definately something here... I was unlucky and got two random effects (global warming, urban regulations - also, salivation mutated... fml) so I had to spend points on that and I did not have enough points to evolve Reshuffle. But, both Canada and USA had their research decimated, the Scandinavian countries were snowballing nicely and China was about to be obliterated. All those, without Reshuffle. It needs more attempts... This needs to be tested under fortunate conditions... PS. Actually, don't get Heat 1. Waste of DNA. PPS. Not sure about Drugs 1 either. The slower the plague spreads, the more orange DNA you get. You definately need Drug 1 to get Hardening and Reshuffle but maybe don't get it at the start. Maybe get it when India/China get infected.
I think you need Drug 1 as well if you're starting in Canada, otherwise USA won't be infected enough before you get first symptom.
And starting in Canada requires heat 1 to likewise infect the hot countries. Tried the method without heat 1, infected cold countries nicely and to a lesser degree USA and China, going nowhere with India, Eygpt etc. Then the evolve/devolve reduced infectivity rate below death rate and I killed all infected 1.2 billion, before the cure became 100%.
The thing is, that the first symptom will pop-up a short while after you get the "more infectious than the common cold" message and the chances of reaching that point without having infected China or India are astronomical. In fact, that would be a perfect alignment of circumstances for getting NAZG. It's not about killing a lot of people fast, it's all about killing the right people first: USA, Canada, Sweden, Finland & Norway. If those five are effed up, I'm pretty sure that we'll be getting NAZG. There are other rich countries as well but they should be infected already by the time Scandinavia gets fully infected. UK, France, Spain & Germany serve more or less as bridges between the Americas and Scandinavia.
Hmmm, was that under decent conditions or did you have annoying environmental stuff happening randomly? :S PS. Maybe we should add a transmission to the recipe. Let me sniff for any reliable ones...
