Another having trouble with fungus. I do like that they're quite different but I haven't quite grasped what is making fungus so difficult. I find it weird that I can wipe out an entire country completely with fungus while not managing to infect even one person from the neighbouring countries. I'm guessing there's a strategy here I'm missing.

    Anyone have any fungus tips?

I've gotten close by pouring DNA into transmission and the fungal spores abilities, but I can never beat the cure. Like I said, my DNA always stops ticking up somewhere along the way and I just watch helplessly as humanity finds a cure.

I am still having a very difficult time with the fungus stage. I have infected almost the entire world, but by the time the death rate get going...the cure is there and I lose. I have tried this stage at least a dozen times...I'm starting to get a bit discouraged, honestly. As a result, I haven't been playing as much as I used to...

I got incredibly lucky with Fungus but I beat it first time on my iPad. (on normal at least. it did beat me on on my iPhone twice before the iCloud unlocks opened it up)

Started inTurkey, my tactic was to keep the symptoms low, coughing and insomnia only, and pumped loads of points into avian transmission and water resistance. It started to slowly spread to neighbouring countries, and every so often i gave it a kick with fungal spores to help it along.

    Hope that helps

That has been my strategy, as well. At what point did you start pouring on the deadly symptoms? I feel like I have waited too long and it doesn't kill fast enough before the cure is complete...

That depends on how you like to play. Personally, I like to wait until all countries are infected to some degree, then add rash / inflammation / skin lesions / necrosis to start killing while simultaneously increasing infectivity, then upgrade cough / sneeze / immune supression / organ failure / coma / paralysis after the "whole world infected" message pops up.

Other people like to lay low for even longer, waiting for the "whole world infected" prompt before unleashing death, and going for something like cough / sneeze / immune supression / organ failure / coma / paralysis / something-something all the way to insanity, since necrosis doesn't help much if the infecting is done.

Also, how is the coughing / insomnia thing working out? I always thought that getting any symptoms besides coughing would get you noticed, so I usually don't bother with symptoms until I'm ready to get the ball rolling.

Doesn't seem to get noticed, definitely flies under the radar like coughing.

Not sure exactly how well it helps infection. But the very idea that everyone is already completely exhausted and tired before even knowing they have to work on a cure. It pleases me. BWAH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA! DIE YOU PUNY TIRED HUMANS, DIE DIE DIE!

ahem. Sorry, got a bit carried away.

If anyone is still having trouble with Fungus, let me throw in an observation. In fungus, we've already established that waiting is key. One of the top reasons people lose at the fungus level is because they run out of DNA points and get overrun by the cure.

If you're the patient sort, though, you can save a lot of DNA points by cutting out things you won't need. For instance, I always start in Saudi Arabia. I find that I can usually avoid spending points on Heat Resist and Blood/Livestock Transmit (maybe 1 in Blood), since whether or not I spend anything there, the slowest-to-infect country is still going to be Greenland.

I tend to take a minimalist approach to transmission when playing fungus, just getting:
    Air Transmit 2
    Water Transmit 2
    Drug Resist 1
    Cold Resist 2
    Genetic Harden 2

Which is enough to get a modest infection pace going. Then I hit fast forward twice and just wait, poking bubbles as they come and devolving any symptoms besides coughing (and apparently insomnia doesn't get caught either, I hear?). Once the last country is infected, I start throwing my deadliness around, since fungus is the same as any other plague once the countries are all infected, prioritizing the Necrosis and Immune Suppression lines. Without Blood 2, Drug Resist 2, Livestock, and Heat Resist, I usually have 100-ish DNA points and can get 2/3 high-level symptoms:

    Rash
    Inflammation
    Skin Lesions
    Necrosis
    Anemia
    Hemophilia (bleeding skin combo)
    Cough
    Sneeze
    Immune Suppress
    Organ Failure
    Coma
    Paralysis

Just sort of working my way around and making sure I don't get too deadly too fast. There's room for the DNA re-sequencing one, too, if you want.

Once you get used to the idea that fungus is going to take a long time no matter what you do, you can cut back on the rush-y abilities.

Every tip that works for Fungus also helps for Prion, BTW. It's similar, at least on Brutal. The innate abilities for Prion don't seem terribly effective (either at slowing the cure or preventing detection), so you just play it ultra slow.

If you infect the entire world first (every person, not just every country), you can usually kill people fast enough if you just get to Total Organ Failure. That means if you're impatient you can be a little spendier on transmission methods. Again, it's up to you, but when you're gonna be waiting around for a long time, it's better not to take chances IMO.

I'm actually struggling a little with bioweapon, since it's such a fine balancing line. Tips?

Gah. I can't do it. The fungus stage has officially beaten me. I don't seem to be making any progress whatsoever - always left with uninfected countries while the cure builds up. Tried it so many different ways and it pretty much always plays out the same.

Same here. Blocked at fungus. Excellent game anyway, but the difficulty is weird. First game, bacteria. I had to play four times to pass. Then virus, easy, first try. Then fungus, and I'm nowhere near the solution after five times, I just can't spread in enough countries.

The #1 tip I have for fungus is BE PATIENT! It's not a speedy level, you HAVE to take your time with it. Don't bother with the spores unless you're trying to get to an island and it's the last one you need, or something like that. Stockpile your DNA, then drop it all into deadly symptoms after you've infected EVERYONE. It takes a while. Don't forget to sell back all your resistances once you've infected everyone for extra points!

Just played the fungus stage. Infected 100% of the world. Accumulated many DNA points and got the symptoms going. I was amazingly patient during the process. The cure was significantly quicker than the death rate. WTF? I LOVE this game, but I am feeling like my eradicated disease at the moment. I don't want to cheat and unlock the stage; I just want to win after trying the same damn stage at least two dozen times now.

When you infect everyone on fungus, have a save before you start dropping symptoms. If you screw up with what you pick, you can give it another shot, and play around with resistance, etc.

I passed on my second try, because at first I did not reach 100%. The key is to have the proper symptoms for death and also insanity thrown in there. I killed everybody with the cure still stuck in development (42%). In fact this level is like bacteria except that last longer before everyone is infected.
While virus was a fun rush!

I'm considering tweaking fungus slightly in the next update. What do people think?

    make it the last level.
    That's enough.
Maybe it's the most difficult. So make it the last so people will try harder.
