The missions for "Special" housing and decor are way way over priced.
The mission "Great Interiors" awards a Glass House, which is a house that holds 6 clones and uses no land, but the mission requires 100u and 56M coins! For 100u I could get like 20 land and almost 2 Shiny Towers, and I could get 14 surprises with 56M. Total rip off. These missions are just utopium and coin sinkholes to reduce the amount that early players were able to hoard. Purely for bragging rights.

Also, all coin and utopium missions are repeatable as many times as you want, so they aren't worth doing at all. I mean a 2u reward for 3 Tier 5 animals? No thanks.

If anyone is interested I can pull the list of all missions from the game. But it will take me a while to reformat it into a readable format (for example, when a mission requires a specific job or animal it is listed as J-129 or A-27) I need to go through the Job list and Animal lists to convert their index number to a title. Let me know if I should bother with that.

Here is an example of what it would look like:

    Mission Name: WONDERLAND
    Type: Unique
    Reward: Musician Gene
    Buyout Price: 100u
Requirements: Walrus, Carpenter, 20u, Rabbit, Chocolatier, CAT, Bat, Writer, Dodo

I earned it. It's been a long time waiting for this update :) so I have just been collecting utopium every day. I can get the 25u from trees in about 30-40 minutes of tapping (I have 37? trees), plus 1-2 from the mine, plus a few more from hearts. I'll also watch a video at the TV station for 1-2u, but I accepted no other special offers, and I didn't buy any IAP (other than the original enterprise upgrade).

At first I upgraded every building in my city to max level (12u each), but after that I just kept collecting. Unlike some other players, I stayed with one of each type of house--a row of identical stadiums doesn't "feel right" in my city. I actually spent some time arranging buildings and paths to create logical neighborhoods (e.g. library, university and school of magic on one block, an "arts district", a research park, etc.)

Therefore, by the time the update hit yesterday, I had 820u and ~1.2 billion coins saved up! Plus, I had already bought 40 spare land and 12 empty shiny towers waiting for new clones, so I just spliced away! Every new building was accelerated for 4u (beats waiting for a day) and instantly upgraded to level 5. I also spent 120u on the 7th heart, 100u for the
    Hitch Hiker
gene, and even 100u for one of the missions (won't do that again). So now I'm down to 308u after the spending spree yesterday!

Well that would be great, of course. Although, all I really want to know now is what animals are required for the Team Names mission. I'm curious if I can safely use up one of my lions for another mission.

And I agree, the cost for astroglass housing in missions is way too high to be interesting.

EDIT: This was in response to TRB4's post, just to clarify

I'll echo what TRB4 said: most of those missions are way too expensive. Not knowing what the prize actually was, I tried most of them at least once just for the experiment. For example, I think the
    Astroglass Plaza
cost me 100u, but it only increases spirit by 6, so that doesn't seem worth it. But in retrospect, I'm glad I have one of those because it will look cool in my city. :)

I think the best approach for many of those special items is to hope to get them with the daily spin at the casino. I don't think the mission cost is worth the return.

The high-value missions are obviously the ones to unlock new genes, so they should be top priority. But after that, I suppose what else are you going to do with all those animals? Even if you use up your precious tier 4 or tier 5 animals for a mission that merely returns utopium or cash, you don't lose it from your checklist (it shows up as "x0" for the quantity. So you might as well use them for something. There's no other benefit in keeping hundreds of cats and dogs in your animal shelter....

This may be old news, but I also noticed that you can change which couple the heart is next to in a residence by clicking on the clone on the right. So, for instance, if the heart is showing up next to the couple in the middle, but you want to move it to the couple at the top, click on the clone to the right on that top row and the heart will move. I did a little reconfiguring and put my mayor/mechanic in a Shiny Tower. I don't know what the algorithm is for when hearts appear at specific buildings, but I figured there was a better chance in a 6-person building than a 2-person house.

    Mission Name: TEAM NAMES
    Type: Unique
    Reward: Sports Star Gene
    Buyout Price: 100u
Requirements: Duck, Bull, Tiger, 20u, Eagle, some amount of coins, Buccaneer, Wizard, Cattle Rustler

I can't figure out how coin requirements are coded. For example the 56M coins for the GREAT INTERIORS mission are labeled as M-5, where as the utopium requirements are easily readable 100u is labeled as U-100. So it seems that the money requirements are being pulled from a table somewhere else, but I can't find it.

This is fantastic news! That means that you only really need to optimize 1 couple per house! I might do this after I fill up all my houses.

Does anyone know what triggers a rebate when you relocate a clone from the Hotel? So far it seems pretty random, and sometimes I get 2U back when it only cost me 1U to put them there!

Aaaaaand... I may have spoke too soon. It worked for me a few times, then didn't work at all. I am able to move the heart around a bit within a residence, but seems more random than I originally thought.

You can move the heart simply by exiting and entering the house. You have a 1:3 chance of it landing where you want it to, if it doesn't, just try again. It seriously only takes like 5 seconds to get the heart on any of the 3 rows. Like I said, just put 1 "matched" couple in each house and you can get all gold hearts.

Thanks a bunch, now my Altar is looking very luxurious with a bronze, silver and golden plaza surrounding it.

    Btw, 2 more questions I had;
    1) In the Hotel, when looking at a particular hotel guest, what does the green-ish button in the top-left do? (right next to the arrow back button) It seems to be some sort of tube with an arrow upwards in it?

    2) Another "what does this button do?" question. In the gene pool, when looking at a particular special gene you haven't obtained yet, what does the circular arrow in the top left do exactly? Nothing seems to happen when I press it.

    1) It is suppose to return the clone back to their original job, but it seems that it is currently broken.

    2) I have no idea what that button does. Perhaps it hasn't been implemented yet, or it was used during testing, but they forgot to remove it later.

    1) the button actually allows you to send away a DUPLICATE of a clone. So, if you have 2x police officers, you can permanently send one of them away.

    2) the refresh button there is a fail safe in case the gene is not awarded to the player for some reason.

Where are the new missions at? Does it come with the Utpouim HQ?

Could anyone with access to the code of the game check how the odds of all the items from a surprise are affected by the number of golden hearts?

If this is something that isn't easily deduced from the code then pardon me, I have no idea what it would look like myself.

I've looked through it, no mention of golden hearts at all.

That's... strange. You'd think those golden heart do something...

They might, but not everything is listed in a format that I can read. A lot of things are handled inside of the actual app (it is named Utopia by the way) I can only view the .plist files inside the app folder, I can't actually decompile the apps code. The other possibility is that golden hearts have not yet been implemented. Yes you can earn them, but do they do anything? Some people claim that they increase your odds of high tier animals, but that could just be coincidence. Perhaps we'll need to wait until the next update before they actually have a use.

Thanks for the reply. Someone here posted a list of percentages for various things (like the casino), so I thought you might be able to see how these change whenever there is a golden heart in place.

Perhaps Ivan could tell us whether or not golden hearts are actually doing something yet, in 1.3. I seem to get more animals (and higher tier animals) when I have a golden heart.

I was the one who posted the odds for everything in the update.

I also just got a golden heart and only got a tier 2 animal :( so I can't be certain whether they work or not, but I would wager no. I would love it if someone could try to do all gold hearts and list what prize they got. That would provide some good indication that they work or not.
