    Once I have enough "spare" utopium piled up, I plan on seeing if I can select specifically for same gender housing. I've also noticed that you can get all of one gender in the arrival center. I'm wondering if, with a sufficiently constrained housing availability, how far I could move the gender balance from 50/50.

    See, Ivan. This is what happens when we run out of achievements. We start making our own.

    I've messed around a little with this and ran into trouble when not being able to delete people that are the first of their profession.

    I was wondering if there are plans to add different type of housing... in terms of design? My army of manor is starting to take over the city!

    In regards to the same sex pairings and such; I noticed when looking through my buildings that there are some same sex pairs; however each building seems to have 3 makes and 3 females regardless. I dunno though I'd have to check them all.

    Excellent new that we'll be getting the patch this week. Hopefully the dating agency and a few other buildings will have their hinted functions activated. :3

    EDIT: will those of us who've already made the hotel and used it get the "mechanic sequence" that is being put in for the first visit? Or is that just like a tutorial to explain how the hotel works?


    I'm pretty sure it was intended to be on time; since Ivan mentioned a few days ago that they'd submitted it a fortnight ago. However, apple is taking their sweet time.

    Combined two clones to create the Preacher, but the Astro Church did not appear. She's now waiting in the hotel to be assigned, and has been for days.

    Is there a way to fix this? Thanks!

    Yep, I assumed you were joking. Still seemed misplaced even in jest, and kind of associated with the slimier side of human nature (racists/homophobes, etc.), in my opinion, so I therefore suggested you direct your teases at the game's designers where they seem to belong. And, yes, I did read your post about the same gender pair, which is interesting, so clearly that can happen, but doesn't counter the clear implication in the quote I shared from the dating service that the pixel people seem intended (by game design) to be housed as mating couples, which in turn seems to imply male/female. With only a couple exceptions, my houses seem so hyper-ordered in that male-left, female-right pattern that it seems engineered rather than coincidental. I could be wrong though, which would be nice from a human diversity standpoint...and if you're trying to manipulate housemates to spawn gold hearts.

    I looked in my houses and indeed most of mine are also ordered male-female, with only a few exceptions.
    Most notable exception I found was a male-male pair (assistant-architect) that still produces a golden hart (so it would seem that only love counts in Utopia :p oh.. and your profession of course ;) )

    I could only find a few identical pairs in buildings that were filled using the hotel (I think, since they're new houses), and as far as I could see the overall distribution is still 50-50 male-female. My guess would be that fresh clones, as suggested in an earlier post, indeed arrive in alternating order.

    Still, when moving inhabitants around using the hotel they seem to fill up a new house left-right (from top to bottom) regardless of gender I think, so theoretically it should be possible to get more of one gender than the other. It would take a lot of time, effort and utopium but I don't think it's impossible.

    Idk how many people are doing the low lvl casino strat, but here is my update

    Im lvl 9
    114/135 land
    44.6% spirit (all from astroglass plazas)
    1072 cps (stacking taverns) for a spin every 7min48sec
    64 clones in astroglass housing
    have 16 trees (7 are utopium blossoms)
    have 125u atm no real need for it
    have 2 Shiny Towers and 15 Rocky Mansions still, working on getting all astroglass housing before getting further in the game.
    70/210 genes so far

    none of my houses are set up for golden hearts, don't know if that maters yet

    anyone know if they are going to up the spin cost next patch?

    I started a new game recently and noticed it was male/female almost entirely. A few houses are female/male, and I think some of that has to do with what gender may have been still available in the Arrival Center.

    I have not seen any instances of male/male or female/female unless I arrange them that way by using the Hotel.

    Here is my stats so far:

    - Level 8
    - 78/210
    - Land 140/140
    - 55 residences (15 are AG; 40 are Rocky Mansions)
    - All residences generate a golden heart
    - 12 trees (10 are AG; I deleted one to get back 1 land)
    - 546cps
    - 99u
    - 50% spirit (25/24 all from AG; I deleted the parking lot to get back 1 land)
    - 457 animals (only need 1 more Tier 1, 1 more Tier 2, and 1 more Tier 5)

    I am somewhat stuck right now, as I am still trying to only make Golden Heart pairs in my residences. I need more 4 or 6 person residences which are harder to come by in the Casino.

    I have been using u for land through the Church and for special genes (Socialite and Foodie so far).

    Sexism/Homophobia in Pixel People

    I had a same-sex couple fairly early on in the game, and my thought was "well, that's totally in line with the great job the devs have done NOT being sexist or racist or homophobic."

    Things that have impressed me:
    * all professions are available to both genders
    * professions are grouped thoughtfully, e.g., Housekeeper is in Production (not maintenance)
    * character artwork stereotypes are equivalent for both genders, e.g., Socialites both have big hair, Historians are both frumpy
    * female characters don't show their gender with big boobs

    I think the devs have done a FANTASTIC job of making this game clever and enjoyable without resorting to standard tropes.

    As for males/females in housing... *usually* clones available for splicing come in with at least one of each gender in groups of threes, so placing them in housing is likely to reflect that. Admittedly, I have not checked this, as I am not OCD. I would, however, like to thank all you wonderful OCD folks out there for figuring so much of this out!

    In closing, I have a friend who is OCD who insists "I'm not OCD. I'm CDO, which is OCD alphabetically, as it should be."

    My apologies. "Heteronormative" is an old in-joke from some of my college friends, and apparently the "joke" part is a little more "in" than I had realized.

    yeah i might use it to use fewer hearts, not going to progress in the game gene wise till i have all my housing in astroglass, i need a lot more animals i spend most all of them to get money or u

    need 3 tier 1, 4 tier 2, 1 tier 3, 4 tier 4, 7 tier 5 with no golden hearts

    think the research center is the place to dump this extra u for now

    After closely reviewing the Church/Casino strategy, we will not be changing the strategy.

    The reason is simply this:

    1) It costs 80u to get 10 land via Church/Casino. At that level 9, it costs 245,000 (with 50% spirit) to upgrade land.
    2) Casino spins cost 500,000 at low levels. If you spin the casino 100 times, you're expected to get ~40u and ~140 animals. Assuming 9 animals = 2u (via the Missions), that's ~32u. So, we can assume that 100 casino spins give you *enough* utopium to expand. Hence, it will cost you 100 * 500,000 = 50mil, to gather enough utopium to get 10 land.

    You can complete the game at 260 land (assuming some trees/decor and all shiny towers).

    The total cost to expand to 260 land is: 662,187,500 coins with 50% spirit.
    The total cost to Casino/Church to 260 land is: 50mil x 23 = 1,150,000,000 coins.

    Of course, the other benefit with Casino/Church is that you have 0 need for Residence/Decor/Tree (as you can get the AG variants of each). So assuming you have ALL AG buildings, the Casino/Church would require only 158 land to complete the game.

    So, finally, the total cost to Casino/Church to 158 land is: 50mil x 12.8 = 640,000,000.

    Which is almost exactly the amount if you went the normal expansion route.

    A possible objection:
    - You can get U from other sources! Trees/Achievements etc
    Reply: Yes, this is true, but all other players get this benefit too. Sure, because of AG stuff, you don't spend on Shiny Towers, Decor or Legal Loophole. BUT, you still have to spend on Special Genes, Heart Upgrades, Tech Support Upgrades. So, maybe you'll save some utopium using this strategy. BUT!! The numbers mentioned here HEAVILY rely on the fact that you have to convert almost all animals you find for utopium. Which means you'll have to spin EVEN MORE to complete the Special Genes missions. This balances it out

    Conclusion:
    The tipping point for Church/Casino is at around 300 land. After that point, Church/Casino starts to become increasingly more beneficial. This is A-OK from our perspective as the Casino is still extremely luck based. You may be stuck at points in the game where you'll need residence/U/animals and an unlucky streak stop you from progressing for a long time.

    ADDITIONALLY, there are further features that will be in that will again tip the balance back in favor of Land Expand. For example, there will be a buff in the upcoming patch that will allow your spirit to go pass the 50% cap to 60% while the buff is active. Reducing the expansion cost even further.

    So, nope, we're currently not seeing the need to make the casino/church strategy harder.

    I'm a little further behind in my own casino/church game...

    I started over, and got the Dreamer right off the bat, which was nice.

    - Level 9
    - 59/210
    - Land 108/110
    - 27 residences (0 are AG; 25 are Rocky Mansions; 2 Shiny Tower)
    - 14 trees (0 are AG)
    - 195cps
    - 43u
    - 9/26 spirit, but will be going down as I reclaim my cornfields to build buildings.

    I was originally going to save u entirely for the research center, but I think it may be wiser just to spend the u on land expansions to help move forward with the game. (Seems like the rest of you are doing this and that it's paying off well.)

    A also feel that my casino luck blows. I've had ~20-30 spins and only 1 special building.

    Between my two games, the Level 9 strat is more fun, but the other games feels more sandbox-y. (**With the issue that I feel I'm being forced to unsandbox in the name of advancing.)

    I still think removing land requirements is the way to go in this game.
