Whoever is playing in that first gif is in 8th place on lap 2 of 4..is it Patrick Boatman? love the look of those ice shards dude.
Putting the final pieces in place for the class-S progression, touch-ups on various menus then I'm throwing myself in the official trailer as final preparation for the final beta wave. From there, it will be some more touch-ups, adding game center stuff then release. We're getting there!
Haha, it's meant to represent the sunset reflection on the river, but that interpretation is interesting. Was thinking about putting Arizona-style' rocks ' in the distance. If that works, we might manage to stick more references.
its an arcade game, anything is possible ooo that would be cool. Have little wild west towns and such. Any plans on adding moving objects in the backgrounds? Aside from the crowds? The backgrounds look amazing either way (really love the art style), just wondering if you guys plan on implementing it or not. Then again I have a feeling adding too much movement would take away from the current art style & in that case I'd be best not to mess around with it. I bring this up because I just had the thought of having some cowboys riding horses in the background. Or monkeys swinging from branch to branch in a forest type setting Have them move the opposite direction from which the boats are moving towards. Just an idea
That's true. As long as it's not a downer. Yeah I've thought the same. Having a little saloon, this kind of things. We'll see how it goes. Good question, I did not really have plans about it. In the usual cycle, I grow tired of a level and find that something is missing before trying to make modifications/additions. I'll have to think about that through the final polish pass.
In relation with the implementation of the best lap scores on Game Center, right now we're not registering best laps when they were done with the use of a speed boost power-up. In other words, picking-up the power-up helps you in race but disqualifies that lap for best laps/Game Center. Just checking if that felt ok for you guys.
Is it planned to not register the best lap with a boost or a glitch? I feel if the speed boosts help win a race that race should also count on GC..just my opinion. Grabbing that powerup to squeek past the opponents in a hard race and then not getting a best time feels sort of like winning but not getting a trophy. End result is deffo your call but thought I'd post my thought anyway
That's true but anyone lucky enough to grab 3 speed boost on a lap would end-up on the top of the leaderboard? My assumption was that players preferred skills-based leaderboards instead of luck-based ones. It's good to have another point of view on that. The training-only idea is another possible path. I must admit that this question is a bit tricky. Is there any best lap leardeboards on games like Angry Birds Go?
On AB Go they have a score system(breaking blocks, crashing into opponents, & the lap time smashed together as one). They have leaderboards, based on score, for each individual race, but its displayed on their own servers not GC. On Asphalt 8, same thing. Each race has an individual leaderboard composed of best lap times & best completion times. You can also download a friends ghost to race. Real Racing 3 has it perfect imo. Each race has its own individual leaderboard composed of best lap times & completion times. They have a time trials section where you can choose a range of selected tracks & cars. Each track has its own selection of cars that are based around the same class/rating. Only one lap and your car has a running start (it starts you way before the starting line, so you have time to max out your speed before the timer starts). You can also download a friend's ghost to compete with in TT Since you guys are a lot more limited compared to these big companies, I'd say to just grab a little of each concept: -Rename the "Training" to "Time Trials" -Each class should have their own specific leaderboard in the Time Trials -Limit it only to one lap If you want to overachieve the whole idea, which I dont think is nessesary at all: -Do the above, & on top of that: -Select 4 favorite tracks, each boat class has its own track -Allow you to race your own ghosts in Time Trials -Add a leaderboard specifically for each race in the cups Just some ideas I'm throwing out there, but the point I'm making is that I don't think it'll be best to mix both the Cup times and Training times. Keep their leaderboards separate or only make Training have a leaderboard.
Thanks for the wrap-up! I agree that it's not necessary to merge race times and trial times although the hope was to unify the structure and maximise the leaderboards competitive aspect. The idea was to have 15 leaderboards, one for each track. This would mean that each track would have a class associated, with its corresponding boats. Times performed outside those parameters would not be submitted to GC. Gonna have to think some more about this matter. Anyhow, GC won't be enabled before release so we might have some time to test a couple of schemes.
I'd suggest limiting it to the training mode, and possibly a limited pool of boats, as there are quite a few variables in terms of powerups/abilities and boat stats (ie, getting ammo is the same as a speed powerup with the speed boost ability). Also, Monument Rally sounds fitting to me
