Yeah, but honestly - Card Crusade content is about the same size as world 1 from Pirates Outlaws. - Card variety is way smaller and with less intricate mechanisms - Characters play way too similarely (Compared to what I've unlocked so far in this game)
One thing to note is that the TA review doesn’t even mention the IAPs. They seemed to be reviewing the game played flat out without having made any IAPs so not sure adding the booster into the equation would change their review. They actually suggest “unlocking the characters and/or chapters based on difficult achievements instead of gold”. Truth be told if this game had been $4.99 without the gold and repute unlocks and no IAPs (except maybe additional characters?), it would be a 5-star game for me.
The dev is just giving back what was originally in the doubler IAP (before he changed the text AFTER people bought it). He isn’t adjusting the economy of the game (ie. lowering gold/repute for unlocking of other areas) at all. Those reviews still are completely correct as written. Heck, neither review even mentions the doubler.
I do not agree at all. When I bough the Booster, I clearly understood what it was doing. If some got mislead, I don't think that was intentional, they modified the description to avoid this error. If it was intentional, they would have left it there and let the money come in... The problem with the review is that the game was not really reviewed. It spoke about some general features of deck building games and then jumped at the Gold/Reputation problem. Then again some general features that could apply to all games of the genra and again about the Gold/Reputation...
Whether intentional or not, that he had to change the description at all means people like myself thought it was there so it certainly wasn’t clear enough. I would not have bought it if it were clear. So at least to me this is rectifying that issue. I already got a refund on it because of this. Was going to rebuy it if they made it more fair to progess on repute (which even with the doubler are painfully slow) but guess I should just cut my losses at $.99 and move back to the more premium experiences in the genre which are abundant.
they're not going to adjust any IAPs or in-game economy??? refunded me too... and a single star on the appstore (does it work also after the refund?)... but my opinion may change in the future
How can you say that they are not going to adjust any IAPs when they just did -_- And about the in-game economy? You don't know that... Why wouldn't they adjust it? You seem to forget that when you release a game, you have to guess and gamble with some decisions. Then when the game is out, some people are ok and some aren't. You can either ignore them and continue with your own decisions or you can listen to them and try to improve your game but this requires careful tweaking. Here we have a clear case of a young team of developers which has created a nice and polished game and is looking forward to improve it. People got problems with Gold income? They changed it. Some were wondering why we couldn't ignore the cards rewards after battle? They changed this too. So the idea now is to get a refund and not playing the game until it magically gets a new update that will please everyone? How are they going to work on the game if they don't get any income from it?
I understand your standpoint except for one thing - Rating the game 1 star. Come on, the game is not a scam. 2-3 stars, sure if you're not satisfied with the progression speed (Gold/Reputation) ... but it's not a 1 star game.
no, it's not, you're right... but if there is one thing that i can't stand, it is precisely when devs try to make money in this way, for that reason i love premium games, and remember that the term "premium" is a desease of this modern days, 10/20/30 years ago it didn't exist, games was just... GAMES!!! edit > as books are still books, movies are still movies, comics are still comics, etc...
I have to fully agree with you here. When I pay for a game, I expect, .99 cents or not, that I am going to be allowed a certain level of access to content in the game. When IAP is included in these purchases, and it turns out that the game is actually built like a F2P title (all tho no where near as egregious as the worst offenders) the majority sentiment (check the iOS Gaming subreddit) is that the IAP in this game makes it feel like an F2P experience, not the premium experience one would expect when PAYING for the game in the first place. Progression is locked behind steep requirements that encourage the purchase of a doubler to achieve reasonably paced progression. The average gamer, ie: the ones that arent on this thread, are not going to want to grind hours and hours and hours just to unlock characters or the next level. Whats sad is that there are clearly a lot of passionate people that want to see this really meet its potential. The game is very solid, albeit the lack of even basic attack animations feels a little cheap to me, but it does have the ground work to be better than the glut of card battlers on the App Store. I think what really needs to happen is Slay the Spire needs an iOS port so we can have the real thing and can stop settling for second rates. There is a real opportunity to have an excellent card battler here, and there is clearly a passionate group of gamers that feels this way as well.... it has to be stated however, the in-game economy needs a serious tune up. Otherwise I dont see this one sticking around for the long haul. I wont ask for a refund, as you can tell effort was exerted and the devs do deserve the support, but my criticism stands.
How can you stand comics being released on a monthly basis, having to pay several times, rather than having to pay only once to have the whole story ! OK, fair point - that's a choice on your end. But it's not like you were not knowing about the fact that the game was not following a full "Premium" model but something in between.
This is I think the problem with this game. You can't really pull off being in between. Your average mobile gamer isn't going to go hunting down forums for extra info on exactly how a pay model works, they're just going to see a game they paid for (even if it's just 99¢) have a bunch of stuff that's normally in the free games they play, and feel ticked off. I have seen this literally hundreds of times. You either have to go full free to play and really be equipped to handle it properly, or just go premium all the way and know you won't get millions of downloads but that you'll get a higher price per user and generally will have a smaller but more engaged audience. I think so many of this game's issues could have been ironed out ahead of time with a beta test from the community here. It feels like we're going through a live beta test right now.
sorry but i disagree with you this time, you can't know how bad the paywalls are until you buy the game and play it for at least half an hour, it is misleading at the start... then you realize. look, i have no problems to spend money inside games (i.e. bought all expansions and boost packs on Ascension and Talisman, just to name a couple of expensive games, and besides they're DLCs, not just IAPs), but it is precisely the model of PO that bothers me, lot of gold + repute to have a new character and areas??? 2000 for change the character appearance??? come ooooon... regarding comics, you have more than one option there, if you don't like monthly issues, then wait for a paperback, a collection, or even an Omnibus, you don't have to buy them right away... we have not any choice here, not even the old appstore "lite" system that gave us the choice to try and then buy or not the full experience (unlocking inside that version or buying the full app).
The amount of repute you get in-game makes sense thematically. You get a lot more if you end the run on your own terms (I.e. ending your career after defeating another well known pirate). How good of a pirate are you really if your boat sinks in the sea because you forgot to repair it or if you get taken out by two nameless thugs on an island in the middle of nowhere? I haven’t been able to put the game down since I got it and have over 1k repute without the doubler. I bought the explorer just now with gold earned through gameplay alone (mixed feelings so far, he does so little damage comparatively). I have played about 11 hours according to my phone (though I’ve fallen asleep with it on once...).
So are you insinuating that part of being a pirate is difficult progression? I get where you are coming from....but these arent real pirates....this is a game. A game people shell out money for. When you pay for a game, you expect a certain product in return. You've admitted to putting 11 hours into the game. A vast majority of people are not going to put that much time into the game. It's good that it works for you, but this approach is going to back fire with the majority..... as it clearly is at this point. After 11 Hours you've unlock a SINGLE CHARACTER. That is more than the entire play time of a majority of games.
I bought the original booster iap at the beginning thinking it had x2 the gold. Will I now have to also buy the upgraded booster or will the gold x2 automatically be added to my original iap purchase?
I had the option to get the character long ago. Only did so last night because I didn’t want to unlock a new map yet, because the new map is like an entirely different game, with new enemies and events (apprently, based on what I read). I wanted to learn a new character vs enemies I was already familiar with. However, I think some people are flat-out playing this game wrong (based on the game design, not just my own opinion). Here’s an example: I have a general feel for how a run is going. If I defeat a boss but don’t feel confident that I can defeat another, I end the run after that boss and start another. This rakes in a great amount of gold and repute. If I were to continue, I would waste 15-20 minutes for no reason and a worse reward. Personally I think ending a run early is a GREAT mechanic, but one not many people are utilising correctly from the sounds of things. How many roguelikes have you played where you KNOW your run is doomed, you won’t get any additional rewards out of it, but you’re forced to see it through to the end anyway? For context, I have an Instagram account where I post a new game every day. I play a LOT of games. And yet this is the one I have come back to every night.
