Xp and reputation doubler is okay, but indeed, doubler should probably increase gold earnings. A full completion of the first world (3 levels) provides 500 gold. To unlock an upgrade (4000gp) , you need 8 full completions . That’s a lot of dedication for a game that’s been paid + IAP. The good thing is that the game is *great* so it’s fun to play. Honestly I’d probably have preferred a business model where gold / reputation is less scarce and you have to buy additional worlds/characters for real money - the progress feels way too slow. Which is sad .. once again the game delivers a lot of fun
I wonder if this is down to this effectively being a triple currency game. First couple of times I read the description of the “booster,” I walked away with the impression it doubled gold. It was only on a third or fourth reading that I twigged it was doubling two currencies (exp and repute!l) but not the third (Gold).
Xp unlocks cards Repute unlocks upgrades / worlds / characters Gold buys upgrades / worlds / characters
Personally I would want a gold doubler as well since quite a lot of things in the store is purchaseable with gold with repute gating the purchase which I’m fine. Now waiting anxiously news from the developer if they would lower the gold cost or give us the gold doubler in the bundle then I will jump in. In the moment, enjoying the game with the second char - sword master which I have found a way and beaten 3 stages last night. Tonnes of fun!
If you can unlock everything in the game for only $10 or so then it can't possibly be a "money grab", right?
Well, for one thing you can’t. The repute alone stops you from doing that. And the again the doubler doesn’t double gold, which I was under the impression it did when I bought it. I’m tired of arguing about this. Myself, several others and even the 148apps review docked the the game for the way this is all setup. There’s too many different currencies and barriers to stuff. Takes way too much gameplay to unlock stuff. It feels like a F2P game because you make so little progress. As 148apps says, it COULD be a great game. As it is, it never will be without changes. There are other games in this genre that don’t have all these convoluted systems to unlock content (Night of the Full Moon, Card Crusade, Silent Abyss, Endless Road to name a few). Why settle for a game that nickles and dimes you and makes you feel like you aren’t making any progress even when you spend money on it. I’m going back to playing Silent Abyss.
And I'm tired of reading the arguing I think the point has been beaten to death by now. Some people don't like the pay model/progression and that's perfectly valid. Other people don't mind it and enjoy the game, which is also valid. Those who aren't feeling it can either get a refund or stick this one in a folder for a while and see what happens with updates, as the devs did say they'll be making some changes. No reason to keep harping on about it.
Well, Card Crusade is quite simple and maybe too simple. I played around but didn't stick for too long... Night of the Full Moon indeed has a way to unlock the whole content with just one IAP. But their strange feature requesting a connection to play the IAP DLC made me drop that game too at one point (I am still following the app just in case this changes). Silent Abyss is definitely a good game and I am still playing it. I have unlocked all the cards and upgraded each one of them and now the only thing I have left is to try-hard and solo finish with all the characters. Not sure I will really do that though. It seems to be difficult to measure correctly the right amount of difficulty and the amount of time needed to unlock all the content the game has to offer. On one hand, if you can unlock everything immediately, all you have left is to increase the difficulty of each playthrough. And on the other hand, if you want to keep the player unlocking new content for longer time, you might upset some that wanted everything right from the start (or accessible in a quicker way). Either way, people will argue about the system and will abandon the game at some point. Personally, I don't mind grinding in a good game. I am not in any rush, I like some challenge and it would be nice to see a game that will keep me occupied for several months instead of weeks or days... The whole content (apart from the Admiral) can be unlocked without any IAP and that's a rare thing nowadays. Sure it will take some time but I am playing to play, not to unlock everything, get 100% of achievements and probably delete the app afterwards. You will progress little by little (maybe not fast enough for certain) but everything is achievable. I am not even thinking about unlocking a new area yet because I still struggle to finish the first one in a consistent way. I also have to unlock all the cards in the first chapter and every time I do, I am really surprised by the diversity of each card. It really creates new synergies and changes some strategies I had before. This really feels rewarding in the long run and it keeps me coming to see what surprises are waiting to be discovered! At least devs are aware that some people are having a hard time to accept the currency system and they did say that they will adjust it. Not clear if the rewards will increase or if the requirements will decrease. But hey, they are working on it and the game only came out last week!
i really agree on helping devs purchasing IAPs (only if they are rational), in fact i've bought al dlcs on NOTFM, extra characters on Silent Abyss, and many many more... but seems to me that there's something bad here. imho there are too many unlocks, and also too confusing (i.e. to get a character i need gold, repute, or both??? and if it's both, seems really delusional!!!), and as if this were not enough, now the devs are also changing the initial conditions: i've also seen the $2.99 doubler including both gold and repute, so i wonder why did they removed the gold thing??? maybe was too generous? not commercially viable? ok, so the game is really good, i was loving it, but when someone begins to do these dirty commercial moves, i lose all interest in it and also in all their future releases. sorry...
yeah, but the gold removing happens after that post, so i would not expect great benefits for us if this is their first change
It never actually doubled the gold you earned, it was a text mistake. Maybe it once had and they made a mistake of not editing the description at the time. For what it’s worth, I think the doubler doubling the gold as well as the rest would be the solution to almost everything.
I still think the amount of repute you earn is also way too low even with the doubler. I’m sure I’ve played this game for at least 6 hours and only have 259 repute. It takes 500 to open the first area and 2000 to open the third area. Maybe I suck but it’s still infuriating to see so little progress.
or maybe was a move to sell it better (a text mistake? mmmmmmhhh)... unfortunately now i'm doubting everything.
A feature that I would really like to see is iCloud syncing. With the slow rate of progress, the last thing I want to do is have two separate games going on my iPhone and iPad. However, I am having a lot of fun playing. I am not very good at the moment- only managed to beat the first boss twice, but I would agree the rate of progress is a little discouraging.
Tempted! I love Night of the Full Moon and bought their IAP since it’s an amazing game and made I felt the way they handled the IAP as new characters felt very clean and straight forward. I also bought silient abyss but haven’t bought IAPs yet but feel their IAP is likely similar to Night of the Full Moon. I’m an old school gamer from the days of Pong and now that I have a 16 months old daughter my gaming life has changed and almost ended completely. Not that it’s a bad thing as being a Dad is so amazing... In many ways I am grateful to have my iPhone and iPad as potential gaming devices. The lower cost to buy games allows me to likely buy several games a year although I have limited time to play since I grew up and paid up to $59.99 per game. Now I can spend $60 and a backlog for years! That being said I am still a “hater” of non-premium games and in particular IAPs. I do understand and respect the challenging world game companies have especially smaller and new studios since this is a job and passion for them. I’m going to buy the game since I like seeing the developer engage with us the gamers. I think the .99 is fair. Although I normally would pass on this since o am still trying to understand all the IAPs and would normally feel that iap characters are one thing and booster or buying gold feels like the kind of games I normally skip. Good luck to the developers and now another game to add the endless backlog! Cheers!
Agreed, that would be great. I'm playing on my iPad at home... and can't play over the phone to continue progress when on the subway.
