Wow! This game flew under my radar. I loved Happy Street and this seems so much better. I downloaded it to try it out and (1.5 hours flew by) I'm hooked!

Feel free to add me on GC. Tag is: twispby

Game seems to have a few bug issues.

Sometimes it's unlocked things before I've reached the appropriate level.

And after my last win in the tournament the trophies weren't added to my total.

By unlocked things, do you mean buildings or boat parts? Do you have a precise example please?

Nope, cause it turns out I'm dumb!

The level up issue was because I didn't realize there was a difference between my overall level (settlement level?) and my main characters level.

    Doy!

The tournament points was also my bad. After a match it shows how many points you gained and your new total. I didn't realize it was totalled already and after the match thought I wasn't being credited, but I was.

    Double doy!

Loving the game, only wished I could increase the amount of overall stamina up from 5. Is there any way to do that other than using flooz? I'd be open to paying for a permanent bump.

Good to know it's not a bug, but maybe we could be better at explaining things in the game?

If you buy flooz you will get free energy every day.

First and foremost, thank you so much for sending me a copy of the app prior to the US AppStore release. It's really much appreciated. :)

Alright, here's some feedback. Get ready for that wall of text!

Pirate Power is something pleasantly unique. It brings a lot of gameplay concepts and, even having minor bugs here and there (more of that later on), the experience is pretty good.

Since I think this is a really great game with a lot of potential - despite not being able to play it anymore since the last update, due to obvious reasons, I hope -, I'll start with the bad points, and then move to the good ones.

    Bad points:
First, the (hopefully) most notoriously obvious one: The waiting game (aka "pay to play now"). I don't think I'm alone on this - in fact, I don't know anyone who might see something good in that feature other than the companies themselves - when I say opting for freemium is like throwing half of something's potential in the trash can. Especially when you say you've been working on the game for 3+ years.

I personally prefer to pay a great amount of money a single time and then enjoy my product freely than being stopped from my experience - especially for long periods of time - by ads, limit number of actions, etc. The game has a lot of battles to offer, from side quests appearing all the time, to great bosses who require a lot of grinding and effort in order to defeat and move on with the story. So, limiting the amount of battles you can have per time is really a hand break on the middle of the course.

If you really want to go freemium - even if just to countermeasure the great possibility of having the app cracked if it was a pay-once, paid app -, then at the very least, offer a solution to those who don't want to do microtransactions. Maybe a pay-once feature (vip lvl 1?) that never removes the ability to watch an Ad in order to fill your energy meter?
I understand that this project wasn't easy, fast nor cheap to. complete, and you wish to, at least, make some profit out of all the effort behind it; and I'm sure there are solutions to please both sides here.

Another thing I didn't like is the inability to choose or customize your hero. The time has already come when mandatorily having a stereotypical white, blond male as the hero is really annoying.
Character customization in a game with rpg-istics aspects should be a priority. Besides, I believe many people around the world, from different cultures and genres are going to play this game. You did such a great job on Happy Street regarding this subject. Please, don't disappoint them in this aspect! :)

Besides that, the other bad/annoying stuff were the minor bugs, the excessive (excessive!) difficulty that is to recruit more people to fight on your side, the loss of a battle energy point when being defeat (especially by tough bosses), the need to stay connected to the server while playing (although I believe this was done for security and anti-cheat protections,it's still annoying not being able to play offline), and small things alike.

    Now, for the good part!

Have I said that I love this game yet? Well, I love it!
Beginning with the music and sounds. This part deserves special attention, although I might be suspect to talk about it. I simply love Romain's work on this. It's incredible. His music is magical, and once again, he knows exactly how to make the right feeling fit perfectly in a game. I love every aspect of it. The pause between BGMs while not in battle, the lack of concern in those idling, sweet ambient tracks floating around every now and then! I never get tired of it. I left the app open even when not playing, just to have the OST surprising my ears through the seagulls and sea sounds.

I believe I'm one of Romain's biggest fans, and I think you couldn't have chosen a better composer for this project. Thank you for doing that!

About the art. It's really pretty! The most stunning features are the time and weather pass ones. I love all the details on the map, ship parts and characters, the colorful palette, and the chibi-esque style. There's really not a single point I can complain about the art. You guys keep doing that on your great style, in that flawless manner!

And for the most important part, the view gameplay-wise.
I have a passion for games with lots of different things to do. So, having this great variety of possibilities in Pirate Power hits me in me heart. It's REALLY nice to be able to take care of stuff at your home, as well as manage shops and my hero's pockets, evolve characters, discover treasures, fix friends' ships, upgrade my own ships, and on top of all that, have the pleasure to take down lots of enemies In a pretty interesting story. Really well done job on this aspect. I simply love all the stuff there is to do in the game.
I passed hours and hours playing it, especially planning my ship designs, which was really bad for my pockets, since I had work to do by the time. :p

Combat wise, I like the mechanics. They're simple and fun, And although I think this has been made on purpose - and if so, good job! -, I haven't yet discovered a main ship, main combo or main group of characters to go full automatic in battles. Most main battles must be well thought before fighting!
I also like the game tips on how to defeat an enemy in case you lose a battle.

Storyline: So far, I've been enjoying it very much. The way the game introduces itself to the player is really good. The tutorials and tips aren't invasive and are really helpful, as they show up at the right time to the player. This prevents any situation where the player is overwhelmed with information, and ends up forgetting what they've been told. So, great job on that!

That's it for the review part. Now, for the bugs report:
I'm using an iPad Air 2, iOS 8.1 Pirate Power v0.9.522

    #1: Friend's info screen
    http://imgur.com/YpMXxbC
    http://imgur.com/OCcjKuA
I'm not able to see my friend's info. On top of that, when I close the error pop up, the buttons on the bottom right corner duplicate. They keep duplicating as long as I keep closing the pop up.

#2: Minor typo on dismantle boat pop up
    http://imgur.com/VrviWiE
I believe that intrrogation mark shouldn't be there? ;)

    #3: Can't turn notifications on
    http://imgur.com/97JtT7A
As much as I try, the notification marker will be back off when I leave and re-enter the settings screen.

    #4: Layout glitch
    http://imgur.com/QubEPEB
As the piece is locked, the "locked" pop up is over some of the piece's attributes. In this case, it's covering the "weak to lightning" one.

    #5: Crusade unplayable and exploit
    http://imgur.com/QRXaJDN
    http://imgur.com/vm1iDwu
Can't play the crusades, except when doing the quest. And starting it will auto result in victory, giving me the rewards for it.

#6: Not really a bug, but...
    http://imgur.com/hpKNyvH
Those fishes in ice blocks remind me a lot of Captain Fishblock, a game by Oliver Joyce which I also worked on. ;)

I hope you take this review as kindly as I decided to write it. Again, the game is unique and very good as is right now, and I see a lot of potential in it! So I hope this feedback has been somewhat useful.

    Couple of questions:

    1) I bought some flooz and am at VIP 1, how do you receive the five free daily energy?

    2) Is there a reset timer on the ads you can watch for free energy? Or a set amount you can get in a day? So far it seems sort of random to me, but I haven't been documenting my playtime closely!

    Thanks!

    1) Every day at 4pm PST, you should receive your energy!
    2) There's no limit, you can watch as many ads as they are inventory.

Thanks a lot for the great feedback, I'll make sure to pass along all the nice words about the music to Romain! :)

Regarding the switch to f2p aspect, that's a choice we made 4 years ago when worked on Happy Street, and I can hardly see us come back to p2p model.

Customizing your heroes is something we talked a lot about since you can do that in Happy Street. But heroes are strongly recognizable so that when you fight against them you know what skills they have and what you can expect. It's more of a game design choice. We actually have generate/customized characters but only in the cities.

And thanks again for the nice words, we have fixed most if not all the bugs you sent us.

Hi, about what I said early about the arena. I use all my ships to use less tickets, watch the videos, and never even let my tickets hit 15. I make it to rank 9 in the beginning but slowly continue to drop after that. That's why I think it would be a good idea to make it the last tier reward. Also, with the tiers being the only way to receive keys (along with not being able to get to top 8) it seems pointless to continue in the arena once I've reached the last tier. Just something to think about.

Also, I noticed you changed the limited time chests to pay real money only. I dislike that. I don't mind freemuim games where you can get everything if you spend enough time/watch videos/offers. This is really discouraging me from playing as I was trying to collect all the characters.

I do enjoy the game a lot. It's just easier to point out what I don't like then the things I do. I hope you take my suggestions/opinions into consideration.

@aaalyssa What do you mean by "That's why I think it would be a good idea to make it the last tier reward". Yeah, we will probably add more tiers.
The chest is more of an experiment, we'll see what we do with that.
If you have more comments, keep them coming, good or bad. :)

I mean adding 1 characters token as the last tier reward.

I'd echo aaalyssa's comments! Adding a single character token for the tier 1 tournament reward would allow people to make some progress on recruiting characters the majority otherwise can't get.

    I know I'll never rank top 8!

Also noticed the lack of flooz chests... Sad face.

I unlocked my first chest using keys received from tournament and got 8 wood! That was pretty lame! I understand it's just a material chest, but maybe the bottom of that barrel should be dandolo wood or something? Material below that is pretty plentiful with all the grinding you have to do...

Anybody have a build suggestion or strategy for Kina: mission 5?

Those Xenotec gals are cleaning my clock pretty hard and I'm not sure what I should counter with. The hint recommends the machine gun... Which unlocks after mission 5... :p

As always feel free to add me (GC: twispby). I'm not sure what the tavern thing is for on marketopia, but I've sent out invites and I'm not sure if anyone has responded.

Got it for the token! :)

The arena chest can offer dandolo wood as well, the pirate wood is actually one of the most needed resources, so it's good to have a bit of everything. 8 might be small though, especially that those chest are not given as frequently as before. I'll look into it.

The xenotek tip is a bug, we'll change the tips.

Re the taverns, you should see a letter if your friends have replied. Filling the tavern with heroes will bring a decent revenue in coins.

    Woo! Worldwide release!

Question: does visiting friends islands leave gifts for them? I've seen packages at my home island containing coins, or some wood from friends, but am unsure if I'm doing the same for them.

Man, I loved Happy Street when it came out. Still have it on my device, but can't get back into it. Maybe this will do it for me. :\

Repairing your friend's boat is what send them a gift. This will probably change to a more traditional gifting system in a future version

I haven't played since very early beta, will this game save across on my iPhone and iPad?
