The age old IAP question, the fact of the matter is that some players don't want to figure out a difficult level and would prefer to buy their way through it, so you give them the option. The game is pretty generous with toes and there are no pay walls that force you to buy them.

The first hero is free and the others can be purchased with IAP. Someone mentions the prices earlier in the thread :)

I am a definite believe in "make em grind for it and some will pay" IAP. I usually grind, sometimes pay. I dont like "you dont need that, its extra content or for people that want things easier" IAP, especially in a pay game.

Cant fully explain why I view these as so different, but I do. Not paying $3.99 for a game with this type of IAP.

So errr... if a game forces you to either grind or pay, you may pay; but if one is generous enough and only gives you options for extra contents or boosts, you won't pay.

It's an incredibly polished game, but two things turned me off when trying the game for the first time.

    1) Many of the sounds that the tower-dudes make are too similar to the KR series. Is it an homage? Same sound team maybe?

    2) The artwork for one set of island natives that I saw was questionable at best. I'm not the most PC person you will find, but I was disappointed to see the dark-skin & bright-red-lips natives. Yeah, I found it distasteful.

lol he must like a bit of torture. I'm on the 6th level now and loving it, the visuals are ridiculously sharp on iPad 3. Haven't felt the need to use any IAP and found the game balance to be challenging but fair. Definitely recommend it for people that are on the fence, its very fun and polished game. :):)

It is unfortunate so much of the discussion on Touch Arcade is derailed by IAP comments. I can't tell is developers or players are more to blame for that... but if you can't beat then, you might as well join them...
Extra content is often dubious. So many times it's material that probably should have been included in the first place and often times it's unusually priced. In this case the pricing also seems disproportionate, one IAP character shouldn't be more expensive than the core game itself. My impression is that sometimes "extra content" is what previously constituted a normal game feature in "the good old days" but has become excised for increased profit, warranted or not. I haven't played Pirate Legends TD yet, in part because I agree the "extra content" IAP seems questionable.

What's about the game itself - I liked the graphics and it was on my list to download tonight.

Yet, as soon as I've seen the $3.99 and IAP I had to fight my desire to download it. Then I thought I have to buy it because I want to support indie devs. But then the NO man has won, I'm sorry. I mean, I can't say its greed. I've spend many kilobucks on my iTunes account already. It's just how I feel about that. And I guess many people think like that too - that's why despite Apple's featuring the game is neither nearly in the top 200 nor it has reviews on iTunes yet.

I might be giving it another chance when its price drops, yet I'm not sure I'll know about that unless TA posts an article about the drop.

So, tonight PVZ2, Gold Diggers and Ninjas Stolen Scrolls (well, it's with IAP, yet just 0.99$ and I just like this type of games).

I hope my opinion was useful for the devs.

    Holy thread derail...

This is a great TD, but the levels are flying by.

Please please tell me the Devs plan on adding more levels (excuse me if this was discussed earlier)

    Thought from anyone please?

    Thanks!

We're done with this detour. I will clean up this thread and start putting people in time out if they persist. Stay on topic!

What I find enjoyable with these types of TD games are being able to replay the game with a different hero. If only one hero is available and the game is short (from what I've read) then the $3.99 price is very unappealing.

I'm surely going to add this to my watch list because I do enjoy visually-new games. But I won't bite until it's around $1 since only having one hero will ultimately persuade me to spend $$ on a hero. [this is all speculation - if the game is fun, and the devs provide more levels for free - like KR has]

WIth plants vs zombies 2 just releasing, I won't have any itching to buy this until I see a sale. Hopefully by then, the devs will have allowed more than just one hero available for free.

The game developers mentioned in the upcoming games section that it'll be awhile before this game goes on sale, the developers also said that all the Hero's can be unlocked through gameplay (anyone know at what stage they unlock at ?) I see the sensitive referee has struck again. Has anyone unlocked a hero Yet IF this is true?

Is this playable on iPhone 4 or is it too much of a strain? Should I wait for my iPad to arrive instead? :)

Its a Universal App with iCloud so if you get it now it'll save all your data and you can pick it up on iPad later :)
You just gotta turn on the Cloud in settings.

    Plans for content updates

A few people have mentioned content updates so I'd like to give a run down on what we have planned for Pirate Legends over the coming months. There are no hard dates yet but I can you an idea where we're headed.

    - Definitely more Flying Aces (heroes) are on the way some paid some free. Lots of weird flying contraptions choppers, blimps... etc :)

    - We're working on some new bonus campaigns with very different themes. There are some hints in the current campaign that indicate the direction we're going (level 4 is a big hint). There are a lot of civilisations that have treasure and we plan to have the pirates steal from most of them :D

    - Loads more achievements +30 in the next few months.

    - New relic powers are also planned, more sea monsters and other badness to summon.

    - The Pirate-Pedia is going in the next update so you can check all units stats and stories.

We'd really appreciate any feedback you can give also, we're planning to support the product for a long long time and we want to keep making it better, so if you guys would like to see something in there just let us know on this thread :)

I want to see no more consumable IAP and a gameplay calibrated without that ;)
Like the good old full price game :)

    A must have TD!

Got the game and played it like crazy for the past 2 days, the experience is amazing and I just love the graphics, for sure one of my favourites this year.

A bit easy at first but the difficulty bumps up afterwards...and that Kraken super-power...me wants moooore!!!!

Strongly recommend the game, can't wait for more games from Super Hippo.
