Somebody telling you to search into a binary file for some data to overwrite makes you feel a hacker ?

Please mister hacker can I have an autograph ?

  2. Any game that has pinchmedia tracking installed will be able to give you the data on jailbroken / cracked copies of the game being run, since pinchmedia collects that data and displays it on the main data page.

For example, my game [app]GumDrops[/app] has 20852 unique users since I added the pinchmedia tracking, with 1999 (9.59%) of them running on jailbroken phones and 760 (3.64%) running a cracked version of the game.

This is for a game that has been free for 99.9% of downloads via iTunes.

Unfortunately I only added PinchMedia tracking in the 3rd update, so I don't have statistics on what percentage of copied were cracked ones before I made the game free.

I would imagine that since the game saw very low sales, and was cracked very soon after the initial release, that the % of cracked copies before I made the game free was a lot higher.

That whole "buy my app so I can feed my family" business is a load of bull. That just temps pirates even more to get the game illegally just for the lulz.

So someone being honest with how he needs some money to really feed his child makes you want to starve the baby ??

I don't find this funny. Not funny at all.

And I really hope hackers are at least not as brain-dead as you're telling.

What do those people think ? That gamedevs have magic purses with unlimited bucks ?

Come on just ... do you realize you are talking about people not caring about child starving ??
I don't care if this popup is dramatizing, but that man's situation may fuc*ing be true.

Well I'm technically a hacker and I don't steal apps, so I don't like what you're saying in that post.

    What didn't you like ?

    1) Some guy says that hackers don't care about a child's health.
    2) I say that it's really dramatic if those people are like that.

Do you mean you do support child's starving ?

I hope no one has posted this yet, but here's a nice report from Pinchmedia.

    Thank you, great article :)

    So, considering this :

Hacking an app to try-before-buy is clearly a myth.

Well, kinda contradicting what I poster earlier, but occasionaly, if I'm on the fence about an app, and there's no lite I 'obtain' it to see if I will like it, and, more often than not I will buy it. If I don't buy it then I delete it.

Of course, I do fully understand that most people who jailbreak to hack apps don't work like that and am all for somehow shutting down the game cracking/hacking community.

In my eyes, the devs, who are using PinchMedia to track users are much worse than people who pirate apps. Another interesting read.

I actually find it a bit invasive, even though I understand why.

Edit: I just read that article and am disgusted. I feel violated. Jezus!

Thankyou for bringing this to my attention. Thanks to my jailbreak I am allowed to block those programs from collecting data now.

Please explain me what is harmful in the list provided in the article :

    - iPhone's unique ID :
you don't need Pinch Media to have this one.
For multiplayer it's even a vital info to differenciate two devices.

    - iPhone Model :
    this data is generic.

    - OS Version :
    this data is generic.

    - Application version (in this case, camera zoom 1.x) :
    this data is generic.

    - If the application is cracked/pirated :
Harmful, yes. But for the dev. Dare to say it's not a dev right to know who is stealing his product.

    - If your iPhone is jailbroken :
lol, it's just because jailbroken OS put themselves a different name ID than original Apple OS ....

    - time & date you start the application :
unneccessary, but not harmful at all.

    - time & date you close the application :
unneccessary, but not harmful at all.

    - your current latitude & longitude :
You did know that iPhone have an integrated GPS, right ?
And that most of the games use it to localize you ?
It's not like it couldn't be turned off.

    - your gender :
    - your birth month :
    - your birth year :
Unnecessary again, but how can it be harmful when you are the one who permitted to diffuse that info ?

Oh yes, simply checking these infos is much more a crime than turning a dev to bankruptcy, for sure !

Please, don't take random infos for granting you important positions.

Does it bother you that most websites including this one probably collect all of that information and more every time you visit?

I haven't put any analytics on any of my apps yet, but we use them constantly in online retail and it is extremely important information to help shape what we present to customers.

    Just sayin.

Just out of curiosity, are pirated games more buggy? Because I read so many reports about buggy games here in this forum which I've myself never experienced. Without pointing finger to anyone, would pirated games be more buggy?
