The 2D version of the 3D tables looks great. I do like that new texture on the ramps of the Graveyard table.
Drool worthy. I can't wait. I really haven't been able to play anything else almost at all for the last week.
holy crap, is there a way to upload your scores in GC if you played a game non connected? I just had an epiphany on Nightmare and did more than 73 Millions. I wanna be on the leaderboard!!
I have a real pinball machine, firepower and the flipper response/speed is quicker than PD's but that's ok, there's lots more differences between real pinball and virtual pinball. In my appstore review, I had indicated it was either a slow response or a slow flipper speed so I guess your comment confirms its number two, at least, not as a port for as what some feel it just needs to be improved. Perhaps my memory is faulty, I'll have to replay the Amiga version to see if it had that too, but I'd swear its always felt faster and perhaps consider this: lots of people find it somewhat lagging; whatever the reason behind it, its not anyone's imagination (nor are you saying it is). I do understand that if you were to mess with it, I fully realise that would change the angles, ball speed, etc, so I know its not an easy fix (if you want to consider those who feel this is an issue as a "issue" that needs fixing). Whatever the case, one does get used to the timing, it's only a big issue for me when the ball really comes down the flipper lanes VERY fast and the odd time when trying to hit the far right lane, as you need to have the ball go near the end of the flipper. Not that big a deal for me, but perhaps a bigger deal for some others. I perhaps misinterpreted the response on your web site where I took it that one of devs stated the code was "theoretically" in the port. My apologies. http://www.cowboyrodeo.net/pbdreams/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=587
I'm afraid, at the moment, there isn't This might get changed some day, but first I need to figure out how to prevent making it easier to submit fake scores in the process. About the flipper response: I just played version 1.1 after tweaking 1.2 for several days, and I have to say there is a noticeable difference; version 1.2 is much more responsive.
I'm using credit card too without entering my real name and my bank doesn't have a problem with that. I'm guessing my bank is more lenient as long as the bills are paid.
Well the update is out! Adding quicker flipper response, a static view and also a 'classic' 2D type view. On flipper response, on my iPad 2, yeah, I think it feels more responsive. It's honestly hard to tell! The difference is very slight. But the flippers work and the game plays really well. The game hasn't been sped up at all, has it? It felt faster on a few games to me but could be totally psychological... Static camera looks and works great. I'd say most people will love this view. The flattened 2D camera also looks excellent on my iPad. One issue I had when first trying it was on Nightmare table, where the frame rate of the ball was really poor. Simply quitting and going back to the table selection seemed to fix that so don't be alarmed if it happens to you. That said, on the 2D view, when the ball is moving slower, the ball is noticably wobbly as it moves. Now I think that's simply the game and it's like that in all views but, for whatever reason, it seems quite apparent in the flat 2D view. Not an issue at all when the ball is moving fast and generally not a big deal. The 2D view doesn't work on my 3rd gen iPod Touch - the image is too big for the screen, meaning I can just see the centre of the table and nothing else! That issue aside, the new camera views are excellent and I suspect one of these new views will end up being the default for most people. Personally, I think I prefer the static view although it is kind of cool seeing it flattened down to more a 2D view. Great update!
Ouch, how did I miss this one, orthographic projection scale should be half for non-retina screens obviously. This will be fixed in the next update. Thanks
We know of this bug where the framerate drops mad low but haven't been able to figure what causes it - it happens very rarely! You don't need to quit the table btw, it's enough if you put the game to background with the home button and come back, that fixes it. Anyway, great that you liked the update! ,,juuso
Brilliant update! Absolutely love it. Quicker flipper response (feels way better) and the new camera options (both look fantastic). Thanks a ton. The best pinball game now is the best with some distance
This is a great update, many thanks. One suggestion, perhaps an alternate way to nudge via a hard shake of the ipad? Its very hard to move the thumbs to hit the nudge area, but nudging via a shake would not only work better, it would also feel more like real pinball.
I would even love to see that on the iPhone. Nice idea. You could toggle it in the options the same way you can toggle the view.
Found a bug, if the ball enters the top kicker hole at just the right speed (ie: slowly), the ball stays in the hole instead of ejecting as per the norm. Nudging the table almost releases it but it won't come out, i was forced to exit the table and restart. Too bad, i was having a good game. On the old flipper response issue, i find using the new 2d view provides the old amiga flipper response i was seeking, imho, i'm assuming here but perhaps the issue, at least on my ipad 1 model, is a performance issue when using any of the 3d views? I was very surprised at this since i am on record as sAying the iphone versions also had a laggy flipper feel to me. Maybe i am just getting used to the feel of the game? Anyway, this game really does kick ass, the best pinball game on the amiga is still the best pinball game in 2011 on the ios. The best compliment i can provide: after playing a heck of a lot of pinball dreams hd, its made the other competitors pinball games very "blah" in gameplay and especially via the weight of the ball, it just feels more realistic in PD:HD.
This is probably a bug in the original aswell as the physics is doing 1:1 what the original is doing It's just an optical illusion, even the 2D view is still the same 3D table, drawn in pure 3D like all the other camera modes aswell, just from a fixed camera position There's nothing the game is doing differently in the camera modes. Thanks! ,,juuso // rodeo
