Woh... got scared at first i couldnt find Striker on the ship list, til i tried swiping down Hit 4M on my first run, and i really love the high risk high reward mechanic brought by Striker a lot more than what Phantom offers. The risk involves waiting which allows enemies to throw out everything they got at you, while you charge up your lock-ons. Upon release, it basically sweeps enemies out gradually (coz of the Lv3 missile's mechanics). The final hit of the Lv3 missiles guarantees a boss kill. Striker benefits greatly with more targets on screen (mostly because of how Lv3 missiles work), but of course that means the risk is higher with thicker bullet curtains coming your way.
Yeah, well the seemingly-not-so-clear point i was trying to make was at least you didnt go with that box hive design. I didnt think Sapphire would take anyone to compare a stationary turret to a space ship especially when i said "strapped on."
Your design philosophy is all fine and good, but it's hard to shake off the "missiles everywhere" look. The Lv3 missile that shoots missiles reminded me of this gem from the Simpsons. Really, you could have made the cockpit a missile and it wouldn't have looked any worse. You were trying to make your point with an image of a stationary launcher, was I supposed to infer that this ship is better than a flying turret? I'll concede, if turrets were to fly they would not look better than this design.
Yeah I do play with sound and it helps a lot. And I do sometimes play with my phone on mute. PS3 controller, it's the exact same buttons but with the PS shapes. I kind of wish it went like this though: R1: speed boost (kinda like Assassin's Creed and Devil May Cry) Square / X: Special Triangle / O: Use power up
Regardless if you like the look or whatever, I can personally confirm the game play mechanics involved far outweigh cosmetics. It's risk reward play is quite a joy.
That's great to hear guys and really makes me (and the other half of Firi Games) warm inside, thank you so much <3 The Simpsons pic gave us a good laugh as well
I get your point, but that image did not serve any purpose. And I was obviously comparing this ship design to previous Phoenix HD ship designs that were decidedly unique, not to any other generic ship designs that serve as low level units in other games. This design falls short of the standards set by the dev team, and that's what disappointed me. Regardless, the new mechanic looks interesting but the lack of any new content in terms of new bosses, turrets, bullet patterns or backgrounds leaves me lukewarm on the update. However, I'm still looking forward to the next big game or major content update from Firi.
The ship design looks... but the concept sounds fun. I will unlock it when I get to my iPad 2 later...
HOLY CRAP!!! New ship!!! NEW HIGHSCORES!! I also (thanks to being early in finding out about the update and purchasing the new ship...) got a couple of achievements that I NEVER thought I would be able to get... including number one position in a country AND number one position on a continent. I'm also #3 in the world right now... woot woo!!! This was also just my 2nd game with the Striker. I'm LOVING it! Thank you Firi! =oD **edit** Oh yeah... when my MOGA gets done charging, I'm gonna check it out there... it's always so much different playing horizontal... but in a good way. Almost like a different game. =oP Hopefully it doesn't keep dragging to the left like it has been... =o/
Hah well you've earned them fair and square. I guess it's a perk of being an early bird Yeh the landscape-oriented controllers aren't ideal for Phoenix HD, it's simply a portrait game through and through. Curious how you like it though, now that it uses the pressure sensitivity of the directional buttons/sticks etc. Still though, flying from right to left, I can't get used to that
Yeah, just wanted to come back and say that with the MOGA controller, it plays PERFECTLY. No more drifting to the left without any control inputs. WOOTWOO!! Thank you guys, you rock so freak'n much! =oD
I normally can't stand bullet hell shmups, but this game is so awesome it grabbed me and I ended up buying all additional content. Can someone recommend what my next game in this genre should be? Cave shooters are a little extreme, but I am ready to dip my toes into something similar.
