Could have some kind of shield meter. Reflecting bullets wear down your shield, then you can only evade while your shield is down. --- I must say, this game probably has the most dedicated and loyal fanbase I've seen on the forums. If I purchase the full ship pack, does that include future ships as well?
Gosh dude, you shoulda seen me about a year and a half ago. I was one shmup hungry guy. I remember picking up Pheonix before it was HD... The gold old days of the first Danmaku, Lightning Fighter, and this one called Absolute Instant. I actually picked up Abyss Attack only a a few weeks ago and I've enjoyed that. But, it wasn't until I saw this thread that my shmup heart was truly reignited. This is definitely one of the best shmups I've ever played. Now, back to shmups
I was thinking maybe a touch activated system, but was quickly reminded of EMPs etc., so I thought that perhaps the ship would have a max capacity of reflection, then would have to do a short cooldown before it could reflect again
We're a happy family here that's why. The old shmup threads used to be great, until recently with all the flamewars in the Sine Mora and Abyss Attack threads. But there was a time, long ago when the shmup threads were the most interesting and civilized on TA. That is, until recently. Kind of funny how certain genres have different users. Seem to run into the same hardcore driving game fans in the car driving games, and used to be one happy family in the shmup threads, though that has changed recently. Guess some of us shmup fans love shmups, even though deep down, most of the games are very similar. This is one of the few threads that reminds me of some of the great TA threads, where everyone got along, and it was almost all fans, so it is good we still keep this thread going.
It's funny you say that. I've thought of a few ideas where using two fingers would work well to trigger a type of attack, but it would conflict with using two fingers to trigger Alpha Strikes & EMP's. Luckily at this point El just laughs at my ideas anyway, so no big deal
Wow, never realized that you liked shmups so much. I remember Absolute Instant. Kinda similar to the new trinity ship.
Figured I'd quote myself on this one. Is there still a possibility you could add a double/triple tap to activate the power-ups? Make it a setting though, so you're not forced to use it. The Corsair and Mirage were both added at the same time for the original Phoenix. I believe it was the Shogun that was the first DLC ship for Phoenix HD. (I remember buying that and the Online Pass around the same time). I could be wrong though.
A couple of months back I re-read the entire original "upcoming: Phoenix" and "Phoenix" classic threads (and quickly skimmed through this HD thread). It's amazing to see 3 years of discussion and progression with a surprising amount of names returning to join the discussion every now and then. As a developer, reading back the changes, community response and how we in turn responded to that is also an invaluable lesson for further development and communication. <3 The full ship pack contains all current ships but does not include future ships. We have no idea how many ships we will add and didn't know how many we would when we started this whole thing . Promising 'all future ships' will set some expectations which we are not sure we will meet. We add ships when we find designs/gameplay we deem cool enough to warrant a new ship and we do not want to force this process. Currently no plans though I will look into the 'playing with 1 hand' case again with my partner in crime. No promises for double-tapping but promising that we will consider it and possible alternatives! And, you are correct on the DLC/ship releases
I'm looking any new or good schmups I may have missed but the threads for most are terrible. This thread like the game is awesome every time I visit.
Just saw this game while searching the Internet, seeing as we're all shmup fans, hope it's not too off topic: It'll be getting a Kickstarter soon, but the game is Mighty Tactical Shooter and it's a turn based tactics shmup http://sockthuggery.com/game/mighty-tactical-shooter Though you guys might be interested
Turn based shmup? Blah. Us shmupers love constant action and craziness. I dunno about a turn based shmup.
