Working fine on iOS 7 on the 4S and I can see the new IAP as well. Don't know if I'm imaging it or not but I'm sure the game somehow looks even crisper now!
So, a COIN TRIPLER. Hmmm... I am diametrically opposed to the entire concept of having to 'do' things in order to 'place' the gameplay into its optimal state. I can only assume that after buying the CT that I will be able to afford most of the boosts on a more consistent basis, thus making most runs more even, as long as the prices of the boosts remain the same. Of course this is a better option than having to deal with consumables, since the CT would be a one-time purchase. Still, I will never like the disparity between those who get to play differently by paying extra and those who do not. That being said, you guys are some of my favorite developers, Phoenix HD is one of my favorite iOS titles and I am without a doubt one of your biggest fans. This puts me in a precarious position, where I would possibly be going against my principles to support you guys. Keep in mind that supporting you is obviously not the issue, just how I go about doing so. I will buy every single ship you add to Phoenix and I'll probably buy every game you do in the future; but how I spend on IAP is an issue I address with added scrutiny.
Well we considered the drones as Alpha Strikes and then put it on the 'probably never' pile, sorry if I got your hopes up Yeah the idea behind the coin tripler is that you can practically bypass the need for coin packs. I understand your inner conflict with regards to the whole coin system, but this is a free app and there is some way we need to pay the rent. This is currently the best way to do it and yes, we also had to swallow a few times before we started with the whole coin system. To be fair, I think we are pretty lenient with our system Nobody here got a chance to try the mysterious gift yet?
Ok El... The new update is ONLY available for iOS 6 and above?!?!?! Why?!?! I can't update anymore; I'm stuck at the latest iOS 5 version!!! Any explanation why? Can't you make it available for iOS 5 too? Or...if I tricked iOS into thinking it's the latest iOS 6 (I very well know how to do this), will there be any implications for my device and game? If possible, can you please make it available for iOS 5 again? I don't want to miss out future updates that comes with NEW SHIPS!!!!
Ah yes the update does require 6 or higher. The short answer is: we can't support so many different iOS versions. With support I mean, everything that it means to support a product, not just ticking a box somewhere. More elaborate: We test all versions on all types of devices. Adding another OS version means we have to keep an iPad and iPhone/iPod on that iOS version for development and testing. On top of that, we actually use functions for our game and UI that are not supported by iOS5. This is also how Apple sets it up, so I can say for certain that we will not support iOS5 for a future update either. We are always pushing the devices to the limit both in graphics and supporting the newest features (like Airdrop now). We have worked ourselves into problematic situations in the past trying to support all iOS versions (it's one of the reasons we had to make a separate Phoenix HD app). In the end everything you do is being held up by a handful of users that is still using an iPhone 3G (or whatever) and can't flex your muscles to truly make your product shine. So we are moving along with Apple, supporting all devices they're selling, including maybe the most popular devices that are still on the market, like the iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4th gen now. iOS5 is over 2 years old now and all devices that are capable of running Phoenix HD are capable of running iOS6*, hence we require iOS6. That said, I see you are running on an iPod Touch 4th gen (according to your forum profile at least), which is indeed a bit troublesome with regards to amount of RAM etc (I wouldn't be surprised if you experienced crashes in a lot of games/apps). We are looking into optimising a bit for this device for the next update. I hope this gives some insight into the situation and understand our stance. * The iPad 1 does not support iOS6, so will not be able to run the new updated Phoenix HD.
A flat payment method is a welcome addition to any F2P model, as bypassing consumables is paramount for any serious gamer.
Unknown developers like us do not really have the luxury of realistically considering every option. Without f2p, we probably wouldn't have been here anymore. (and don't worry, we do not have a swimming pool filled with money )
You guys deserve to be compensated for this masterpiece. There is no arguing that. I'm a HUGE fan of a developer getting their game out there for free for exposure and then having an unlock for the full game (Cordy, KungFu Quest), or loading it up with as many FLAT payment opportunities as possible, like how Phoenix does with the addition of new ships. If consumables HAVE to be there for extra revenue, it is always a good idea to balance it by giving the consistent and dedicated players (the ones who appreciate a clean gaming experience the most) an option to be able to avoid them. The one-time coin tripler is the first step taken since consumables were added to the game that addresses the issue of having to farm coins for a maximum run, or pay out. It's a somewhat happy medium and a step in the right direction for players like myself, so in this regard I'll probably buy it.
I understand what you mean El... I don't blame you all for that. Having a new release of iOS and only that many devices in your hands means taking out the oldest iOS you have out of the picture. No worries El! Does this update takes advantage of any feature that was only implemented in iOS 6? If there isn't, then theoretically this new update should run fine on iOS 5. Probably you and I won't know yet until we try. I could hack my device into thinking it's iOS 6. That way I can install the update. But of course the first step is to think of any potential problems that could pop up. Next time, I could even be your tester for support on iOS 5!
Hehe, I'm just passionate about being able to please everyone, so pardon my frustration from not always being able to Decisions have to be made. I would say the UI has your best chance of breaking down, obvlously we didn't try as we have no supported iOS 5 devices anymore. I can't encourage you to hack/jailbreak your device, that's all up to you. Obviously I can't support you with this process as we have no jailbroken devices either (assuming that's needed for this trick you have). Any special reason not to install iOS6? (argh, Coin Tripler still not available...wtf :< )
Well, now that the iOS 7 update is out, I'm super curious about what you guys we'll be working on next. Crossing my fingers for a delicious content update. I pray every night to the Gods of Roberti for ship #7. I beg thee, conjour thy magnificent powers and grant mere mortals their undying wish!
That doesn't sound so bad. Maybe I might give it a try! Can games that are made for iOS 6 and above be forced to run on an iOS 5 assuming I got past the installation of the game stage? I jailbroke my iTouch 4G at my own accord so yes, I can trick iOS into thinking it's iOS 6. Not sure what might happen if I made iOS think that it downgraded back to 5 later. Hmm...some people say iOS 6 runs slow on the iTouch 4G. I initially wanted to upgrade, but unfortunately now I can only upgrade to the latest iOS 6.1.3, which has no untethered jailbreak (Yah, Apple broke that jailbreak thingy ). Furthermore, I would have to re-configure everything from scratch. Making a backup of a jailbroken device doesn't sound very safe for me, so might lose some app data even. (Though can backup through other means, but not everything is always restored successfully) I'm just...not ready to go through all that hassle again after having gone through one traumatic experience where I had to completely restore the device (And after having done so, having lost tons of app data, decided to jailbreak). We make our own choices. I don't really think we should be overly influenced by others in decision making. Anyway, coin tripler IAP isn't quite up yet, so updating or not, not a lot of difference currently. Any chance of discounting the coin tripler IAP to 0.99? My account running out of money...
@Sumo: We're doing a lot of stuff, will tell you guys when the time is right, naturally. @Connector: No comment @FBI: Yeah I would assume that you'll lose everything once you update from JB 5 to legit 6. The whole hassle of JB just makes it not worth it tbh I was able to purchase the Coin Tripler, yay, I hope it works in other countries as well, if not, it should soon.
Hey El, my Firi account holds all my high scores right? So in any case I had to uninstall Phoenix HD, logging into my account after the reinstallation (Hence having all Phoenix HD data wiped out locally on my device) would still make my high scores show up on the globe right? What about coins? Would logging in on the fresh copy restore ALL my coins gathered over the years? I would like to take that risk to install the newest update on my iOS 5. Just that, well, I can't bear to part with my high scores and accumulated coins.
If you properly signed in to a Firi account in the Phoenix HD settings (your email address will be displayed on the button) it will store all your High Scores and your coins. You'll be able to restore your purchases via the 'Restore Purchases' button. Phoenix HD will always require you to play one round after a clean install before displaying 'Your Scores', so don't let that scare you when/if you get to that point (If you want me to verify your data on our servers, send me your User Identifier via mail([email protected]) or post it here. This can be found in your iPod Touch Settings->scroll down to Phoenix HD->tap to show the User Identifier)
That's cool El I'll tell you how it goes once I get the time to update and play! Btw, did anyone thought that the old Phoenix HD icon was better than this current one introduced in this update? I seem to prefer the abstract gold shadow of the Phoenix ship rather than the actual ship being shown there. I don't know. It just looks nicer... maybe because of the stark contrast between the ship and the red circle? I didn't pay attention to any other details so far though, so should be fine other than the ship. Any comparison thoughts? We should do a vote here perhaps
