Haha, I'm only teasing. The coins for the IAP are available, so, when in Rome! That score is great regardless of what you bought before the game started. I've never gotten that high and I don't think it's too feasible to do so without boosts. Going against those upper end bullet patterns without the Point Defense drone is suicide. I actually just hit 150,000 coins, ironically on Firi's fourth birthday. Maybe I'll play about 50 games in a row with all the boosts and try to get 15 million. Anywho, I think there should be a party to celebrate, and most definitely a new ship
Congrats on getting that score, it's really exilirating to get into top 100, and 14m is really high; don't let having used all the boosts get you down, this game is about choosing when best to invest in them, and the sense of getting it right is always satisfying It's not cheating at all, it's part of the game and theoretically you should buy all the boosts. However, In fact from your way of saving up to 20,000 each time it looks like you already have the hang of doing practice runs and making it count so you're already doing it pretty right
El if you add more ships to the game, how would you configure the ship selection screen to fit them? Currently there is no more room between the six icons already there. Ever think of looping the icons around the border of the red circle? That would look cool and would give you plenty of room.
Hmm...never actually thought the scout remaining bullets were a threat...interesting...probably I haven't reached high enough scores YET... The tip on overwhelming bullets sounds really useful to me! I usually panic like crazy and my ability to dodge goes down. Unfortunately, being a casual player, I haven't quite worked out my worst turrets yet neither....I shall get these sorted and try them out! Ah damn. I don't really use any single use boosts. I think I haven't played enough to accumulate them or have the proficiency to basically recoup most of my losses during gameplay... Haven't been sure about the order of power-ups for the Phantom. All I knew was that EMP was first. The rest comes mixed up, and health is last. Not quite sure whether I might agree to your order....personal preference I guess.
AMAGAD. I think i need to make a .gif of this segment. Mad skillz. Too bad about the fps indeed. I like how the PDD removes that mirv next to your ship near the end of that encounter did you spot that while it happened or afterwards? @Necrocat219. We are very intrigued by that error you receive on the scoremap at the end. Could you provide me some details on your carrier/provider etc? It would be great if you could mail your info to me at [email protected], thanks in advance! Hmmm, we really love a sort of 'landing pad' metaphor for that red circle. Hence the ship flying in when you switch. We have even tried Trinity-esque warp in/out effects when changing ships, but that didn't really work. That said, we try to keep the buttons neatly organized and we wouldn't want them to obstruct the center area. I think we'd try a double row in the current style, before moving down around the circle etc. The scout bullets not disappearing is definitely an aspect that you become more aware of at 'higher level'. It was a decision we deliberately made to give the scouts their own edge over the other ships. It's not possible to remove a turret from a scout so we thought they needed something extra. Especially when their fire rate increases and they start equipping boomerang turrets they become really tricky! The EMP is not that great as a last line of defense. Though it does clear all the bullets, its lack of destructive power means you will (most likely) still be in the same encounter.
Hmm which makes me also wonder El. How come after the Trinity was added the view of the ships in the menus changed to top-down view (I remembered in the times of Shogun, the ships were shown in a pretty cool front-side 3D view)? I mean it would be more cool if we see an alternate view point of the ships rather than that during gameplay at the menu screen (Uh, I mean for me I get to enjoy a higher definition image of the ship, but for the others, it's the same thing...) Heheh, you guys are also twice as old as my time with my iTouch.
@Sel At the moment I'm on my phone so can't the the part on the video yet, but I'll check it out when I get back. With the error message, I had never got it before, I got it when i downloaded the screenrecorder that I used; as it wasn't in the app store I downloaded it off a webpage, and to do so I had to manually change the date on my iPod to 2012, disabling the automatic date and time. As I left it on, it caused that error message, and returning to the original settings fixed this. You can recreate the same conditions by following the steps I did; follow the instructions in the description of this video (found the link by chance when browsing videos!), as far as I know there aren't any viruses, but don't take my word for it. Also can I ask, this is legal right? ^^'' www.youtube.com/watch?feature=relmfu&v=xXQ-TaOum5U
Oh I forgot to answer this: *both* Ah that explains it, thanks, no need for additional info on this No clue if it's legal, but doubt it if it requires you to change the date/time on your device.
@FBI Light Rock: Personally, I didn't find them to be particularly problematic until I picked up the Shogun and started practicing with it; I fell in love with it's ability to kill a wave before all the bullets reached the bottom through grazing bullets early, and the only ships that failed with were scout waves. I found that when I destroyed the scout ships, their bullets were often surrounding me so I had to avoid damage and focus on what I was going to do with the next wave, and so far that's my biggest problem with my gameplay on the Shogun. As you get better and further into the game, be really careful of the Brutes, the ships that fire two bullets that fire bullets sideward as they travel. Not very often but sometimes they fire bullets at twice the rate they usually do, and thats almost impossible to dodge with the second two cannons as well if you don't destroy them in time. I suggest that for now you just pick up the 40% extra powerup boosts, most games you should be able to make that back and the occasional extra EMP's might cancel it out. As you improve you'll gain more coins per run and so be able to spend a bit more each time And yeah, the section power ups is somewhat personal, I used to waver a lot on which power-up to pick up and I've been thinking of keeping the shield as my first choice. The only power-up I don't like is the one that fires straight ahead. As it often doesn't help as a last resort. @Sel Wow, that sounds great! I really can't wait for both any hinters about the new game? Aha, that would be amazing if you could make a gif of it! I might have a look then maybe you could post it on your twitter feed? Right, watching the video at that point I was positioning myself to remove as many of the mirvs as possible, and I was hoping that it would have removed that one earlier. I was preparing for the worst as there was 1 other bullet that the PDD could have removed, so I was about to shoot up down the middle until I could EMP again.
Damn... Sick skills on that video Necrocat. I wouldve choked and panicked on that much bullet curtains already
w00t! Just watching the video and reading on the tactics posts here got me my 5.9M run which is my highest score in PhHD, and it's with the corsair. My favorite thing about the corsair... Missile trails! Dood, what you guys do here is a bit inspiring to someone like me who's a total noob in these shmups
Well, you are starting to be one of the (what the heck term should I use...) active shmup posters lately (though for some reason some of the endless runner riff raff has somewhat seemed to have come into shmups lately, though this has nothing to do with you though.) So, I don't consider yourself a noobie shmupper anymore.
Really glad that the guide helped you! Just reading that left a good feeling inside me knowing that it helped! And that's after only just putting that to practice, I'm sure after some more practice you could definitely get better
I would just like to boast about the fact that I now have the number one spot with all ships in two different cities. Admittedly, I am the only person who has played in those two cities, but still.
My score cities fluctuate between Gainesville, Tampa and Orlando if I don't have WiFi enabled. I just started so I tend to score in the 300k range on the default ship.
@Paulos G: Don't be modest, you're among a good crowd here Next stop, #1 of the provence/state? @Joltrabbit: Your location is best determined using GPS. For devices that don't have GPS, or when Location Services are disabled, we use some tricks like IP-based location look up to be as accurate as possible. GPS is superior though
Er... I think i really improved after i read your tips. Just played with the shogun and got 5.5M too, and my old high score was barely even 4M. I'll try other ships and see how much my newly learned skills improved my Phoenix HD. LOL. Oh, and in all my high scores, i didnt use any consumable powerups. I think i can break 6 or even 7 million if i try to use the full loadout.
