I really must be losing my damn mind. I could have sworn that the last time I used the Shogun that there was a light blue hit circle surrounding the cockpit. WTF...

Yes! Particle overflow is up for consideration! Finally, I've cracked the FSB: Firi Suggestion Barrier  Timjen the Invisible is like, "We'd better start listening to this guy."

Oh, my bad, missed reading that one from earlier. But yeah, that would be just plain ridiculous fun! Like entering a Hyper Mode in DoDonPachi Ressurection or Break/Double Break Mode in Crimzon Clover, pure destruction and scoring! :D

Sweet! Will definitely be looking forward to it if it happens.
But would that mean an entire re-write of the leaderboards due to new gameplay right?

These kind of changes have a positive influence on the score, so no. Everybody simply updates and everyone has the same benefit :)

Don't hold your breath for the next update of course we've just released one!

Yeah, it would definitely satisfy the 'itch that needs to be scratched' feeling that I currently have with the Phantom.

EDIT: Wait! I have an idea! The Alpha Strike for the Phantom could be this concept! Ghost Mode AND Overdrive together! Someone pour a bucket of water on me. I'm on fire :D

That would would definitely be awesome and fulfill everyone's' dreams! And nah, I'd leave you alone, we'll probably all get more great ideas if we held the water back, heheh! :D

Having the particle overflow trigger a Ghost mode-induced Overdrive laser-fest is never going to make it into the game, so yeah, seeing something like that simply as a variation of Alpha Strike would be very interesting. It would be so awesome to use the Overdrive while being invincible and seeing the beam stay in color with the rest of the screen dark. Another idea for the Phantom's Alpha Strike is the toothpaste laser, which would simply be a slightly more powerful variation of the Overdrive beam in our favorite toothpaste laser form. Since we already have the Mirage's Nightfury laser and now the Phantom's Overdrive beam, I doubt we'll be seeing another ship any time soon that has a laser as the primary mechanic. Seeing it tossed in as an Alpha Strike for the Phantom would be great timing ;)

Yeah, thought that it would turn out to be something that we would only to be able to see in our dreams. And implementing a toothpaste laser similar to Raiden the series would be pretty interesting. I probably assume that the effectiveness or DPS of it would have to much greater than Raiden's as it turned out to be the weakest out of the 3 main weapon types (but easily the coolest though ).
And yeah, you pretty much covered majority of the laser needs for now in my opinion, real nice job I must say again! :) How about a ship with some sort of shooting mechanic similar to that of DoDonPachi's Type-B ship (the green helicopter) except make it shoot in the opposite direction when moving horizontally (Like Youmu Konpaku's normal shot in Touhou 9: Imperishable Night) but never exceeding a 45 degree angle? Just tossing ideas around~ :p

NICE! The most I've ever saved up for was just over 20000 in the week before the release of the Phantom, before blowing nearly all of it on the night of it's release from experimenting, heheh...

Yeah, I generally play bare bones, like how the game was before the Trinity update. I like all the boosts that are offered, but I don't like how none of them are available in the game unless you yourself put them there beforehand. The whole 'predetermined destiny' is even more of an issue with me than consumable IAP and coin packs (although it's close).

Hi all. New I'm just new in the forums but I've been playing this game for more than a year. Not really good at this game and I could only score about 4 mil with the corsair at best. Just a casual player but I know a good shmup when I see one and Phoenix HD is definitely the absolute best. Thank you devs for making such a great game and for updating it continuously. I bought every new ship and would insta-buy all other that would follow.

Now starting to get addicted to the phantom. :)

Ahh, I see. I usually play until I have around 8000-10000 coins before playing with purchases. It usually takes me some time as several games usually only give me around 200-300 coins, even having a long run advancing into the 5th area. I've never experienced the old Phoenix, always wondered how it's like playing first hand, only seen around 2 replays of it. And yeah, I know what you mean, an outcome that's sort of determined from what you pick beforehand right?
By the way, the old soundtrack which I found on Matthew Florianz's website for the old Phoenix sounds amazing and much more dark and tedious in a way than the current one. Although I really like the present one as well, the old one really sets more of an atmosphere for war or battle, the present feels more like it's for adventurous flying, or something, all in my opinion of course. :)

Welcome to the forum! Pretty new here myself as well hehe. :D
4 million sounds alright to me, all it takes is practice and hard work to keep on improving! Just keep on observing the bullets and find the most efficient method to dodge them. :)

I wasn't referring to the original Phoenix game. I was still talking about Phoenix HD and how there were no IAP before the Trinity update. That was around six months ago. If you glance back 30 pages or so in the thread, you'll see some responses that reflect this decision as being... questionable.

And yes, my issue with it is how I am able 'tailor' my run with what I 'choose' before I even start. If this were my game, the Point Defense Drone and Vulcan Drone would appear in the game as drops, just like every other power up and would last for a set amount of time. The Phoenix Wake would appear in game too and would act the same in terms of visuals, but you wouldn't skip twenty waves. Instead it would just be a type of weapon that would push you through a wave or two at most. The extra health, extra power ups and extra life wouldn't exist at all, and of course there'd be no IAP. A level playing field where you don't have to wonder who did what (or who paid with real money) to land where they do on the Leaderboards.

Of course this type of perspective is falling on deaf ears with the way games are going today, unfortunately.

EDIT: Oh, and does anyone ever do 'death' missions with the Shogun? I like to get really close to the enemy ships so I can use the electricity and try to graze as much as I can before I get my ass handed to me. It's actually a little game in itself, trying to maintain the electricity and graze. You really have to pay attention to what each turret is doing. It's insanely challenging and pretty fun too, although not for the faint of heart.

DOUBLE EDIT: El, have you ever considered doing a multiplayer for Phoenix HD? I guess if it hasn't been done already then it's difficult to implement, but it would be pretty cool to have two ships side by side. That would be some serious carnage.

@Sadistic: Thanks a lot! Hearing from long time fans really is a priceless motivation for us, so great.

@SumoSplash: Of course we have considered multiplayer! :) There's various ways to implement it and I think I mentioned it at some point as well (in the 150+ pages that is Phoenix / Phoenix HD :D ).
The only way real-time multiplayer would work would be in close proximity, so you can use wifi or bluetooth. Trying to rely on internet connections is really impossible at this point, especially with such a demanding game as Phoenix. Any form of lag would destroy the game and you would be surprised at how "crappy" most connections are. I mean, everything is possible of course, but we are still just 2 guys so we have to carefully pick the features we want to focus on. Which is also the next thing, Phoenix isn't about 'finishing a story', but rather at competition and getting a (localised) high score. Sure, there could be a 2-player Leaderboard, but we felt we should focus on the single player experience and gameplay.

There was a point where we considered a form of 'social', asymmetric, multiplayer. You would get help (think of a timed Alpha strike) from friendly ships that would be on a timer. More players in your direct vicinity/local leaderboard would mean a shorter timer. However, this would be rather complex to keep 'fair' and also questionable how much fun it is for how much work it would cost.

All in all it boils down to the focus on the strengths of the game. We chose the specialise in one direction, keep polishing and keep adding in this direction. There's a huge (for our standards at least) player-base enjoying Phoenix HD, so we are not looking to suddenly swing the game into a different direction, the new ships are already enough of a shake-up for most players.

That all said, we are doing new and different stuff, but it's not all reserved for Phoenix :)

Yes, the new and exciting stuff is for Phoenix HD 2 ;)

    EDIT:

My wish list for the next update:

-Alpha strikes based off the Trinity and Phantom.
-Green particle overflow dedicated to score when full bar is achieved for all ships.

    OR

-Green particle overflow fills a SECOND level of the bar (represented by the same bar, just a different color) that, when full, automatically sets off a super bomb that clears all enemy vessels on screen, or adds a second tier of power to the Overdrive beam for a brief period of time. This would be for the Phantom only.

A purpose for the green particle overflow is key, regardless of how it is delineated.

New Alpha Strikes based off Trinity and Phantom would be cool but I've got no idea what might they be. The ships are definitely unique, but mostly in terms of gameplay mechanics, not weapons. The Trinity's homing side weapon cannons are too much like Corsair's, the forward firing cannon is nothing special and the purple slicer after teleporting is too much like Phoenix's Alpha Strike. Phantom's main weapon resembles Mirage's lasers, while its projectiles aren't really special neither. It's going to be hard to come out with an Alpha Strike based off them.

The 1st idea for the excess green particles are feasible and good, but the 2nd one seems quite far-fetched. It's going to need quite an overhaul of the game since new mechanics kick in. I do think if it were to be implemented it would be awesome though, but I would prefer to see an EMP trigger instead because what SumoSplash suggested is a bit too overpowered. :) Overall I totally agree with what everyone says about the wasted green particles.

100,000 coins saved up. I'm starting to think there should be an achievement for this. We could call it 'Thrifty Spender.'
