Just to highlight this one more time and then I'll leave it be, but I am getting a feeling of being penalized for taking my finger off the screen with losing the Overdrive beam. This is mainly because my finger has a tendency to get tired having to hold continuously to maintain it. Having a leniency pause before you lose the Overdrive and go into Ghost mode may not be feasible, but I don't think I'd have a problem with it being there. I also see a quick 'fade' into Ghost mode as being cool as well, where as you fade into Ghost mode the Overdrive beam remains on until you snap into Ghost mode.

The new ship is fun, although the firepower doesn't look visually as powerful as some of the other ships. I'm looking forward to the day when you guys can develop a shmup that does not rely on microtransactions for revenue.

It actually shoots 4 shots from those guns while in Overdrive. I mean, yes it doesn't exactly align and the projectiles are a bit big, but if all projectiles would align from the small ship everything would turn into a white unrecognisable mass :) In the end I have to make sure the firing pattern looks good and is fun to play, so the guns start out 'realistic' (it's easier for me to design them that way anyway), but get moved around and adjusted in behaviour to benefit gameplay and visuals.

Also SumoSplash, if you get too tired to touch the screen you should take some rest :)

True and yes, maybe, but I'm happy we at least found a way we could actually generate enough revenue to keep doing this. Phoenix HD would not have existed without the "success" of the Mirage and Corsair in Phoenix SD. ("success" in quotes because, well, it's not Angry Birds ofc :) ) There are many sob-stories about indie developers making bad games, bad pricing-schemes or whatever bad decisions. We just kept our mouths shut and tried different strategies until we found something that worked. Without you guys, the players, we would've had to stop making games years ago! We continue to try new things, trust me, this year will be no different :)

Haha, yeah, I'm getting old. I just meant my hand gets cramped. If you hadn't made this game so damn good, I'd be able to stay away from it longer.

I was actually thinking of starting a thread related to hand pain from playing games for so many years. Playing so much on the touch screen doesn't seem to be helping

I gotcha. I guess it's a question of scale between the model of the ship and what the ship actually does. I also didn't notice the 4 shots for Overdrive. That's cool that it increases to 4.

Sorry about the double post from the same quote.

My top 3 is what made Phoenix HD unique to me, with their unique mechanics that basically change the way a shmup is played. Phoenix on the other hand, is proof that the basic formula still works so well when done right, and not a lot of shmup titles do that.

Wow, I absolutely did not expect another update to this game. I'm glad I held onto this for so long. It is my favorite shooter, but still, I've gotten rid of a lot of other favorites before to make room for new games.

The Phantom really is great. I love the absolute glass cannon mentality, combined with the instant temporary invincibility. It makes for a very different game experience from any of the other ships, adding more life to a game that didn't really need it. And yeah, a ship built for quick games is nice too, considering I don't exactly set aside time just for this game (anymore).

    My ranking:
    1) Corsair
    2) Phantom
    3) Shogun
    4) Trinity
    5) Mirage
    6) Phoenix

Of course the Phoenix is the last exciting, since it's the basic ship and all. All of the other IAP ships are fantastically fun... but I still feel like the Mirage is drastically underpowered. Even with the Nightfury active, it doesn't kill THAT much faster than the Corsair's targeted missiles, and probably not even as fast as the Phantom in Overdrive. I feel like it's a mediocre ship WITH Nightfury active, and easily the worst when you're actually dodging bullets. At least it's visually interesting, but that's about it.

Great idea to write down your fav' ships and why, very nice feedback, great read so far!

Actually, to defend the Mirage a bit, most of the Mirage normal weapon dps is aimed, far more than the other ships. So, while dodging bullets, you generally do more damage because less projectiles are launched pointless into space :)

That said, our concepts were definitely less 'radical' when we were making the Corsair and Mirage. The idea back then was to have variants of the basic ship with a "bonus" mechanic to achieve better results. The leaderboards were all combined, the ships had to be able to compete so they could not be too different in power. This completely broke down when we introduced the Shogun and we moved away from the combined leaderboards ever since.

How do you guys like the new "your scores" screen?

I will agree that I didn't like the Mirage much when it first came out. I just couldn't get with the whole 'staying put' thing... but as time has gone on, it's become one of my favorite ships. I might even go as far as to say that I play with it more than the Shogun, and I'm a grazing fanatic. =oP

And the new leaderboards = GREAT. I think it's easier to see the scores that I want to see now, which is great, because the last leaderboard set up was kind of confusing, and once I got it, it always took a little messing around with to get to the scores I was looking for.

Anyway - LOVING this update. If I've got any extra $$ this weekend, I'm definitely going to pick up a coin package. Totally feel like the new ship is worth way more than a measly buck. =oD

    HELP!!!! Can't buy Phantom!!! D=

It tells me "Could not connect to Phoenix HD servers". How on earth should I resolve this?

EDIT: Tried all kinds of methods met with failure, finally resorting to wiping out all traces of data of Phoenix HD (I'm jailbroken with root access so could do this, I just deleted the "Documents" folder and the relevant plist file inside the Library folder) v2.1 app. For me, re-install wasn't required since it does the same thing anyway. Then restored purchases with the account I bought everything with. Success! Woo! Thereafter bought the Phantom. YEEESSS!!! (Haven't tried it yet though)

But wait, all my coins are GONE!!!! All 550,000+ of it!!! NOOOOOOOOOO!!!! :(:(:( Can you give me a little headstart, Selachii, maybe just 5,000 coins? Lost everything after playing for so long...:(:(:( User Identifier unfortunately changed due to data wiping, now AJum.

So, I understand it works now? My advice would've been to wait a couple of minutes with Phoenix HD running. We have several systems in place that try to achieve a connection to our servers (we actually have quite an advanced and robust system, which we had to build for the Chinese firewall), but it takes some time to know if connections are timing out :)

So i understand you never registered an account in the Phoenix HD settings menu? (pro tip: everyone should do this) to store coins and scores? And you do not know your previous User Identifier?

Oh, so you mean that the scores are stored in your device offline and then going online with a Firi account, Phoenix HD will then upload these scores to my Firi account (And also the leaderboards)? Then how about coins? Will the number of coins be updated when I go online with my Firi account (Sorry, didn't register before and my only iOS device is an iTouch 4G so offline most of the time)?

Previous User Identifier was AAJ :)

Just wondering if you're willing to render the "cocoon" mode (When the Phantom enters Ghost Mode) of this new 3D rendered ship and add it alongside with the image of this new ship (Still as ONE image)? :)

The translucency on the top fins looks pretty cool btw. :)

Haha, no no, don't start guessing how the system works :) Everything is stored on our servers either way!

Just mail your situation and user identifiers to me ([email protected]). Lets not spam the forums with this. We'll fix this :)

So for everyone else: pro tip: Go to the Phoenix HD settings (top left corner in the main menu) and register an account via the 'Sign In' button. This way your scores and coins can be easily accessed on other devices or after wiping your current device :)

Alrighty - I'm still not getting very many coins - but I think I figured out what my personal issue with it all is.

Right off the bat - no coin doubler. So of course, I'm not going to be earning nearly as many as I use to.

Also - I've pretty much only been playing with the Phantom. This has resulted in me using EMP power-ups when I don't want to (not when there's a crap-load of bullets on the screen) - which does take quite a few coins out of the equation. With this in mind, it doesn't feel at all like the currency gain was altered in the slightest bit. Sorry I wasn't thinking about this earlier when I brought up coinage.

    Cool :D:D:D

Maybe you could add it into the already existing image of the Phantom ship, at the bottom right hand corner? Just suggesting. :)

Seems like gaining coins was quick for me. Spent 1hr+ playing and coin count went up quickly from 6000 to 10,000 coins now. I didn't spent on any single-use boost currently though. Gaining coins didn't seem to be an issue for me at least.

Anyone noticed gigantic battery drains when playing the Phantom? My iTouch 4G heated like crazy after playing quite a few rounds (It was HOT when I touched it!) Didn't happen for other ships; my iTouch only turned slightly warm (I kinda gave up on the Phantom after scoring mostly below a million after some time, though I got just above a million like only once lol. Then I played Trinity and scored 5 million+) Not sure if its due to something else (Was using WiFi to fix a few issues I encountered in-game), but I highly doubt so because I was playing with the Phantom for quite a while after shutting off WiFi, so my device should have cooled until about the usual warming I experience.

Not sure if its a bug in the update. I'm kinda unsure whether other ships are affected, but I kinda doubt that. Maybe it's because of the high damage output of the Phantom (Hence the need to re-calculate the health of the ships even faster).

Hmmm... I haven't noticed any difference in battery usage or heat on my phone... but I do remember back when I had a 4th gen touch it would get hot when using different ships in Cave games and not with others (in the same game)... which I always thought was strange.

I'm still trying to adjust to playing with the Phantom. It's weird thinking of full health restore pick-ups as the worst thing I can have stored now. I'm also thinking differently about the other pickups as well. Right now my favorite one is either the straight forward yellow alpha strike (which I didn't really like until now) and the spread out blue laser thingy (as opposed to the yellow spread out alpha strike, the purple lock on strike and the EMP)... =oP

I love how different this ship is. I mean, I know that each ship is different and has their own style of play, but it feels like this one is changing EVERYTHING about how I play the game. It's just great. =oD

Yeah I think I seriously need the new iPod 5G or who knows 6G in the future. My 4G really sucks for a gaming device since it can't play some games without lagging. But I not enough money...:(:(:( and I'm sticking around without an iPhone nor iPad (Because my android phone is much better and iPad just costs way too much plus it's daaaaaaarn big).

Ever thought that the full health pickup should become instead complete refill of ghost energy? Don't know whether that might make the game easier though.
