Correct, you will not be charged again if you log in to your app store account on which you purchased them before. Actually, an undocumented addition in the next update: we've added a 'restore purchases' button in the settings screen. Because this is our No1 support question _by far_
Icade support? really? I always hoped for this but have always thought it just wouldn't work, you need rediculously fine control to get through the screen full of bullets, I wouldn't have thought it possible.
We were rather skeptical at start as well, maybe that's why we didn't want to do it initially, but it worked out great in the end. -- dev talk, for those interested -- We went through a lot of iterations while tweaking the movement speed and the way the ship is controlled. The playability had to be awesome and it needed to work for all 4 of the ships, which have their own gameplay profile. Eventually the most promising candidate was this solution where every ship moved with the same speed. To support the movement there were two buttons, one to increase the speed (while pressed) and one to decrease the speed (while pressed). This worked fine, but demanded more from the player and we noticed we ended up using only the 'increased speed' button. Using 'slow', 'normal' and 'boost' speeds was just too much work, it's easier if you can focus on a constant speed and make it work. The 'decrease speed' (or 'slow') button actually only was useful for the Shogun, as it needed to be able to approach bullets without bumping into them too quickly. So, we wanted to get rid of this 'slow' button. First we lowered the speed on all ships a tiny bit, so they would allow the right amount of minimal movement for navigating dense patterns. Then we gave the Shogun an even lower movement speed to supports its play-style and the end result feels great. In the end we kept the 'boost' button to increase your speed. Sometimes you just want to race across the screen to get away from a big block of bullets headed your way. Having just one speed modifier button which works a bit like a panic button is easy enough to comprehend and works naturally in the game flow of Phoenix HD. Observations about playing Phoenix HD on the iCade. * It is more relaxed to play this way: probably because you can rest your hands more easily. * It is harder to play this way: touch controls are simply the best * It is easier to play this way: (wait didn't you just say the opposite? Yes, but read on) The lower movement speed makes sure players aren't flying into other bullets so much during panic movement. This is cause of death #1 for beginning players (and some 'not-so-beginning' players as well) * It feels better to play with the Mirage: while I doubt this will lead to new high scores, it is easier to give no movement input with the Mirage, engaging the Nightfury laser. While using touch controls it is easier to (accidently or not) slightly move your finger and interrupt the Nightfury. * Overall the pick-up and play accessibility of the game just feels better, so we can definitely recommend it. * We are not sponsored by ION to do this, we purchased the iCade ourselves, we don't receive money from them to say positive things about it etc. Just so you know! -- /dev talk --
Wow, great write up, can't wait to try it. Remember this http://forums.toucharcade.com/showpost.php?p=1848942&postcount=641 Just as the icade started as a hoax I feel I had a hand in making this happen :>)
Great! This update and DDP blissful death will keep my shmup appetite sated! Looks like old school gaming is making a comeback. I'm curious if gamers in their teens and twenties are enjoying the shmup genre?
just got an iPad 2... and WOW!! Can't believe how different it looks from the 4th gen touch... very nice... =oD Just wanted to say thank you guys again for all of the hard work you've put into Phoenix. =oD
@syntheticvoid: Thanks and congratz with your new device. The iPad2 is _the_ device to play Phoenix HD on tbh @flameon: No. We ask money for things that took us consiberable time to make ( and/or cost us money) and are reasonable to ask money for. We run this 2-man studio full time (nothing on the side) and we try to earn enough to keep making games. We are not subsidized by the government or backed by any investors/publishers. There needs to be some form of income to able to make games and let me tell you it's a tough racket! (*makes drinking gesture*). So yes, not everything is free, but everything in this update is
I mean, I wouldn't hesitate to buy the ship; I was just wondering. I have the other ships. Any preview screenshots of the new ship?
I completely missed that part in the description. Sorry about that Selachii, now I feel like poop. -_- Thanks for telling me though.
thanks guys! looking forward to the next update really and yes iPad 2 is the platform to play this on
I'm curious as to how it looks versus ipad1. I also have an iphone4. Will any changes be made for ipad3?
The game looks the best on the iPad2 and iPhone4S as these devices run the game on native resolution. @flameon: don't worry about it, it just shows your anticipation for a new player ship, which is not a bad thing Here's a screenshot (taken with an iPhone4S) of a Brute in action
