We are starting our second Phoenix scoring competition in the Bullet Hell Fanatics group here on TA, if anyone is interested, feel free to join in the fun, the competition will be over on Saturday the 10th.
Broke 5mil and my overall record on the iPod finally. And the conditions under which I perished... those blasted mirvs!
I know this isn't going to happen, but in Phoenix 2, could the players ships and bullets be significantly smaller? Everything just seems oversized on my ipad.
Nice score Sapphire, those are some pretty dire conditions, if you don't have an Alpha Strike stored it's hard to pass those. The new ship will be easier to navigate through these dense bullet patterns due to its grazing behavior, though it will have some (appropriate) downside... *dramatic drumroll* Who knows! There are no plans yet for Phoenix 2, so everything is possible
ha, it'd be crazy if you guys did like rrootage and had separate game modes based on different shmup mechanics! maybe you could just make them each different ships I'm just really looking forward to the freshness that grazing will bring to phoenix hd, and thinking of ways to make it even better heh! amazing score sapph!
I guess that's already a bit the case, but we want to keep it more accessible. Bringing grazing to the more main-stream players will be a nice challenge already As promised, here are some screenshots from the more 'zoomed out' backgrounds with did during Phoenix HD prototyping. There were more backgrounds, but these looked significantly different and quite detailed. The contrast between the ship, foreground and background was pretty bad. Note that a lot of the particle effects weren't treated yet or only had a once-over.
Wow, those are really detailed. But yeah, the contrast was a little poor... hazards of having big player and enemy ships?
Mostly because they use the same kind of shapes and level of detail (or noise). Bigger or smaller doesn't contribute very much, bigger should in that case be better as each shape does have its own movement. However, the biggest problem was the super high amount of detail (the screenshots are low rez) and Phoenix HD doesn't use any motion blur, like the original Phoenix does. The motion blurring was used to make the 30FPS gameplay feel smoother, which was no longer needed at 60FPS Btw sapphire, the scoring article drifted a bit too much into a general game design direction, so I'm going to slim it down a bit. It's not a big article, I'm just very busy
Is it only me who can never get friends' scores? It always gives me an "invalid returned data" message. All the other scores work, but honestly my GC friends' scores are the only ones I give a fig about. And while I'm on the subject, why can't one view friends' scores from the main menu? I sometimes just start a game and purposely die as quickly as possible to (try to) view friends' scores. I tried deleting and reinstalling the app, which didn't work. It did wipe out my personal best score from being displayed on the personal profile page, but it's still intact on the Phoenix server I guess. Although if everyone who has my Game Center name linked to their account sees my high score as <600 from my last quick attempt to die and see friends' scores then I guess not.
heya medianotzu, this is not a known issue for us, so let's try a couple of things first. First sign out of GC before starting Phoenix. When entering Phoenix, log into your GC account when it asks you to do so via the popup. The friends list is currently not available via the Main Menu simply because we found it didn't fit on screen without making the whole thing look cluttered. We want to find a more elegant solution for this. On the iPad, the Friends button actually is available from the Main Menu Your scores are indeed stored on our servers. Setting a score and checking your own High Scores from the Main Menu should retrieve everything. Note that scores will only show up in the Friends List when the Online Pass is purchased.
Hi Selachii, thanks for the response. I gave your suggestion a try, but it still gives me invalid returned data. Also, for some reason the profile page (the one you see after your game ends) still only shows the highest score from the period since I deleted and reinstalled. I will add that this is not an issue with my router or internet connection. I recently moved and am on a totally new network with a new router and ISP, etc., and I was having this same problem before moving. Of course I did purchase the online pass, which I assume you know and it goes without saying, but just to make sure to clarify...yeah I bought all the IAP for both versions. On the positive side, I like that the loading times have decreased a lot since the last update!
I think I mentioned this problem many posts back with viewing friends high scores. I still have the same problem too. I also purposely die to get to get to the link to view friends scores.
@tops2, apologies in that case We'll take a look and should be able to fix it before the next update.
