Heh well it's the sharp corners that bug me :p  I guess the reason is that it's being drawn real-time with vector graphics, as opposed to using an existing graphic asset. But the AA available on the iPad2 is why this bugs me more than it should.

Yeah, I see, um....hear what you mean, it's the same on my touch, thought it might have been my speaker going bad! Glad it's not!

Selachii, what are your thoughts on the reviews you're getting so far? A lot of people are whining about having to re-buy the DLC with hurtful 1-star ratings... and one guy rated it 1 for being too tough. Hazards of a free app indeed :(

Ah the hitcircle doesn't show as round, ok. I think that is something to do with our line renderer. The hit box itself is a circle as we only work with circles :)

We made the choice to tune all the sound based on the headphones. We use positional audio which works the best when using headphones (yes; left, right, close by or far away, try it!). The speakers on all the iOS devices differ a lot as well, but when using headphones the results are "the same". So, if you want the best experience and the best tuned sound levels -> headphones :)

I am afraid there will always be bad reviews and I think we will have most at the start. Mainly because they come from classic Phoenix players. The only not-super-positive comments regarding graphics come from classic Phoenix players. In the end though, the people who never played Phoenix before are super impressed by the graphics, having a ton of fun and are dropping positive reviews.

In some cases I can't really blame the sour classic-Phoenix players, when they view it as a situation where we released a simple patch as a separate App that requires them to re-purchase. They don't know there are a lot of reasons why we could not upgrade Phoenix with a simple patch, which I will not go into now. Let it comfort them that they can try it for free :)

just left a 5 star review on the appstore, since I haven't yet. I think you guys can safely ignore the "vocal minority" on this, it completely boggles my mind that people can complain about "dev greediness" on such a well-thought-out game that only costs 3 freaking dollars. 99 cent apps have distorted mobile gamers' sense of value.

Yay! \o/ finally broke 5mil, in what was supposed to be just a random run #01 in a set of 10 test runs I'm doing to map pickups because I still think the pickups algorithm needs some tweaking. Right now getting a really good score depends on getting a good average distribution of pickups, however pickups are so random that you can get 2 alpha strikes, 1 emp and 1 health from the same Warlord (actually happened).

PS: I had promised myself to not spam this thread again before I break 5mil :)

Sorry if i missed any word on this. i've been playing Phoenix HD the last few days (also purchased all options! :) ). it seems to be that the Corsair is the best ship (with is targetted barrage and homing missiles) and I *feel* that the Nightfury is the weakest.

Do people share this opinion? or am I just playing it wrong? I would like to know some tips for playing Nightfury if so.

I would say it depends on your playing style. The Mirage is excellent if you have very good dodging skills since 95% of the time you will be doing a constant amount of damage to the enemy at hand regardless of where you are on the screen. My earlier 4.3mil score was from the Mirage. The way to excel with the Mirage is to dodge well, to realize that you do have one straight-firing weapon and a semi-dumbfire beam and to disable at least one turret on every wave using the Nightfury. It helps to know to know that you have a very small margin of movement that will not cancel the Nightfury, it can often be the difference between another second of Lv3 damage or having to fly away after a Lv2 blast at the turrets.

On the other hand, Corsair is great if you can manage to get a good selection of lock-ons during every wave. This can be a problem as the run progresses as it can become very difficult to stay in front of one turret for too long.

It's the Phoenix that disappoints me often, especially after its spread weapon Sonic Wave had to be removed and its dps rolled into other weapons. I'm not sure that worked out too well. Plus, Phoenix's screen-filling arsenal can often become a nuisance when you need to be very precise about locating bullet patterns.

PS: Totally hyped for 4T Towers Onslaught :D

I thought there was something different about how the Phoenix performs. I noticed that my scores on the original game are still on the leader board. Will they stay on once I get the iaps working on the new game? I'm going to try restoring my ipad without going to the newest firmware if that's possible.

This game can't use location services properly on my iPad 2 (local wifi or iphone4-tethered), it's only able to find my country so far.

Do I need a 3G iPad so that Phoenix HD can locate my city/province?

Now that Phoenix classic has received the latest update I really feel that firstly the Sonic Cannon needs to be removed from classic where it adds to the clutter as much as it would have in HD, secondly we need the enemy health bar to be added to HD. If there is to be real parity between the two builds for a single leaderboard, difference like these can't exist.

Great! How do you think the game compares on iPad vs iPhone? What are you high scores on both devices?

Easier to play on iPad but looks sharper on iphone4. 3.2mil/1.2mil iPad/iPhone on original version. On hd 2 mil/1 mil. Phoenix underpowered in hd version. The ship models look to be the same graphic wise but all light and particle effects much better in hd. Still wish the field of view was greater in hd version.

No, it should work. Check if you have Location Services enabled in your iphone Settings.

Sapphire, I still owe you the scoring answer, it will come, but I haven't been able to find time for it yet, apologies!

You guys noticed Phoenix is featured as new and noteworthy worldwide? Woohoo!

And again, the HD version is not harder, really really :)
HP bar for the large enemies? Hmmpf, it's not an actual advantage (maybe placebo ;) ) The closer the fires get to the enemy cockpit the closer it is to explode!

I sorta like not having the HP bars to look at anymore. keeps me concentrating on avoidance.

Well either way, remove the bar from Phoenix classic then. I just want the games to be identical other than the visual differences.
