Author here! (found this thread with google) I really appreciate the comments, and will take note of them. I am also a bit disapointed at the lack of attention this game got (except on touchArcade, you guys even made a video on youTube about PewPew ), but I'll avoid posting everywhere to talk about my game, I want it to become famous because it is good Oh, and BTW an update should come up soon that corrects some small issues (such as interrupting the music you are listening to when you launch the game). Also, the explosions are much cooler.
wow. SUPER responsive controls.. it gets hella claustrophobic after a bit, but otherwise im impressed... if the devs really wanted to put more into this game; goals, levels, waves, motherships, diff. weapons, ect.... the usual stuff in shooters, this would be one of the top 5 no problem.. its right up there now... i applaud the free price, and really encourage them to either dev this game more, or pour themselves into another app, as their skills are very apparent.. good job, fellas!!!!
Wow...I can't believe you put this up for free. You've got some pretty solid stuff goin on here. I agree with other members that the controls are pretty slick... very responsive! Along with the vector-style gfx, I think that's what makes the game highly playable. Well-made game! And please, pleeease tell me you are gonna include retro sound fx in future updates!
Yes, that would be awesome, more cool sound effects...especially for the ship firing. More weapons, like upgrades than can be picked up or a special attack like a bomb...that would be cool to have it as an object you can run over to make it go off...then you'd be flying around avoiding it, until you really needed it...unless you accidentally ran over it, lol.
WOW! I just played both modes. I have to say, I LOVE the Assault mode. You dodge and dodge and dodge until you think there is no more dodging that can possibly be achieved, and before you know it your another minute into the game dodging away like a trooper This can only be achieved of course by the masterfully put together control system. Don't change it!!!! I love the simple retro look. Menu is very smooth too which is a pleasure. The music is a trance inducing little ditty. It sucks me in. Honestly, I wouldn't really mind if there were no sfx in any future up-dates, although I guess to call a game 'pewpew' without the 'pewpewing' does make me ponder further on that one. Perhaps you could add an option toggle? I am really enjoying the simplicity of this well crafted game right now, although I understand why people are hankering for more, as I probably will be too in a short while. Very interested how this one will progress. Thanks Jyaif for a great game.
great game To Jyaif, Congrats on a nice game! TBH, I was expecting some laser sounds to match the game moniker, but I guess that can come later. What sucked me in was the trance music in the video, and how the walls on Assault level react to the beat! It's awesome! Other suggestions might be to have a variation of enemies (take multiple hits) or or larger; different coloured expolsions; sound effects and some powerup like a smart bomb or invulnerability to smash through the enemies. Oh, and charge at least a dollar for it, unless you're doing this free for publicity on your next game.
Nice game! I agree with a lot of the comments and suggestions here, so I'll just keep this short. Reminds me of Robotron a little. Good job!
Welcome aboard! This game made it onto the TA frontpage, along with other big boys. You should be proud. Any tiwt? Hope to see your update soon. Oh almost forgot. Love this game.
@Jyaif: Are you planning to release the music seperatly (via download or similar)? I got sucked into it every time I play pewpew.
Wow. Let me preface this by saying I was always jealous of my friend's Vectrix as a kid and now I don't have to be. Super responsive and intuitive controls, clean and concise menus and tutorial gives you the ability to hop in and GO! This is a must download, love the vector artwork and challenging simplicity. Looking forward to updates and nice work!
My suggestion to the developer: Rather than adding onto this game (besides debugging it a bit and all that), take what you learned from making this game, pour yourself into making a more fleshed out sequel (as others have said: levels, goals, modes, weapons... the usual stuff), and charge a buck or two for that. I think we would all support you in that, and that is probably a bit simpler than rolling a free app over into being a for-purchase app. And honestly, you already have a very obvious title available for the sequel: PewPewPew
Impressed with this (really liked Geometry Wars Galaxies on DS) and its free! Is this the closest thing to GW on the iphone so far? Will the official GW come to iphone?
1. Nope. 2. No idea, and don't give a darn. I play games by contents, not by "label". GW is good (PC), but GW:G is great in idea but DS is not the perfect platform for it.
You really should experience those games on their intended systems. The original and #2 are amazing games, and galaxies on the WII just added a whole new dimension to it that I was amazed at. So I'm sure that the content would be more to your liking and you wouldn't have to care about the label.
