Do you guys prefer permanent upgrades (like in most RPG), or temporary upgrades that is only effective in one game session (a.k.a. Power-Ups)?
I dislike consumables, fair enough in a free to play title but don't expect me to buy them and definitely not interested in them for a paid game.
Unless they are items like Phoenix downs and Ethers, but they should never be buyable with IAP or IAP earned currency.
But games like Jetpack Joyride, Bejeweled Blitz have a lot of consumable power-up, and they are all good?
And that is why your original question makes no sense at all. It's like asking whether a table is better than a chair.
You've never sat on a table? What part of galaxy are you from? That's beside the point though. I didn't say which is better in terms of "sitting on it". Both table and chair have their purpose.
I personally likes both Consumables and Permanent upgrades. Some consumables are very useful, like the "Save me" when I really want to break my record Just want to know why you guys dislike consumables
Because you have to keep buying them ! Before IAPs you just had one price for a game. Now games are often tailored where you have to buy something or the alternative is to grind for ages Can't see why anyone would like consumables Again this thread seems odd. Why would anyone not want permanent upgrades?
Who says consumables have to be bought with IAPs? They can be earned, farmed, bough with in-game currency etc. What are potions that give temporary attribute fortification? Yes, they are consumables, or temporary upgrades if you wish. Even games like Skyrim have those. Which is why OP's question makes no sense, and all of your answers make even less sense. It seems like even just mentioning consumable makes people lose a third of their brain cells and puts them into blindless rage mode.
I think everyone's actually misread the question from the OP. The question relates to gameplay. Say you have an arcade shoot em up. Do you prefer permanent upgrades that remain persistent through playthroughs or like a classic shoot-em up where if you die, you lose all power ups you've collected like Raiden or something. This isn't a one off vs in-app consumable question.
Exactly. And that's why the question which is better makes no sense and is impossible to answer without any context given.
Well, his example "save me" is very much in IAP context (or at least in game currency you can also purchase). There wouldn't even really be a worthwhile question if it were old school temporary boosts you'd gotten via pick-ups. Hence, the chair will always be better. Also, just for the record I don't think anyone raged, lost the plot or lost any brain cells for that matter. There were some tongue in cheek answers, some that related to the context they'd taken the question as being in (which the OP should have picked up on), I wouldn't take it so seriously.
Thanks for your opinion. I guess the reason many people hate consumables is that it is usually linked with real money IAP.
