Well, these Peridots could be the next stage of evolution on planet Earth; combined with AI chatterbots they’ll be ready to take over. Either that or it’s all a cynical attempt to make me get up and walk about. So, walking across the park my dot runs ahead of me in a convincing manner, chasing and returning a thrown tennis ball. Next task is to collect flowers. Point the camera at a sorry looking clump and they are immediately recognised. Dandelion hunting is not going so well. Grass needed I think. Focus on an area of open grass and make the dig gesture. Dot digs up numerous sandwiches, but no dandelions. It’s an interesting experiment but the technology is still at an early stage I think, about the same stage as Mars rocket technology. Not quite working as it should but worth keeping an eye on. Stronsay Well-Known Member Aug 6, 2015 987 230 43 #3 Stronsay, May 10, 2023 Day 2 and Dot is a teenager already. They grow up so fast. Doing better at recognising things today. We’re tasked with finding an array of real world items. Not all of them are inanimate objects so some chasing was involved causing much amusement. Pleased to see that Dot can now wander the neighbourhood without supervision, so it isn’t necessary to be out walking every day. Also witnessing new horizons in IAP with the built-in Amazon storefront for merchandising, though it’s not working in UK at present. Just as well I think. Anyway, when it works the tech going on behind the scenes is quite remarkable really. Never saw Pokemon GO, not having an AR device before, so don’t know how it compares. Lots of interesting ideas being developed here presumably in preparation for the introduction of VR glasses hardware in due course. Stronsay Well-Known Member Aug 6, 2015 987 230 43 #5 Stronsay, May 11, 2023 Sure, the only way to initiate breeding is to message random people and receive their consent, but you don’t need to go out. The ‘Visitor’ tab shows anyone in your area who can be contacted. The process is for adult Dots although messages can be sent prior to their maturity. I’ll be interested to see how this plays out when our Dot is old enough as it all seems a bit weird. ShinHadoukin Well-Known Member Feb 20, 2015 972 143 43 #6 ShinHadoukin, May 11, 2023 Yeah, I agree it's a little weird. I would like another mechanic to get and breed characters. I have thought something like FF 7's chocobo breeding/racing would work in a game like this. You catch then you race (or walk, etc.) to level up. The better the level each the better the chance for other special versions to eventually get an "ultimate" version. Stronsay Well-Known Member Aug 6, 2015 987 230 43 #7 Stronsay, May 11, 2023 Yes, an idea like that could be implemented as an alternative because this is proving to be complicated. Have sent some messages and received one consent so we’re all set when Dot comes of age. Next there’s something about visiting a campfire - no idea what that’s about yet. Then we need a nest to complete the ‘Hatch-a-Dot’ process. Clearly they want the app to feature community involvement. On that subject something unexpected happened today. Dot returned from a virtual walk around the neighbourhood with a photo showing our local community noticeboard detailing forthcoming events. I’ve lived here a while but never knew this noticeboard existed, and it’s only a few streets away. I shall investigate further.
