    Name/Branding:
    -PeP
    -PlayOn
-any ideas on what a good name for this could be?

    Synopsis:

PeP is an idea for a modern fully licensed playstation emulator platform across multiple devices.

    supported devices:
    -PCs, Macs, Linux
-mobile: iOS (phone, touch, pad) android, webos, chromeos? others?
-TV: google TV, xbox, ps3/psn, smart TVs

    Business Model:

***the app itself will be free to download and install and may actually come with a few select titles to play for free

    1) subscription based: 9.99 a month for free access to the entire library of psx games available on the PeP platform.

    2) digital download: pay 4.99-6.99 to buy the game outright

    3) pay to cheat: offer cheats, exp boosts, $$$ for game currency, god modes ect for in game purchases especially for the free games offered

4)DLCs and expansions: wait... how can older games have DLCs or expansions? well you can do "backdrops" which is kinda like taking modern spin offs/sequel's art assets, stories, characters, settings re-develop/re-tell them thru the older game-engine as expansion packs or DLCs or create your own under the developer's supervision of course

protip: if you really want to be creative, go for the big risk/big reward do something crazy like offer the entire library of games for free across all devices leveraging only #3 and #4 for monetization.

    Key Features:

    1) premium ports: polished ports that will be redesigned from the ground up rather then just copied and pasted.

    2) social features: gamertags, friends, leader-boards, and achievements

    3) multi player: online and local multi player support

    4) gamesaved data will sync in the cloud so you can pick up right were you left off across multiple devices

    thoughts:

I see a great opportunity here! However to be realistic one should not expect to have extremely high margins due to the sheer amount of licensing fees involved. However even with all the overhead expenses Im certain that if done right there will be enough cash flowing to generate substantial profits.

It should come correct with a crisp clean and modern GUI. It should offer social and multi player features that gamers have come to expect. The ports should be done properly with polish and lots of attention to detail. Last but not least it should be fully licensed and leverage the business models stated above. With all that going for it a PeP should have a very good chance at being successful especially if there is some seed funding. The hook is of course the idevices (mobile smart phones to be more broad) thats what its all about. I wouldn't stop there tho, if it gets to that point... i would imagine apps for gtv, xbox, and psn wouldn't but that far out of the question either.

    what do you guys think?

The entire thing feels really awkward. Not to say it's bad, but it'd be so much easier if Apple would lax up and allow an emulator. Dropbox and my Droid are about to become best friends.

I love the idea and it's not something most of us haven't thought of (Sega even almost released a Genesis emulator app),

    BUT...

What makes you think Sony will allow this? They don't even allow Lemming to be ported to iPhone and just released an anti-iPhone commercial 2 days ago.

And that would probably be the least of your problems. You'd then have to get Apple to let you publish it, and considering their relation with Sony, it's virtually impossible, given that their usual policy concerning emulators is rather strict.

Then, you'd have to get permission from every dev of those PS1 games to sell them online, and seeing how it's not a large-scale operation from a big-name company, I doubt it. I'm not trying to be a complete pessimist here, but I highly doubt any big name company giving a small dev the right to sell their games.

And for anyone who read my stupid post last night, I fell asleep for a few with my hand on the keyboard, and at some point must have hit the post button...
