People want all games, regardless of quality, to be 0.99c with no IAP, or worst case scenario, 0.99c with IAP that is 100% optional. They don't want Freemium, paymium, or premium. They premium quality at a flat 0.99c rate, which is unrealistic and delusional. Ashalt Heat, however is 0.99c with optional IAP (which is something that Gameloft can achieve in this instance because the core of Ashalt is basically recycled). Over on the thread for Ashalt 7, everyone is praising it. It is because Ashalt 7 is good? No. It's decent. Really, people are praising it because it is cheap. Meanwhile, the Amazing Spiderman gets heavily criticized around here because of "premium" pricing. The fact is that the Amazing Spiderman is 1/4 the price of the 3DS version, and it is still a better game. If you want a legitimate console experience, buy the 360 or PS3 version for $60. The iOS version is approximately 1/10 the price. I don't know what the heck people are expecting. If the Amazing Spiderman were at 0.99c game, few people would be knocking it. It's also chic to bash Gamelof simply because there is a section of the iOS gaming community that's like the music snobs of handheld gaming. It's gaming elitism/snobbery at its finest.
There's a lot of truth in the above statement. However, I tend to dislike Gameloft, not because of any "elitism" or being cheap, but simply because they make soulless games. Another poster already pointed this out. Their games are mostly decent, but their hearts and souls don't go into them. They don't seem to love what they do. Games are merely a moneymaking opportunity for them. Now that's all fine and good, I understand that they're in business and have a bottom line, but the problem's still there. Also, they lack a single ounce of creativity. While other iOS games have brought new ideas or gameplay to people, Gameloft is content to simple clone poplar console games. Now I understand that those games aren't on the AppStore and we should be grateful for something "like" them, but still I would prefer something new brought to the table in their games. Maybe they should release 1 or 2 games a year, and focus on making those game's plots, acting, gameplay and polish as good as possible instead of cranking out half a dozen releases per year.
But I don't always need games with soul in them. Is soul that important?Gangstar Rio may has a stupid plot but I can get more frustation than fun in a GTA game. MC3 is no soul? I dunno, but why I need soul in a FPS game.
I suppose this mindset (generally) reflects that of the newer generation of gamers weaned on a constant supply of FPS/TPS titles: cut scenes are a nuisance and should be skipped, plot development is poor progression compared to a level up window and twitch gameplay (FPS in generally) reigns supreme. Fleshed out characters?! Atmosphere?!Emotional sympathy?! There just needs to be people to shoot , gunfire, smoke, swearing and lots of blood and action. Gameloft is just meeting the needs of this newer generation of gamers. I have never really enjoyed any Gameloft game even though I have bought most of them to try...as mentioned by a few others...the games just feel really souless. I couldn't care less about the price or IAPs (what's $10 or less to a working adult?) but I am rather picky about which games I choose to spend my time on and with so many games out there..I suppose I have the right to be picky.
I enjoyed gamelofts games at start (GT racing, nova 1, MC 1, Avatar, RS11, ironman, Hero of Sparta 1, Blades of fury, Prince of Persia and Gangstar 1). I played and finished all of those games. So, if you read the titles I mentioned above, you can already see the main gamelofts problem. All their sequels are the SAME. They play the same, controls are same, gameplay is the same, feeling is the same (which I call the gameloft feeling)... So it gets boring pretty quickly. I do know gameloft still makes good games today, but those who played their previous games (of the same genre) won't play it (I know there are some exceptions). Trust me, even you, gameloft fanboys will start to get bored with their games. The only problem is, that gameloft won't go down, for making similar games, because they always drag the young (people which didn't played their games before) audience with them. And why gameloft turned to freemium? Because it's proven that freemium games get more money out of the people who play the game.
Dont agree. Asphalt 7 i thought would be a 'standard racer' but its far better than i thought. What i tend to do is that if a game is freemium i tend to buy a few dollars of currency/items as a way of saying 'thanks' to the dev and have always done that. I would be happy buying Asphalt 7 for 5 dollars as it doesnt seem to force IAP's down my throat whereas Six Guns i wanted to love so badly but i found it frustrating that i kept needing money for bullets as most missions werent very generous, gave up on that game. I'm not one of these kids who expects 13241 levels for 99c, Spiderman i think is a good way of pricing, to me most iOS games should be this price specially some of the big name Gameloft games. If all future Gameloft games were $6.99 with a 'tiny' bit of IAP's then thats great. Problem is with a fair few freemium games is they basically force you to buy things to continue (Six Guns i think) which is terrible. Asphalt 7 doesnt do that, you can play it for ages without having to buy anything at all. But i want Spiderman to do well so Gameloft might start releasing most games at 6.99 with hardly any IAP's rather than free/99c with tons of IAP's Like many others i really liked early Gameloft, bought most of their games, just after that it seemed to go downhill, freemium based games which were pretty similar from past games. Again the problem is as iOS games started off so cheaply so many people are upset the second a game is a few dollars or the price of a burger which is ridiculous. I 'Gameloft-bash' due to many of their latest games being much of the same and most of all due to Dungeon Hunter III ! LOVED the first two games and was so disappointed when the third was just an arena based freemium 'give us your cash' type game. So disappointing. Spiderman i actually enjoy and i hope the Batman game (Heard its also free-roam) will be just as good so Gameloft might be turning a corner for me personally. A 'Dungeon Hunter IV' return to the earlier games would be the icing on the cake ! But again look at Six Guns, are you honestly telling me that its good ? For me graphically its great, love the missions but the IAP's just ruin that for me totally.
Gangstar rio superior to rockstar's gta 3 port to iOS? I'm not even going to continue this conversation...but I will We need soul in games much like we need soul in movies: without the heart, the story, the emotion, the film just becomes stupid after you strip away the fancy graphics and cool swearing. Granted, there are PLENTY of movies and games that need no soul to be good, yet, there are some people who don't just want a video game; they want a story, fleshed out characters, an emotional attachment to those characters, and the developers to actually have loved their game. There are very few Gameloft games that are like that. That's why I don't like most Gameloft games. Besides the fact that often the engine runs poorly, the games are rushed and horribly unoptimized, and the fact that all their games this year have and will contain IAPs.
Same here, cant believe someone prefers Gangstar than GTA3 which is an all time classic ! Cant argue with these people!
It's pretty easy to understand, I just name one reason. It's too diffcult for me to play any one of GTA game series. No matter how great the game is, but I can't finish my game---in fact, far from finish it. Anyway, I paid for something I can't enjoy, it's feels bad.
I'm sorry, but that didn't make a whole ton of sense...you dislike the GTA games because they're too hard and you never finish them? Ok, to each his own I guess...
I loved Sacred Odyssey: Rise of Ayden. In fact it is currently my most enjoyed ios game ever. Its free to download and lets you get a feel for combat and then you pay a one time fee to unlock the whole game.
It is always good to be to look at things objectively! GTA is vastly superior to Rio in every way possible ..but HE is saying that Gameloft's take on GTA is much more streamlined and accessible to lazy ios gamers.
Ive got asphalt 6 and 7 with mc3 from them and its satisfying..hmhmhm i agree on some comments that gta 3 is better than rio.
If you say GTA IV is superior, yes. but GTA SA, not that superior, there are some aspects Rio is better. Such as a better graphic.
Maybe if you said rio is better than GTA3 then MAYBE..... just MAYBE. But SA? SA was the best gta game by far. You dare compare this piece of trash to SA? I'll make sure not to take any of your future posts seriously, thank you very much.
oh,really? SA is better than GTA IV? you stand on the top of people's car and they don't care about it? how can that be better than GTA IV? GTA is never perfect, in GTA chinatown, guys run as fast as cars. Rio is bad in the eyes of many people, but it has it's own advantage. Kill people by hands, cops never care. Jump into the water, then cops can't catch you. errr, it seems gameloft fixed these great bugs. I hope not.
Guys just saying the guy you're arguing with (klarence) is the same guy that stated nova 3's multiplayer is AAA console quality just because of the graphics. Klarence is just a graphic whore that Thinks any iOS game is better than a console counterpart just because he had an eyegasm from said game. Stop wasting your time arguing with him. Oh and klarence everyone has opinions but that doesn't necessarily mean they are right. ~Ajay
100% agree ! Too many kids nowadays seem to just go for a game due to graphics, its all about gameplay, nice graphics are a bonus but if the game doesnt play right it doesnt matter if a game has cutting-edge technology graphics etc
Graphics do not make or break a game. They add to the overall experience. Tbh I think most new generation gamers haven't even played true games. Most people buy games because of the graphics and then later complain and regret buying it. let me ask you klarence what was your first ever video game that you played? Mine was the legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Even though the graphics werent the best (even in its own time) it was an amazing console quality experience. And let me explain what console quality experience means. If an iOS game was to have far superior graphics it still wouldn't be considered console quality. If the games controls where klunky, laggy animations, poor story/plot that game wouldn't even be compared to a console experience. A true game with console quality experience is one that immerses the player into the atmosphere of the game. Ocarina of time was the first game with "crappy graphics" (compared to today's times.) that made me feel that it's so much more than a game. that's what true console quality is. Just because a game has amazing graphics it DOES NOT mean its anywhere near console quality. And you must be a try hard gameloft suck up to say gameloft is the leading dev of the iOS market to offer games with such experience. there are other developers who are far more enitiled to that title. such as square enix, epic games, crescent moon games, mad finger games, EA, and many other devs who have taken there time with games. I mean look at gameloft compared to SE gameloft releases much more games then SE in a year yet SE's games are always 4-5 star quality. IMO the best turn based rpg I have played on iOS is chaos rings 2. So please don't suck up to gameloft and don't ever compare iOS to consoles because it will never happen. They are whole new category of gaming. And if gameloft was a leading dev they would update their games continuosly to fix bugs, glitches, improve stability and more. so to sum up: gameloft has basically turned into a FTP gaming developer and is receiving lots of criticism for doing so. Their latest games TDKR and TASM were an attempt to "reignite the fire that once was". If they continue with premium games that they put time into they might become one of the leading game devs for the iOS community but for now they are basically like gamevil. They used to make good games till they started to experiment with FTP games. And those types of games bring good revenue but they lower the reputation of the developer. My very long two cents. ~Ajay
