Are you aware that some people can afford Macs but don't think that it's worth spending more than $1000 on any computer?

I can afford a Mac, but I won't get one, because I don't need one. At the moment there is nothing a Mac has that I need. Maybe in the future, yes, but not now.

And your average user doesn't need one either. Given that all your mainstream user does on a computer is browse the web, check email, IM, and maybe watch videos...they don't need a Mac for that.

However if I actually am spending $1500 on a laptop. I want the best value possible. Witht the PC I would get better hardware but with the Mac probably better build quality (although the HP Envy line is alos nicely built) and better battery life.

It boils down to the user's needs. If the user isn't encoding video or playing games, the Mac would probably be the better choice. Etc.

You don't need one, but if you're less than tech-savvy you'd encounter a lot less error messages going with Mac. I don't actually know what OSX error messages look like and I've been using it 2 years now.
I do! It comes before all that social networking crap.

When you pay double price for something just because it has a pretty wrapping you're a moron. You can't even refute that because you have no valid points as to why a mac is better. Windows pcs have a far superior software lineup, is cheaper, can run games that are not 5+ year old, runs all major design software like 3ds, maya, photoshop, flash etc. as good as any mac and the list goes on

I have yet to see you present any valid points as to why a mac is worth its overly expensive price tag. Instead you resort to sarcasm and insults. You're like a neckbearded manchild or a teen girl on her period and all this because of a lifeless piece of plastic. How sad

Hey now, don't bring my menstrual cycles into this, this has been a particularly heavy flow month. Anyway, by that logic, anyone who doesn't shop at Aldi or Wal-Mart and only by the absolute cheapest generic options available for all things is also a moron.

I can't imagine how sad your kitchen must be, filled with President's Choice cheese substitute because you refuse to be the fool who buys anything but the cheapest thing available. I would be so ashamed if you went through my cupboards, it would be all over as soon as you spotted some name brand vegetable oil instead of prison-grade food-quality oil substitute.

SO FISCALLY WASTEFUL MY HOUSEHOLD IS!

Well... there was my remark you skillfully avoided. Less errors. I'm trying to convince my mother to buy a Macbook rather than a Windows laptop because I know things won't start crashing and she won't get endless popups telling her she has a virus when really she doesn't. If something does go wrong then she's covered by better customer support than she'd have with most other companies. Then there are the small advantages, great battery life, magnetic AC cord socket (we've got a dog), AirPort, fast startup/shutdown times, easily the best touchpad on the market and a version of iTunes that actually works properly... fairly small and insignificant on their own, but they build up to provide a better experience and when you go back to a Windows laptop the number of things you'd grown to take for granted and are now annoying the shit out of you is unreal.

Lots of people don't need a Mac, but lots of people don't need to play games either. You're talking about people spending more than they need to on a site full of iPhone owners. You could save about 75% going with a different phone in the UK, but it hasn't affected the iPhone's popularity.

    Awww. Is somebody cranky?

Look, have fun with your viruses and your low resolution screen while I'll have some fun playing Borderlands and video chatting and not having to worry about being infected. ;)

    Oh, the irony.

Er... kay? If you weren't a half-wit, it would be pretty easy to find screen solutions that surpass that of a MacBook Pro. And laptops with cameras are not all that difficult to find in this age.

And the fact that viruses have a bit of an easier time messing up a Windows machine is the same reason why the software support for a PC is much higher. Lose-win.

Don't get me wrong, I love Macs, but there's a method to the madness of the Windows world, and it's the one I live in.

Not ones that are cheap, which is what he was talking about. I'm pretty sure you aren't going to find a PC with better resolution and video chat for only $500.

    haha. LOL! Sig worthy!!! :D

Now I won't delve too far into this uncompromising debate on Macs vs. PCs because I have never owned a Mac. Not out of spite but because my last 2 PCs have been built piece by piece for gaming purposes. Therefore, I got quality parts (other than hard drives for which I am cursed) at cheap prices. So, to me - Macs are more expensive and not even close to as capable when it comes to gaming.

With that said, I want to debunk what I believe are outdated "Mac fanboy loving" talking points.

Protection from Viruses/HackersThe first is that Macs are far more secure. I don't recall the source but I read a year or so ago that a study found that both operating systems had their share of vulnerabilities, with the main difference being that Windows appeared to be more vulnerable due to their huge market share, therefore more people to hack, and because businesses prefer PCs. The other issue is obviously your virus protection software, which is a wash.

Ease of Use and System Errors Again, I have never owned a Mac so I won't comment on their ease of use and lack of errors. Until Windows 7 was released, I would have completely believed this claim. XP was below average and Vista was the biggest piece of garbage ever. I used to get Blue Screens of Death when unplugging flash drives. Thank god things have changed. Windows 7 is fantastic. It has probably crashed on me 3-4 times in the few years I've had it. It really is a solid OS and simplifies a lot of processes and tasks.

Haha I bought my Dell in early 2006 for $600 and it has a 1680x1050 display. Higher than the currnt MBP 15".

Now in 2011 you can probably get the same with a decent webcam built in too.

In 2006? Either the rest of the hardware was bunk or I call shenannigans. I bought an HP laptop around 2006 (1680x1050) for what converts to around $1783 and it was a freakin' good deal at the time. Assuming you're talking laptops that is... which you should be in order to make any sense in your comparisons at all.

Oh, so that's what the extra thousand is for, huh?

It doesn't even look that bad. Maybe it'd help if you'd stop smooching loose leaf for a minute.

The specs seem decent, but I'd expect it to start creaking after a couple of years and probably just shatter into pieces soon after :p
