Well i have used a macbook for 2 years and to be honest i didn't find it to be amazing at all The unibody construction is nice until something breaks which in my case was the mouse button, the battery life wasn't better than my current vaio and as for the mac os, yea i guess it's ok if you lack basic understanding of how OS works and you're satisfied with how Apple decided you should use it Alienware isn't any better, i didn't claim that, but i just find mac users ridiculing alienware for being overpriced funny because that is exactly what a mac is. Get a Sony, Toshiba, what ever and you'll get so much more bang for your buck I understand some people want to pay extra for the design but that is all you get from your mac. As far as i know the mac OS is a unix OS with a frontend on it which yields nice performance. Sadly it also means you're missing out on an incredible amount of great software unless you're dual booting windows in which case you might as well use a windows pc with linux on it
This entire thread gave me one of the biggest chuckles I have ever had reading a forum. Great going guys
First off, to the guy comparing today's PC graphics to console graphics and not factoring in that the Xbox 360 came out like 6 years ago, you just come across as a numbskull. There is absolutely no arguing against the fact that the PC looks far better than consoles on BF3. It's common sense, no analysis or video evidence needed! As for Mac vs. PC, you all can have that conversation. Since I am a PC gamer, Macs aren't even an option.
I've never used Mac computers until this year when I started college and I can understand what the hype is about, if only they had better games I would make the switch full-time to a Mac. Especially because adobe, avid, all seem to run much better than on my PC. But when you factor in games, it's a no brainer for me. I'm sure when you compare how well my PC runs avid, and adobe compared to how well macs can run battlefield, Starcraft, or any other game. Well PC is the winner in my book. BTW this whole debate is getting old is it not?
The Mac is overpriced crap. Apple was on the verge of fail until they pulled the iPhone outta their butts. People weren't buying Macs. Microsoft crushes Apple when it comes to computers, as it should. It's the software that makes the purchase worthwhile, not the hardware. The hardware is great and all, but without proper software support the hardware is worthless. Mac software support doesn't come anywhere close to Microsoft software support. Sure, Apple produces their verison of basically everything Microsoft produces, but third-party Mac support is sorely lacking. Way too many third-party programs run only on windows. And Microsoft blows Apple out of the water in terms of gaming. Again, it's a third-party support issue more than anything. I understand that the Mac runs certain graphics programs and thing of that nature and, in terms of business, depending upon the business, it has it's place. Mac does trump PC in some ways. But for personal home use, it's not worth owning. If your a graphics designer, then sure, it's a nice investment. For everyday stuff, forget it. The Mac is so expensively overpriced that it's laughable. Really. It's really seriously laughable. Here, In the real world, people can't afford that. Companies, yes. People, no. I don't know what universe Steve Jobs is living in. As far as Battlefield 3 goes, the PC has superior graphics, 64-player MP support versus 32 for consoles, and will run at 60fps on the PC while only running at 30fps on consoles. It doesn't take a genius to figure out who's winning here and who's coming out on the short end of the stick.
The real world?..or your situation in life? Not trying to call you out, but what if I don't find the MacBook overpriced in comparison to other laptops? I don't play games on the PC/Mac. It suits my needs for everything else better than a Dell/Vaio/Toshiba would.
Everything he says is representative of life in his alternate universe, I wouldn't take it too seriously. As if a solid 30fps ever ruined a game. As if 60fps is needed at all
How could it suit your needs better? The only thing i can think of is iphone development, otherwise anything a mac can do a windows pc can do better at half the price
http://www.macrumors.com/2007/01/17/apple-posts-1-billion-in-profit-1q-2007-and-financial-call-notes/ A billion dollar quarterly profits and on the verge of fail?
Really now? Funny how one market is rising while the other is falling then, huh? I use it for stuff that normal teenagers use: music, making videos, iTunes, web, typing, powerpoint, watching movies, messaging, etc. Have you touched a Mac/MacBook before? I can promise you that all of these are better on the Mac. I don't go play PC games. There's no argument anymore once that's established. I also don't get myself off looking at specs. It's only been a little over five months since I got my MacBook Pro, but it's terrible when I have to do stuff on the home PC. Speed, convenience, design. Apple.
How is web any better on Mac? Except that fact that Adobe Flash is an absolute broken experience on OSX? Safari looks nie but is junk compared to Firfox 4 and Chrome, both are available on both Mac and PC. Music? That's only bad on a PC if you use iTunes for Windows (Apple still hasn't fixed the Windows version of that program...and it's been what..a decade? Powerpoint? I'll admit that Keynote is far supeior to PowerPoint, but there is no question about Word and Excel destroying Pages and Numbers...which eliminiates the typing argument as well. Watching movies? Please tell me how this is better on a Mac? You get the nice QuickTime X interface but that doesn't exactly change the movie watching part. Messaging? Download a proper 3rd party IM client on Windows and I assure you, it beats iChat by a long shot. I'm not here to argue that Mac is an inferior experience. It is superior, but not in the respects that you pointed out.
Are you aware that there are people out there who are gainfully employed and buy things that they want instead of things that are the absolute best value at rock bottom prices?
