3k? First of all your friend bought an Alienware. Anything he says basically becomes false with that. You can buy a PC that maxes everything out at 1080p for a little over $500. The people that spend $1000+ on PCs usually have other tasks for their rigs like video encoding or business applications and not just gaming.
Is this what this worls has come to? Just because I'm a PC Gamer I must be fat and have never seen the outside world?
Spoiler The graphics are about as different as the two thingys that follow this. oo LMAO, although I can bring my alienware laptop outside........... but XBOX gamers have this:
meh, maybe he had a couple things that aren't fully maxed out, but it still runs games on max settings and video editing, and other stuff without a hiccup and it was around 3kish. so if you see, he does things other than gaming. he does video stuff, programs, etc. and I don't understand the statement I bolded.
Hostile? Just sayin' what I see bro. At most it could be read as passive agressive. I'm just kinda bored with your not-so-subtle hints to PC gaming in every topic you visit. Yes we know you play on PC, now shut up about it and focus on the games themselves. It's boring as hell and it sounds like you spend more time getting off over your PC specs than playing any games at all. ...and yeah, don't bother commenting on the 720-1080 thing. You're still stuck on a crappy, ancient (you give it so I'm assuming you can take it) 3rd gen iPod Touch apparently, so you likely don't know what I'm refering to in my comparison. Here's twelve quotes in case it isn't clear enough:
Alienware generally has the reputation of being the Apple of the PC world, overcharging customers simply because of the name. Building your own PC is much cheaper in most cases. Your pal probably could have saved $1.5k and still have similar specs.
ah, okay. yea, he got it as a present of sorts for getting above a 2100 on the PSAT (considering he's not a junior yet). so....
The difference is, Apple computers are wonderfully designed. On the other hand, the person responsible for Alienware's aesthetics only seems to care about how they can maximize the number of LED's and fan grills.
lol Enjoy your fancy design at 3 times what it's worth Seriously, mocking alienware is fine and well deserved but don't go and praise Apple then. At least an alienware pc can still run proper games and software. Enjoy your apple steam with 3 games By the way you can get wonderfully designed windows laptops too and at half the price of an Apple
Both parties are guilty of the same thing, but Alienware so much more than Apple. I've owned a ton of expensive Windows laptops, then moved to Mac paying a little more (and it being my first Mac, expecting what you said to be bang on the money) and found it genuinely was better designed in terms of hardware and software. I spent my whole life on Windows up until a year or so ago, but I wouldn't go back now.
Does it make you angry when people spend their money on a Lexus? I mean, you can get a wonderfully designed Toyota for half the price and all.
You PC gamers think you're so hot with your fancy Pentium II processors and 3DFX Voodoo2 cards running Quake II at 800x600 but I'll stick with my Playstation.
Yeah, I forgot to mention that. No hate on Apple products from me. The price is genuinely worth it in most cases with Macs.
Except with cars you're not just paying for the design. Not the case with Apple computers which, for the price, are inferior hardware wise to almost any windows pc Infact, using cars, what Apple does is taking a used Fiat and putting a Ferrari body on it. Now it might look good but it will still perform as a Fiat If you feel that's good enough to warrant a major increase in price, good for you, but you should be careful about mocking alienware for doing essentially the same thing
How is an intel based Apple better? Really, i fail to see how that is at all possible because when you look at a macbooks spec and compare them to a generic windows laptop you can easily see you get much more bang for your buck with a windows pc, design aside The days of specialized Apple chips are long gone and this myth about superior hardware should have ended years ago. They're using the same chip sets, only difference is the OS and Apple charging way more than what the components are actually worth
Go to your Apple store and touch a MacBook Pro. I would be hard pressed to think of any Windows based laptop that could match the build quality and battery life of a MacBook Pro. Not to mention, OSX does most basic tasks better than Windows. So as an OS for the "average" user, it's better. Power users may or may not be better with Windows, depending on the task. Also the higher end MacBook Pros have pretty decent pricing. The only prices that really irk me are the lower end ones. Compared to HP Envy laptops, the pricing isn't all that different. Only difference I can see is that Apple could maybe provide more RAM for the price. But for the form factor I tihnk the CPU and GPU are perfect. And the iMac. Your basically paying for the display with one of those. A 27" display with quality equal to the iMac will cost you about $900+. And the iMac display is absolutely gorgeous. You will get blown away. If you add it up the components for the 27" will run you about $700, and then add $1000 for the display. I'd say the $300 Apple tax here is justified since it's an all-in-one. And this is coming from a long time Windows user and PC Gamer. Also @ Midian what do you mean I haven't seen the Retina difference? I use Retina devices almsot every day, from my friends. From my experience to achive the same image quality at both 720p and 1080p, I need to use 8X anti-aliasing on 1280x720 and only 2X on 1080. While performance on both settings is almost the same. I can post screenshots, if you want. I would agree that it's harder, if not impossible, to notice on a big TV though. Both my PC and my PS3 are connected to my monitor.
It's honestly impossible to argue Windows vs. Apple because so much boils down to personal preference. Opinions don't simply boil down to which they consider the better computer, but to various aspects such as the interface, it's primary use, looks, portability, hardware, and previous experiences. The value of the computer depends entirely on the user. I don't get why people are so hard-pressed to exclaim why apples are better than oranges. **** me, that's a bad analogy.
I'll pay any premium for an Apple computer because every aspect of the experience is immeasurably better. The unibody construction of their laptops is incredible, the battery life is insane, and the entire OS X ecosystem of Mac-exclusive software is something that I couldn't live without anymore. Unfortunately, if you've never used a Mac for an extended period of time, this isn't really something you'll likely ever understand. Alienware is not doing the same thing, on any level. They're not even playing in the same ballpark. All Alienware is offering is the same old shitty Windows experience with more LED's. All Alienware computers have been since 2009 (earlier actually, but 2009 was a major turning point) is an overpriced Dell with a light up alien head. Dude, you're getting an Alienware!
