Using released footage, I made a comparison video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fx5CkbG7k6I Detailing the differences. Obviously, how big/subtle the differences are boil down to the viewer itself. Your thoughts?
Damn it...forgot to add...on PC you can see the flash from the guns on the walls...while it's missing on PS3.
The difference seems insignificant to me. I've been reading some of the threads on the BF3 forum and everyone is squabbling like kids about the graphics. Personally I don't think the extra money/hassle of PC gaming is worth the slightly better graphics, that's just me though and I'm sure most PC gamers would disagree. I just find is hilarious how some people act as though the graphics are the most important aspect of the game. The graphics look great on both the PS3 and the PC. Gameplay is what I'm interested in.
Well we've reached the point with hardware that we can't really change all the big things any more. They become as good as they get. Now the focus is on all of the minor details that you may or may not notice. Now it just boils down to the user. Do they care about all the small details (notice this video doesn't really show the difference from resolution. I remember you saying that the iPhone 4>Xperia Play in another thread because of the Retina display. 1080p vs. 720p on console would apply here as well.), or do they just care about the big things, or not care at all? And gameplay? Well whether it matters, again depends on the player, but BF3 on PC has far bigger maps in multiplayer and is 32 vs. 32, while the console version is 16 vs. 16.
I personally like the mouse controls for aiming much better than physical twin sticks. I like the feeling of moving my hand instead of just my finger. I feel like i have more control for some reason.
First of all I never said that the iPhone 4 was better than the Xperia Play, I may have said that I prefer the iPhone 4, and if I did then many other differences influence my preference. Resolution is where it gets more complicated. Both the iPhone 4 and Xperia Play are handheld devices, both are played from closer distances to the eyes (unlike the PS3 and PC). The iPhone 4 has pixels which are 1/4 the size of regular pixels, now that makes a noticeable difference and the graphics generally look sharper on the iPhone 4 in comparison to other handheld devices with regular sized pixels such as the Xperia Play, iPhone 2G/3G/3GS, PSP etc. But despite the sharper graphics, the overall difference in graphics isn't really that that big. As for gameplay, the size of the maps and player limits don't necessarily determine how good the gameplay is. But assuming that the bigger maps and 64 player limits do mean that the PC version has better gameplay, the PS3 version will still be good enough. The core gameplay will remain the same across all platforms and that's what matters the most to me. The PS3 version might not have the best graphics, but the graphics look fine. The PS3 version might not have the biggest maps and the highest number of players but again, 16 vs 16 and average size maps is fine for me.
Retina vs non-retina is more noticable, since one of them sidesteps the need for anti-aliasing. Both 720 and 1080 have the potential to be jaggy wonderlands so I don't particularly care which one I get most of the time.
I think it's pretty much over. Everyone knows the PC version looks flashier and has bigger maps. Most people don't care, a few PC gamers think they have something to prove.
a PC that costs probably somehwhere around 5k or a console that only costs $299. I think I'll sacrifice some graphics for a cheaper system, thank you very much.
I am the exact opposite of what I suspect is most other people. I don't want public servers. I don't want individual people controlling ranked match servers. It leads to what I refer to as God mode. People who run these servers end up developing the gaming equivalent of a God complex. I've seen quite enough pistol only and crouch only matches. It's ridculous that people can make up their own rules and boot people for not following them. Or boot people who are good enough to embarrass the host. The Host can boot people for "camping", for example. The term "camping" is completely subjective. Often times, however, someone is camping if they are beating you. Anyway, most PC games utilize public servers, which is stupid. Most console games do not. Therefore, I gain a much better MP experience by playing the console version.
Please tell me which game in recent years does this? The only game I've ever come across in which this happens is Counter-Strike. Otherwise the reason anyone gets kicked these days is either hacking or inactivity (meaning if you join a server and just leave your computer for 5 minutes). Yes, the host has the power, but few of them if any are actual dicks, and would you rather deal with this? http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/01/17/video-shows-shocking-call-of-duty-black-ops-host-advantage/ Well according to this video the console versions of every P2P based game are basically broken from the core. Didn't know shot registration was that bad. The PS3 is the choice here, since all 1st-party PS3 exclusives have dedicated servers. Also the last game with public dedicated servers was CoD4. Sine then now they are all paid-for private ones. Ones that you can't make by yourself or do gay crap on. @ MidianGTX Why are you so freaking hostile? I even mentioned in the OP that the results are up to your interpretaion. If you don't notice the difference, then that's great for you! I'll be buying it on PC, because I buy games like Battlefield mostly on PC, simply because I prefer playing FPS games and most multiplatform titles on PC. On my PS3, I buy PS3 exclusives like Uncharted, Killzone, and Gran Turismo. I would comment on your statement that both 720p and 1080p are jaggy wonderlands, but screw it. No point.
not 5k. maybe 3k. My friend has a maxed out alienware computer (which is a gaming computer) and it has 8 processors, a shitload of ram, etc. etc. etc. and he got it for around 3k. Runs everything at max no problem AND a bunch of other software ie. video editing stuff, etc. as for me, my computer is so shitty that it sometimes has problems with flash games pc gaming is outta the question for me until I get a decent one. hahahah
