As I mentioned before, and surely others did, this is a very complex game. It's not a generic action RPG where you just have to learn the ropes of the skill system and then just slash your way to the end by tapping your most powerful skills. It's a strategy card role playing game. You must read all the cards and understand the game flow, because you need to know exactly which options you have at a a given time and what the game is expecting you to to in a given moment. For example: at the end of each turn, you can "reset" you hand by discarding any number of cards (not only those in excess of your hand size) and drawing that many from your deck (a risky move but sometimes necessary when you have bad cards in hand). But the game will never take you there automatically, unless you have excess cards. You have to manually tap on the trashcan icon in the upper right to be taken to the hand reset phase and only then you can discard cards to draw as many. If you don't do that and just try to discard a card expecting the game will automagically understand what you are doing won't work. If you happen to discard a card that has a "discard this to do X" text, you'll just end up activating the card instead of resetting your hand. Or when you are dealt damage, in which case the game highlights all the cards in your hand because you have to discard them to damage, but you may also have some cards you can use to absorb damage, like shields and armors. But if you just tap those cards and drag them wherever the game hints you to without knowing what your doing, the card may then get banished because you are unknowingly activating its secondary effect instead of discarding it to damage or perhaps you are discarding an armor thinking it will get recharged after absorbing the damage, while you actually are discarding that to damage because the damage you are dealt is of a kind that armor can't absorb. The UI just visually hints at your available options but that doesn't mean you always have to use what the game is highlighting (unless it is a mandatory action, of course). This is why I strongly suggest (command ) you to read all the cards and read the rulebook for the card game (available on Paizo's website), because the UI adds another layer of needed understanding and without knowing exactly how the underlying game works, you will definitely fall into mistakes while playing.
If you're referring to the physical game rulebook, the section where it explains exploring clearly states you can further explore by discarding blessing and other cards that let you do that. There also a box near that rulebook section that talks about the strategy involved in deciding to discard blessings to explore or keep them to boost dice rolls. As I said in my previous post(s), it is a very complex game, you can't expect to learn all you need just from the app. The tutorial and the included rulebook give a good knowledge of the game basics, but you need to read all the cards and it surely is a good idea to read the full rulebook on Paizo website.
+1 on reading the rulebook, it was tremendously helpful. One thing I'd like people to confirm: it seems that I can only close a location in the check immediately after defeating a henchman/boss, or only after the deck runs out if I fail that check. Is that correct? Then, a separate question: sometimes I run into an event or enemy who forces me to face a henchman-kind of enemy unexpectedly - for instance, Skeleton Horde or something. This is not the henchman for the scenario, though each character at an open location is meant to encounter an Ancient Skeleton henchman. http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTAyNFg3Njg=/z/RvUAAOxyRhBS5odX/$_1.JPG The card that pops up - the Ancient Skeleton - clearly states that if I defeat him, I can then close the location where he came from, as I'm facing a henchman-type of enemy. However, the location close doesn't seem to trigger in these cases. http://paizo.com/image/content/Blog/Skeleton.jpg Is this intended? I thought the card text would always supercede everything else. Or is it a bug? Thanks!
Yes. Beating summoned villains or henchmen doesn't allow you to win the scenario or close the location. This is noted in the app rules, under "Summoning".
Part one is correct for the most part. You may only attempt to close the location immediately following the defeat of a Henchman OR if there are no cards left in the location deck. If you defeat the Villain, the location closes automatically but the Villain runs to another open location. Part two refers to a "Summoned" Monster. Summoned Monsters are NOT considered Henchman (despite what it says on their individual cards). It is intended that you are not allowed to attempt to close that location after defeating a Summoned Monster/Henchman.
Thanks both - that's good to know, and especially helpful about the villain remark. I had wondered why a location had become automatically closed without me having to go through the necessary check at one point, and I now recall that being the original location where the villain was. Cheers!
By far Iam no expert at games any game. But I think to many people are making this game harder than it needs to be it just a card game. Very well done at that. If one is confused the game lights up the only things one can do tap it and read. Yes in this game it helps to read. One has the enemy deck one has their deck play the cards read the cards to see what option you have, don't run out of cards in deck or you die same for enemy. Cards are basically health point. Use the cards to improve your odds with the dice. Discard cards that don't help your character, try to to get cards recharged meaning put back in your deck. Remember no cards in deck one dies same with enemy. Read the cards improve your odds don't run out of cards.
I just launched this game for the first time and I have a serious issue: When I click "play" it says I'm not online (i am). When I click on the store it asks me if I want to sign up. When I confirm, it says I'm not linked to my "social gaming network" (whatever that is. Game Center?) On the title screen it says "Link Social Gaming Network" with a green dot and a wifi symbol. Wel,, I've tapped all over that area and nothing happens. Am I missing something or am I bugged? If this is a Game Center issue it isn't specifically saying so, but my GC *is* broken.
Ok. So I just got to the PC so I do not have to write this whole thing on my IPad but to put it simple: This game is amazing! I did not understand most of it through the tutorial though so you definitly need to invest a bit of time into it, but once you do it is INSANE-ly good! The variet in gameplay is super nice and I did not even touch any of the other characters yet, the experience is smooth and well exectued and once you get to terms with the game-terms (hehe) you are set for a lot of fun! What really helped me getting started (like many recommended already), was this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdtw7dfmR7Y It plays almost exactly like this and it's a super fun experience! I definitly recommend anyone new to the series to give it a look so you understand what you are doing. I failed 4 times on the first after-tutorial-mission and after I watched the video I aced the whole first adventure (?). I immediatly bought the full package for 25 which I think is a steal for all the content you already get for free and all that is too come + all the characters... can't recommend this game enough and it may be one of the games that will stay on my IPAD for years to come. Only Hearthstone accomplished that up to this point. If you are on the fence just check it out, it's free. If you do not really understand what you are supposed to do watch the youtube video I linked and if you still have some issues ask on the forums here. I read all the pages leading up to my post here and they were really helpful. TA has a great community, loving being a part of it. Solid 5/5 will buy more expansions immediatly!
So you're saying there's nothing I can do and until Apple gets this fixed I'm SOL, huh? If I start this on my android phone will I be able to use the same account on my iPad later?
Is this a bug? In quest mode, upon successfully completing a scenario, I receive some random cards. But the card automatically moves up beyond the screen and the game hangs. Presumably, it is waiting for me to tap on the card to flip it over, but since I can't (beyond the ipad screen), the game doesn't progress. Reseted this several times. Can't seem to shake it. [edit: added photo. See the lighty halo at the top? That's where the card is]
I just tried a quest with just the paladin and it worked pretty well. Some checks are almost impossible to beat but I had more than enough time to clear out most locations and defeat the villan three times. A lot of fun. Seems to be a challenge
This is a known bug, and is slated to be fixed in an upcoming major patch. Some characters in story mode also run into the same issue in the victory screen.
Is it character dependent - meaning, is this a known issue for specific characters? i.e. if I don't play with affected characters, I'm sorted?
Good question. I'd like to know what triggers this bug too. (And if it is indeed character dependent, does the order/placement matter?. In my play, the issue only triggers on the 2nd and 3rd character (out of a group of 4)).
The exact extent of affected character combinations hasn't been noted, but Local Heroes is a known problem scenario. For example, if I play it solo with Lini, the victory screen will basically become unresponsive and require deleting that entire party instance, because it becomes impossible to finish the scenario and regain access to the other characters (you can't forfeit at that point). However, if I take Lini and somebody else through it, the scenario completes just fine. As for quest mode, that's even less figured-out.
Interesting. I've only been playing with the two default characters whose names elude me (red female rogue, blue cleric (?)), and I've passed that point in the adventure a while ago, so I should be good to go for the time being. Thanks!
