What exactly does that "idle" mean gameplay-wise? Am I progressing while being offline thus not playing? And if so, do I have to? Is that equivalent to timers from F2P games so I have to wait hours for something to build? Sorry for the confusion on my end. I don't think I've played this kind of genre before. From the trailer it looks quite intriguing and visually pleasing, so I wouldn't want to miss out on a great game. Can you guys shed some light on the matter for me? OddAlun Well-Known Member Dec 2, 2017 81 40 18 #9 OddAlun, Jun 25, 2022 Normally I don't go for idle games but I'm enjoying playing Pioneers with other games. Yes, when the games says it takes 5 mins to attack an Orc outpost it take 5 mins. I've seen no mechanism to speed things up, so I play Pioneers(build, explore, expand) play another game and return to Pioneers when it pops up a notification. Gnietschow likes this. So whenever you check in after some time your storages will be filled, battles will be finished and ships will have reached their destinations. It is in the design that the game is not playable for a long time at once, but is meant to be played over multiple small sessions alongside the day. Although the timers are slower than in other non-idle games, it is not anyway equal to F2P mechanics. It is a paid app and as this it is designed to be fun and nothing is prolonged to push you spending money. So there are no build timers, actions can be done immediately so you wait a bit and have a fun little session and after a while another one and so on. After some weeks you will be able to finish the game by building a palace. But that is not the end as you can then start a new round with choosing a custodian giving you a special ability for your next empires, e.g. making your ships travel twice as fast, giving you a bigger starting island or finishing battle much more quickly. It’s nice that production can progress while not playing, but I want things to be done shorter while I am controlling, like 20 times shorter. Gnietschow Member Jun 12, 2022 21 11 3 Male Indie Developer Berlin https://paragonpioneers.com/ #12 Gnietschow, Jun 27, 2022 There is no fast forward button. The game is as being an idle game designed to be slow and be played over a longer period of time If you want to be able to do more when active I would suggest to build bigger storage capacities and the fast ships. This may help a bit, but won't make it a game playable a long time at once. Jstorm Well-Known Member Feb 2, 2020 1,082 474 83 Male Employed Earth #13 Jstorm, Jun 27, 2022 Thanks for the response. So, what is the reason not to have a fast forward button? Is there a multiplayer mode or a leaderboard for people to compete? If not, I don’t understand why you are against implementing one. Gnietschow Member Jun 12, 2022 21 11 3 Male Indie Developer Berlin https://paragonpioneers.com/ #14 Gnietschow, Jun 27, 2022 My main reason is that I want to make sure that it is always a satisfying experience and therefore need to balance each feature I offer. I think for many players such a button would impact their experience negatively, so I won't add it directly. But I can imagine to implement it as a cheat code, which can be used by anyone who wants to OddAlun likes this. I like the game AS IS. I think I woul ask Apple for a refund if you were to implement a "fast forward" button. There's plenty to do once you have multiple ships, islands, etc. Question: What do '!' and '?' imply above the huts?? [may have missed that in the tutorial.] Gnietschow likes this. Gnietschow Member Jun 12, 2022 21 11 3 Male Indie Developer Berlin https://paragonpioneers.com/ #17 Gnietschow, Jun 27, 2022 No worries, I'm very happy about the current state of the game and will only implement bug fixes and slight QoL improvements A question mark above a building gives you a hint that this building is missing goods to work, e.g. if a saw mill has a question mark above it does not find any raw wood to work with. Either you need to review the amount of fields/trees around, look for a shortage of raw material or ensure that the building has a warehouse in its range so it can get goods from the island storage. An exclamation mark tells you that the buildings internal storage filled up. You'll need to build a warehouse nearby which collects the goods of that building. ste86uk Well-Known Member May 9, 2012 6,774 1,000 113 #18 ste86uk, Jun 27, 2022 So I love city/village building/management type games and of course love Townsmen and seen it compared to that. I like what I’ve heard so far but I’m just wondering as some of the images make it look like every inch of your screen is packed with buildings all jammed close together and looking like a big mess. Some I’ve seen quite open like a farmer type building looking surrounded by crops and a woodcutter by wood and not just buildings piled everywhere. How does it work exactly and which one of those is it? Or is it both? Starts off sparse but then if you want to progress you have to fill in as much as possible? Gnietschow Member Jun 12, 2022 21 11 3 Male Indie Developer Berlin https://paragonpioneers.com/ #19 Gnietschow, Jun 28, 2022 It is both. As space on your islands is always sparse it more efficient to use all free tiles available. On islands with crops there will be a lot of farms, if you raise cattle there will be a lot grassland filled by them. On more industrial islands or at the home of you residents there will be a lot of houses packed together making it look more chaotic. Of course you can conquer bigger island and don't build them full so they look prettier, but the game rewards more dense layouts. For example have a look at the island screenshots on the bottom https://paragonpioneers.com/. The first island is the main island with the inhabitants when you are close to the end choosing a custodian for the next round (as there is a palace). The second island is a typical farming island for cotton with some iron industry. The third island is a typical candle holder industry island, which need a lot of bee keepers, but also a bit copper to produce. All three are fully build and typical for the late phase in the game. ste86uk likes this. ste86uk Well-Known Member May 9, 2012 6,774 1,000 113 #20 ste86uk, Jun 28, 2022 @Gnietschow So it sounds like you reach a kind of endgame where you can build a palace and start a new game+ does that have any difference at all? Also just a side comment but the English for the AppStore page looks good but the English in the screenshots isn’t quite as good, were they done by different people? Gnietschow likes this.
