I couldn't help but laugh when saw this. You hit the nail right on the head. We started this game with the concept of "wouldn't it be cool if there was something like a mix of little big planet and paper Mario for iPhone" We certainly aren't shooting for a knockoff but, I'll gladly take the comparisons as a compliment.
Looks great. As already said, it reminds me of Little Big Planet mixed with Paper Mario along with a bit of New Super Mario Bros. I am looking forward to a gameplay video. Hopefully one showing an overworld similar to the Mario series.

Universal is definitely our plan. I agree about the iPad 2 also. We have been doing all the tests as a universal with full retina support. (that first image pasted over the iphone is actually just a home+power screen capture from an iphone4)
Update 4/18 Update 4/18- Gameplay: Portals - Since the game is 2.5d, you will be able to transport to different "depths" to find secrets. Your character transport to new entirely new hidden areas too. Portals are one way though so, you will have to be careful. Portals will be touch activated (see below) Thanks for looking!
This looks great. I love platformers and will keep on eye on this one. Will there be support for ios 3 devices?
