*Cough cough you know if you ever need testing I would be thrilled for a chance to contribute to this game
This game looks fantastic! Pardon me for asking, as this might have already been asked, but will this work on a 2nd gen?
As of now it does run on 2nd gen with ok framerate if we scale a few things back but, I really don't know how it's gonna turn out by the time it's released. If we keep 2nd gen support we do have to sacrifice a pretty sizable amount of visuals. There is a lot of depth and scrolling going. So, it's a tough call on rather to scale it back to support all devices OR, push it to the max so that it looks the best as it can.
I, for one, say go for it. Max the game out. There are some games I have on my ipad that I cannot play on my ipod touch - but they are better for it. i wouldn't want those games to be a lesser experience so I could play on both devices. Ones that csn do both are a bonus, for sure - but I like the experience the ipad gives for those others. The technology keeps changing; you can't just keep reducing everything to the lowest common denominator (much as we might like to at times) - eventually, it might be time to upgrade. If not, anyone want to buy my old 486? It still kicks... Or maybe that's me kicking it...
How about releasing two versions - a scaled back one for older devices, and a "pushed to the max" version for newer ones?
I would have to agree with kaboom. 2 versions seems like a good choice. Theres a lot of 2nd gen users out there & lots of sales to be made.
I'd say push. Either you let one generation more play the game or you let all other generations enjoy the game more.
Definitely push. Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing tried to be universal and the courses got nerfed very badly.
make your product the best it can, it will set it apart and sell better. drop support for 2nd gen, new iphones will be out soon enough, the 4's will drop in price more. eventually older gens will upgrade. it's inevitable that they will for one reason or another.
