update - snow zone and snow monster Update 6/14 - baddies - What's a platformer without a snow zone? This little guy is from one of the snow levels. He uses his spear to jab at you so, you have to be careful when you can jump on him. And you can pretty much count on a giant-abominable-snow-beast-yeti-boss battle!
I can't Wait for this game, I have been following this since the beggining, when the graphics weren't even the same! I can't wait!!
You know it's going to be quality once Crescent Moon becomes involved. However, you also know that it will have a substanial development cycle with Crescent Moon involved. In other words, the game will be good, but Gods knows how long we will have to wait to play it. It might be a very long time before we have this in our hands.
Com'on! Stop teasing and give us the gorram game right now or you are building hype to the Aralon level!
We haven't ran into anything that would throw us behind schedule and, as the post above me mentioned we are shooting for end of summer / early fall. We are already 11 months into development so there is a lot done. We are going over every little detail to make the game play the best as it can be so hopefully it's worth the wait. We have a really sweet control setup (not the one in the video) that is quite unique. I think this will make platforming on iOS so much nicer and easier. Plus it isn't gimmicky or anything like that!
it was more like a right left dpad, but now we are trying a semi swipe move which seems to give better control.
ah ok cool.. I guess... but can you be more speficik? I don't see how a swipe move gives more control over the character. Do you swipe on the place where the left/right buttons were? or do you swipe over the characer to control it to the right or left? chop chop caveman pops in my mind btw. are the controls similair?
you move your thumb on the screen anywhere, basically how much you want to move the guy. so in this option there is no visible dpad.
Ah yes, the good ol "floating joystick" control works always. Good choice! But I wouldn't recall that a 'unique' control setup since it's already been done by many many games on the iOS. I believe x2 Games with X2 Football was the first developer that introduced this control setup to the iOS gaming world so all the credits goes to X2 Games credit where credit is due! It means that everytime you press (somewhere) on the screen (I suppose on the left side of the screen?) a new oriëntation point will be calculated and the player will move to the direction based on how far you swipe to left or right from that specifik oriëntation point. Hence the term "Floating Joystick" Not sure if a platformer did this controlsetup before but it's certainly not new! It doesn't have to be though. It's a proven method for a more accurate control.
Yeah, I'm not sure who gets the credit for the floating joystick. Certainly not us. but, I am a huge fan of them. However we aren't using one for Paper Monsters. It's more of a variation on native iOS swipe with a realtime origin threshold. If that even makes sense! lol I think it's pretty unique.
