It's not the first sound game ever, but it's the most ambitious (by a mile) and the first to use real-time binaural audio (aka 3D sound) to work. It is really, really hard to describe what the game is like without playing it. It's impossible to get a sense from listening to third parties playing, because of various psychological factors -- only if you DO something and sound changes resultantly, does it makes sense.
