That is the age old question on how to properly balance the market. Regulation is an interesting and dangerous path.

I still cringe at the thought of when I bought Cro-Mag Rally for $9.99

    Interesting clip though

No, I think top 100 is fine, but there should be different filters. The problem is that you can be a well reviewed app with a decent number of reviews, but still have no chance because the top 100 is based on sales only. If you wanted to better balance the app store, I'd do the following:

    - Prevent updates from pushing apps to the 'new' list
    - Allow filters for top 100 list
    - Top 100 by rating
    - New/rating rank view, which lists top 100 ratings from the newest 1000 apps, or something of that sort

The idea of the app store's listing system should be to get apps you might like in front of you, not simply to reward those that are selling well with more sales. We've all seen some really, really bad apps sell a ton of units; and for every one of those there's 10 good apps wallowing. I find that unfortunate, because instead of focusing on how to make better apps, developers have to spend most of their time focusing on how to get noticed.

Thanks for sharing the video. I've shared it with several of my friends and colleagues as well.

Looks like getting into the top 100 is a lot harder now. Back in early December, it only took a bit more than 300 copies/day to scrape the bottom of that list.

Being in the top100 is only a dream for the vast majority of the developers.. The low end is much closer to zero.. nothing..

  13. I'll chime in with my data:

    [app]Upsi Runner[/app] is currently selling an average of 0 - 1 copies a day.
[app]Upsi Looper[/app] usually sells 0 copies a day. Yesterday the lite version had 8 downloads.
[app]GumDrops[/app] is selling about 2 - 3 copies a day, and the lite version gets about 50 downloads a day (37 from the USA).

At this stage I have had games on the iTunes store for 4 months, and have yet to see a cheque from Apple.

Shen, half of your screenshots for Upsi Runner are in wrong direction. Maybe changing them to lanscape will help something.

    DrummerB:

Thanks for the heads up, I've fixed them up. I guess iTunes didn't like the iPhoto rotated jpgs or something.
